- Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most photographed and picturesque castles in the whole of the world. Each year, hundreds of thousands of visitors travel miles to go and visit the beautiful area, and the fortification that is surrounded by three different lochs that lead to the sea. The surrounding scenery of Eilean Donan makes it the perfect place to create a castle, as does the fact initially a castle may have been built there to protect the Scottish from the Vikings. As the lochs next to it lead to the sea, it would have been perfect for Vikings to raid the castle.
Eilean Donan is a castle that is steeped in Scottish history and clan history, and it's been the site of mass executions, battles, sieges and so much more. It was taken a number of times by warring factions, and even by the Spanish during the Jacobite Rebellion who were then ousted by the English. The castle was eventually destroyed before it was rebuilt in the 1900s in beautiful and spectacular fashion. Today it is one of the best castles in the world, and one of the most spectacular.

The narrator states at 1 min 14 seconds that the castle guards lochs that lead to the North Sea. This is incorrect. The castle
is on the west coast of Scotland and the loch lead out to the North Atlantic
It is beautiful and it's location stunning, but it has nothing on Mont Orgueil Castle down here in Jersey, lol

My clan castle! I mean to visit one day.
It was on my bucket list. At 78 I finally made it in May of this year. My Granddaughter said to the ticket agent "my grandpa's a MacRae" and the woman said oh, welcome home! It brought tears to my eyes. You need to make it happen, can't describe the feeling.

Externally very beautiful. The interior is a far more modern feel, which drops it down the list for my favourite UK castle.

Nothing of this castle is original , was destroyed in 1700s , and the one we see today was rebuitin the early 1900s
