Doesn’t have anywhere near the spankyness of a Danelectro though. The headstock reminded me of a Gibson Melody Maker and the bodyshape reminds me of the Gibson Nighthawk (a little) and the overall appearance reminded me of the L6 or the Gibson Marauder. I think the best conclusion I would make is that this is the sum of a large number of failed and ugly Gibson models with a slight hint of Danelectro, but failed. 😅 Sorry, that’s what I think.
Completely agree. I love the plain Swamp Ash body on display in this video with the wooden knobs. Really cool. The sunburst model on the Andertons website looks tasty too.
I bought a sire h7 earlier this year. Unbelievable guitars. It almost does a disservice to add "for the money" as they are just so good to play out the box.
@@Olegstuff21986 Their other guitars are nice but they mostly fall under the category of well built, better-value versions of more well known guitars - strats, teles, les pauls, 335s, etc. That L5 is quirky and unique.
Man, it never ceases to amaze me how well you two complement each other’s playing styles. I can’t play anything you guys show(being a lefty) but I don’t care, you two are very entertaining.
Just as an FYI, the hollow-body Gibson with the gold finish that Bryan Adams plays is called the ES-295 - it was also the guitar used by Scotty Moore on Elvis Presley's "That's Alright Mama" - but the studio recording of the "Run to You" riff was actually played on a Telecaster. 😛
I've had the H7T for a few weeks now. The Sire trem system is a real winner. Instead of the typical Bigsby pins, they have a string-through, solid brass block. Restringing is a breeze. As mentioned, not a light guitar, and the neck is of the "baseball bat" variety. For me, it's perfect. For smaller players, maybe not so much.
I agree . I would have bought a Nighthawk in the early '90's but apprentice wages couldn't afford it . Wouldn't mind that L5 Pete played . Nice wood grain on the body . Love my Les Pauls , Strats , Teles , etc but I have yearned for something different for many a year . An L5 is obviously a hybrid of great guitars that have never been combined . Nighthawk body in Swamp Ash , 24.75" scale (unlike the Nighthawk's 25.5) , and 3 lipsticks that sound like they should , given the shape of the headstock (Danelectro anybody?) . Bit of a mongrel , like me . Gotta get one . Cheers from Australia 👍
The L5 model with the lipstick pickups is quite reminiscent of the St. Blues Bluesmaster guitar. I have an H7 Cherry Sunburst. It's my favorite guitar to practice on unplugged. Great resonance and note definition, a real joy to practice on. It's about 9 lbs, a little hard on the shoulder and back though.
The origin of the term "lipstick pickup" is pretty cool. Danelectro was making their own pickups and guitars, and couldn't find an affordable pickup cover, so they actually purchased lipstick tubes from a nearby lipstick/makeup plant and used them as pickup covers...and a star was born.
Not in the market for any of these models myself but I will say that Sire do make really great instruments. I have a T7 which I love and I just bought my 16 year old son an S7 (lefty) from Andertons and he's happy as a pig in you know what. Pleased to report the S7 came very well set up and both this and the T7 look, feel and sound like something far more expensive than they are - truly excellent value guitars, well worth the price of admission.
The first part of the outro is where the Lipstick shines Pete. The L3 buckers would help the 2 hollow bodies unless they sound spicier because of not being potted as well.
These look awesome. I bought an H7 from you guys last year and its probably the best guitar I've ever owned. Play it every weekend on stage and its just great. I think the jazz style one will be my next purchase!
Been trying to find something that reminds me of an old Antoria I had when I was 16 in 1960, every body had them including Hank B. Etc. so I think the the L5 is the one ! Thanks I have a Sire acoustic so I am a fan…..
The L3 has 3 lipstick tube PU'S which exactly like both the Danelectro and are adjusted thru the back. In short you get a Dano that is actually using real wood not a plywood frame with a Masonite (hardboard) top and back. It will sustain better than a Dano but it is indeed a very Dano otherwise.
The L5 is like an upscale, boutique-y take on a Danelectro 56 U3. I appreciate the modern bridge and the left-field inspiration, but it's just not quite the same.
I prefer the junior type guitar, but I would absolutely want to spend just a little more and buy a Gretsch G5210 P90 Electromatic Jet (look it up if you don’t know which guitar I mean).* The advantages of the Gretsch are the fact that it doesn’t need to look like something it isn’t, because it’s a Gretsch. It’s its own unique shape. You get two P90’s instead of one, they have some beautiful colour options, the bridge is much better and if you like, there are versions with Bigsbys as well (more expensive though). * This is not aimed towards the young guitar player that had to save up all of his/her money for a whole year.
Picked up an L3 P90 in TV Yellow from your last week. Nice budget guitar that plays well out of the box. Probably better than the Epi Jr equivalent although the paint job is a bit streaky. Only shame is that Sire is sticking lefties with an 80 quid premium for the same guitar!
As others have said the L5 definitely has a Dano vibe. My only criticism would be that it sounds like the pickups are wired in parallel. Series wiring would be better in my opinion.
No offense to Lee but I really wanted to hear some more nuanced playing from Pete on that semi-hollow filtertron guitar. You guys really need to compare that to a similarly priced Gretsch because it seems like a potential Gretsch killer.
I’m shocked you guys missed the Danelectro vibe with the L5.
I agree. It’s definitely inspired by Danelectro with regard to the body shape, lipstick tube pickups, and scale length.
Came here to say this, was practically shouting it at my screen lol great vid
Doesn’t have anywhere near the spankyness of a Danelectro though. The headstock reminded me of a Gibson Melody Maker and the bodyshape reminds me of the Gibson Nighthawk (a little) and the overall appearance reminded me of the L6 or the Gibson Marauder.

@@mariodriessen9740 Exactly what I thought about the Melodymaker headstock and Nighthawk/Blueshawk body.
@@mariodriessen9740 I guess you missed the VIBE comment, I didn’t say carbon copy.
Missed the boat on the L5. The most interesting of the bunch. Great pickups!
Completely agree. I love the plain Swamp Ash body on display in this video with the wooden knobs. Really cool. The sunburst model on the Andertons website looks tasty too.
Loved the L5 school woodwork project, cool 😊
haahahaha
I bought a sire h7 earlier this year. Unbelievable guitars. It almost does a disservice to add "for the money" as they are just so good to play out the box.
I f'ckn love Sire instruments.
Affordable, high quality, classic looking guitars and basses. You can't go wrong with them.
Wish the bass headstocks weren't so hideous.
I bought a sire s7. Nut was cut too low and all frets above 15 would buzz.
That L5 is the first Sire I've seen that I would actually consider buying. Very interesting.
Why just that one? Their guitars are all-around very good.
@@Olegstuff21986 Their other guitars are nice but they mostly fall under the category of well built, better-value versions of more well known guitars - strats, teles, les pauls, 335s, etc. That L5 is quirky and unique.

Sire makes a lot of lefty guitar models, check their website.
These all look and sound KILLER! Sire continues to nail it!
Really loved Lee's playing in this intro.
Lmfao
???
I got the gold top L3 p90. Fantastic guitar!
Love all of these. That L5 looks super comfy to play.
Been waiting the longest time for this video lol. It's about time guys.

Oh heck yeah. A LP Junior competitor.

Love how fast Pete was to play Jazztallica! 🤘🧐🤘
he could form a band with Andy Rehfeldt 😅
The Jazztallica was epic!!!!!!!
loved the sound of that jazz box, the f one, mega bad ass, loved the vid boys.
Me too
@@douglaspate9314 cheers sir.
The juniors are amazing, and the fully hollow fatty was nice too
That L5 has a shape like the old Nighthawks.

Good Looking instruments from Sire - I especially like the Blond with 3 singles and the gold with a single P90, anyone else feel these stand out?
I think I would like this L5 guitar very much.

Lipsticks turned me on to the beauty of low output pickups in general. Love the clarity and chime.

The L5 reminds me of the Gibson Nighthawk ( single cut, smaller than a Les Paul, 3 pick-up )
Yep, that’s what it reminded me of.
I could watch the two of you playing weird guitars and talking about them all day. Thanks, fellas.
Gawd, Pete made Master sounding jazzy with such a breeze!
The first part of the outro is where the Lipstick shines Pete. The L3 buckers would help the 2 hollow bodies unless they sound spicier because of not being potted as well.

The captain singing like Tennille on that guitar wow
I think I'm right in saying this is the only demo of these on the whole of the internet
Enjoyed the opening jam, very nice and something a bit different. Great guitars, even bettter banter.
Been waiting for the single P90 demo a while Pete! Good work
Probably my favourite intro jam yet. Niiice!

Hank B. Etc. so I think the the L5 is the one ! Thanks I have a Sire acoustic so I am a fan…..
Sire L5 is amazing.
Flashback styles with modern equipped components..nice.
I’d love to see a dual p90 in the L3 range come along down the line. Sure are easily the best bang for your buck out there in my view ❤
Exactly Paul 👍 I was going to say the exact same thing.
No matter what you get, you should definitely get you a Dane to play on it.
"Do you know any green day?"
...
"No." lol. that was epic.
That L5 is awesome.
That L5 sounds like a warmer version of my Danelectro '57.
Always a pleasure. 😁😁😎
Ok one more. I been playing punk and metal with a Gretsch hollowbody for 30 years. Works great.
Awsome! It's like a 335-Gretsch-Deusenburg-Danelectro mash-up, in a very good way
The L5 has a very similar shape to the Gibson nighthawk models
That L5 is sick. Massive lack of single coil LP shaped guitars out there.
LB plays Turner Guitars! Rick is a master builder!!!!
i think the obvious comparison that they missed with the L5 is the old 3 pickup Danelectros from the late 50's
I may have to get myself a sunburst L5.
Please bring back Justin, the Captain wants a refresh lesson 🥰😇😎👍🏻
Lee was on fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥 on that intro there
I really want the single P90 guitar!
I really want it too. In fact, I might be getting it. Sounds too sick.
I need a full jazz metallica album from Pete now
F should stand for feedback on the hollow-body. Seriously, though, they all look and sound great! 😎
Can't wait for the G5a review.
Pickups on the L5 are mounted just like a Danelectros!!
Love Mr Pete
i think that the whole vibe about Lipstick Tube pickups is that they have lower output and somehow more dynamic response.
Looks like a built in shop class guitar
I preordered a L5 many months ago and it feels like it's been forever waiting for it to arrive. Maybe, this means mine will arrive soonish.
The lipstick /p/up looks interesting
L-5 for the win…. Cheap nasty tones… loving that.
That black one was Cold Stone
The L3 in the color that Pete is playing has some Jonny 2 bags vibes to it
The L5 is like an upscale, boutique-y take on a Danelectro 56 U3. I appreciate the modern bridge and the left-field inspiration, but it's just not quite the same.
L5 reminds me of the Nighthawk, but maybe with a better body design? I got some SRV vibes for just a second off the neck pickup.
The Sire J3 is a pretty cool jazzmsster copy, too.
Nice and yeah you have set my addiction off for a single P90 les paul shaped device haha

Lee, your playing seems to improve on great playing every episode. Cheers!
The L5 pickup screws on the back and lipstick style are Danelectro design I think?
ooooh L3 p90...... yes please !
I rarely get blown away by the tone of a guitar in a demo like this, but the first lp that the Captain played did something to my pants
It would have been great to hear that lipstick pickup guitar with the tone control turned lower to hear if the sound would be thicker.
The L5 looks like a Gibson Nighthawk body, but with a '70s maple neck and fretboard, and Danoelectro pickups.
And the Danes going insane
Oh man look at that Redbone one dang Dane
2:15 the pixel tracking didn't work too well this time haha
Ref the L5 - go look at a Danelectro U3. Maybe Sire need some Dano inspiration for the colour schemes for this model. Silver sparkle anyone?
And a trem would be nice!
Oh my! That Sire with the lipsticks. Anyone want to buy my Tele Player plus to fund my next purchase?
As others have said the L5 definitely has a Dano vibe. My only criticism would be that it sounds like the pickups are wired in parallel. Series wiring would be better in my opinion.
Lee's face when Pete starts effortlessly knocking out trad jazz was an absolute picture 😂
Vintage love ❤
Points to Mr Honor for quoting "Good Omens " by Terry Pratchett and Neill Gaiman...
BIG thank you to Sire for thinking about us lefties
I thought the same about the h7t... somehow doesn't sound very filtertrony
At 27:00, you're thinking of the ES-295
the L5 looks like a winner! weight?
L5 has a kind of Gibson Nighthawk look

Nod to Pete for the 'Run to You" lick!
Can we get the backing track pls ?
Been waiting for this one a while. Trying to make the decision between one of these, L3's, or the Epi Jr or a Squier CV Esquire.....
Does Anderton's not sell Danelectros?
Sorry if I didn't get it from the video, but does the red l3 have a satin neck?
Lol, Pete's jazzy Metallica is killing me.
The L5 looks similar to some Valley Arts guitars.
