The thing I love the most about this series is that Kvothe refuses to spoil any big secrets about his own story. Throughout the books, he mentions a lot of things that were big secrets to him at the time, like when he comes across the doors of stone in the arcanum, but he doesn’t say what the answer is until he gets to the point in the story he figures it out. He is not above spoiling things that he deems are obvious, like when he mentions that Jakis tried to kill him multiple times and the first time wasn’t even for a few more chapters and the second one wasn’t until the second book, but he wants the story of his life to be told as if it were an actual story. This shows when, at 2 different points in the story, he doesn’t refer to Dena by name, despite the fact that he himself recognized her at that moment in time for the simple fact that it reads better. He’s also not above skipping parts of his life that he feels don’t need to be explained anymore than just being mentioned in passing, like him actually traveling to Vintus and not expanding at all on the pirate attack and getting shipwrecked or his trial which he doesn’t expand on because it’s already so heavily documented and known to the public
Unfortunately, this is not entirely true. Kvothe spoils that the chandrian are still alive by talking about them in the present tense, confirming that he never killed them as he intended
I've long been of the opinion that Kvothe knows good and well about his lackless lineage, and just isn't going to reveal that to chronicler / the reader until the point where Kvothe finds out in the story. After all, he calls specific attention to the lackless rhyme not once, but twice, and he's careful to show his mother's reaction to it the first time, and he calls attention to his father's song about her, and his mother's reaction to that. Given the probably dozens of songs his father made up, and the probably hundreds of songs he has in his repertoire, this much attention on the subject has to be intentional. My personal headcannon is that this is because he doesn't find out until after Baron Jakis kills his way to the throne, and Baron Jakis finds out that Kvothe is alive and has a better claim to the throne, and the two fight. Also, I hate to be the one to say this, but even given that his mother was Natilia Lackless (and I do think that's a given), his last name wouldn't be Lackless because A) she changed her name, and B) she was the wrong gender parent
Kvothe is a good storyteller. He said at some point that all parts of the story are important even if they might not seem like it. So he definitely knows but the story wouldn't be a good story if he gave it away beforehand.
Well, his parents weren't married so his last name could be Lackless. And yes, Natalia was changed her name but it doesn't matter. It's about the blood line and true heritage. Actually the only obstacle is even if he'll eventually finds out, how could he prove that to the others? He can't be a Lackless if no one believes that. So it can't affect the story. I love it when you add new fandoms to your channel, first Avatar The Last Airbender last year and now the Kingkiller Chronicle cannot wait to see what is next.
As always happens in a book such as this, my own pronunciations of various names differs from those I hear others using. Such is the burden of those of us who choose to join the fandom of books filled with those terms without obvious pronunciations.
One note, the Cthaeh doesn't always speak the truth, It can see all permutations of the future and tells you exactly what you need to hear to make the most destructive and chaotic path move forward. So the Cthaeh could lie to you by telling you something that will send you down a more destructive path. Personally this is one of my favorite story devices of all time because it is so open ended.
@@Poisindart2000 That isnt how I have understood it, Bast never mentions anything about truth when he is speaking of the Cthaeh. He just mentions that all choices a person makes will be catastrophic. The way I read it, it is implied that the Cthaeh basically weaves a story of truth and misinformation that will send the listener down the worst possible path. Nothing needs to directly be a lie, but much of it is extremely selective as to envoke the worst possible outcome.
OMGGG SO EXCITED FOR THESE THEORIES! I have reread these books for years and I am so happy you guys found them and enjoy then as much as I do! Just a few things that might help you guys though: 1) Listening to Pat say Kvothe, I hear him lean into the V a lot more, rather than changing it into a W 2) Gillers are simply full arcanists who have chosen to stay and work at the university rather than go out into the world. The Edema Ruh that was working for the archives was an acquisitions scriv, not a giller (actually he might have been one of Lauren's gillers as well, but the two terms are in no way synonymous). You mixed up the two terms in the livestream a couple of days ago and my ocd is requiring me to correct you on it (SORRY!!) Anyways, love the video guys!
In my opinion, it's entirely up to the reader. Authors have a say in what goes into a book, but not on what a reader takes away from that work. The work in rights might belong to Pat, but in reality, the world he's created is different to each reader.

What timing! I'm rereading (audiobook) them right now and just realized it myself a week ago, with a lot of the same hints you mentioned coming together. Now, the three girls are teenagers, orphans living in Faerie Land with their Fae father. @@sophieb729 They even call him. Kvothe Arlidenson when he goes on the horns
@@jphhilpott26
Yeah, cause that's how you adress ppl with no real blood line, by their father's name.
In some religiouns you still get addressed as "son of".
Also, pretty sure if a lower blood line gets with a higher one, the son is of the higher blood line, depends on politics though of course.
That's IF Arlifen is his father.
@@randombailey1166 his mom was a nice lady who loved her husband😱
Thank you for telling us to read the books. They are absolutely worth it and are awesome! So many hidden details allowing for massive amounts of speculation.
I love it when you add new fandoms to your channel, first Avatar The Last Airbender last year and now the Kingkiller Chronicle cannot wait to see what is next.
Can't wait till SCB does a video on the Cosmere universe
Me too, I think Cosmere will beat Cosmere state in the big game
They’ve broken free from the HP craze and are expanding into other series.
dont mind me, im just writing this reply in the hope that they will see this comment
Yes please!!!!!
We need it
As always happens in a book such as this, my own pronunciations of various names differs from those I hear others using.
I belive it does say the most destructive path but Bast informs kvothe that it does not lie.
As soon as I read that Lady Lackless’ sister ran off with a trouper, I assumed it was Kvothe’s mother. I cannot wait for the next book
My first read, I thought it was Denna
Have I ever read this book? No.
Will I still watch this video? *Yes.*
NICE!
Best save it for later though, really recomended

I’m currently reading ‘the wise mans fear’ and I’m beyond excited for these videos! 😍
OMGGG SO EXCITED FOR THESE THEORIES!
I have reread these books for years and I am so happy you guys found them and enjoy then as much as I do!
Just a few things that might help you guys though:
1) Listening to Pat say Kvothe, I hear him lean into the V a lot more, rather than changing it into a W
2) Gillers are simply full arcanists who have chosen to stay and work at the university rather than go out into the world. The Edema Ruh that was working for the archives was an acquisitions scriv, not a giller (actually he might have been one of Lauren's gillers as well, but the two terms are in no way synonymous). You mixed up the two terms in the livestream a couple of days ago and my ocd is requiring me to correct you on it (SORRY!!)
Anyways, love the video guys!
I prefer the V definitely. It’s a lot more like how I pronounce it.
In my opinion, it's entirely up to the reader. Authors have a say in what goes into a book, but not on what a reader takes away from that work. The work in rights might belong to Pat, but in reality, the world he's created is different to each reader.
@@oliedmis97 True, but then again, wouldn't it really bug you if Jay and Ben pronounced Hermione as "hermy-own?" It certainly would bug me😂 I mean to each their own, and I'm not requiring Jay and Ben to say it a certain way, I just think it's important to let content creators know my preferences as a consumer of their content.
I think the pronunciation confusion comes from the fact that very early on in the book, he says it's pronounced like "quoth." I think most of us assumed, "yeah, quoth with a v thrown in, kvv-oh-thh," but I can get why someone would misinterpret that.
@@ChroniclerEons I assumed the same thing as well. I mean the first time they talked abt it on the channel he brought up that very line when he was talking about Kvothe's name.
I’ve been waiting for this all day
GUYS!!!! I'm so excited to watch this right now. That is all...thought you ought to know. *passes out in the great hall*
Alright! You got me! I was a lit major and love going through books like this. It is my passion in life. I just hate starting any series that hasn't been finished because if certain fantasy writers who shall remain nameless.
Can you do collabs with other you tubers who talk about KKC? Captured in words? Strictly fantasy??? Omg Im so excited
Heres my guess for the end of the series: He kills that pirate guy you mentioned after he wrongly assumes the throne after killing the other heirs. Kvothe is the rightful heir, hence kingkiller but twist Kvothe is the actual rightful king.
Took me about 2 months to finally finish both books.. and my literal motivation to finish was so that I could finally dive into the conversation and theories with you guys :D
This video absolutely blew my mind.
Same I just now finished 😅
Yes! Super hyped for NOTW theories!
I love this books!! I came up with the same theory but I thought of lady Lackless in the song being his aunt not his mother.
I read this book just for this, and I loved every bit
This is my favorite series. I'm so glad y'all are doing theories on it!!
Honestly throughout whole book I was like: You keep talking about how poor you are and yet YOU SPEND Like Scrooge Mcduck! STOP, THINK and SAVE!
Also I thought he was a Lackless as well when I heard about Maylowen (however you spell it) the book.
Seriously, THANK YOU for putting me on this series, the read was fantastic!!!
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE BESTIES
Halfway through the first book, and honestly loving it! Thank you for talking about it so much that I started reading/listening.
Kvothe is to clever/smart not to have put that together. I think he just wants to keep his family name a secret so none can make him king.
I cannot believe I didn't put this together
The university : Hogwarts with student loan
So I listened to all 70 ish hours of the over the last few weeks. Only started it because I watched the video where this series was mentioned...I can't even express with how impressed I was! But I love most everything yall ever talk about. So not surprised it was a good listen.
AHHHHHHH SO EXCITED FOR KKC STUFF!!!
Me too. Its probably my favorite fantasy book series. Im glad to get some more theories about it.
@@the_hubbiesthub5664 definitely interested in their perspective on the books. This video while enjoyable was definitely an introductory theory. Definitely good for whetting people's appetites to dig deeper into the books but as far as theories this one is all but cannon.
What timing! I'm rereading (audiobook) them right now and just realized it myself a week ago, with a lot of the same hints you mentioned coming together. I also think I remember Kvothe saying that he had forgotten his mother's face, maybe around the end of Tarbean, so it made even more sense when he recognized Lady Lackless but couldn't place from where.
Kvothe’s money habits gives me anxiety. Sometimes I have to stop listening to the book at those parts because I start to get heart palpitations.
I absolutely agree!! My best friend and I talk about this series constantly, and a couple years ago we talked about this VERY thing!!! Love it!
Grrrr. I am so happy this makes my day
enjoy!
@@SuperCarlinBrothers thanks love you guys
There's Perry!
@@dwaynethebachjohnson6242 grrrrr😂
The amount of times you connected the dots and blew my mind was unkind, sir. So glad you guys started talking about this series, thank you!!
Wow she is so clearly kvoths mom. How did I not see this? All the clues went right over my head
You're not alone. Now I need to re-read it again.
Wow! I knew he was a Lackless but never considered that it puts him in front of Ambrose for the throne!
Am I only halfway through the first book? Yes
Will I watch this video to the end? Also yes
You blew my mind as always....The theories you come up with are awesome...please don't stop making these..
It makes me uncomfortable when he refers to the scent of the candles as "flavors"
This has been my head cannon since my first read through! I love how well you put it together and Ben's delivery is amazing!
Lackless?

Edit: yep... called it :v
You know, I think you both would like to read The Folk of the Air. It's a trilogy and the first book is The Cruel Prince.
Vivienne, Jude and Taryn were three girls living happily with their human parents when their mother's ex-husband and Vivi's biological father, a Fae, comes in wanting revenge. Now, the three girls are teenagers, orphans living in Faerie Land with their Fae father. And Jude specifically must fight and learn to be strong enough to earn the Folk's respect, more specifically the royal family and a certain very cruel, very attractive prince.
I’m very excited because you guys branching out like this gives me hope that someday there will be Cosmere content. Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author hands down
Read KKC over the last month and just started Mistborn today. Looking forward to a long and fun adventure!
@@HowiMetKyle Mistborn is great! My personal favorite of Sanderson is his Stormlight Archive series
I am actually suprised if anyone ever not catch this. I mean like they said it's in there in the books almost poking our eyes for us to see. But i guess some people won't read between the lines and just get the main story told. Btw great books and great videos SCB keep 'em coming since the wait for the 3rd book is real.
Most play on words get lost in translation, but even so it was possible to link the story pieces together. But the richness in foreshadowed details is something else
Man I'm really glad y'all are doing this series, I've seen so little content about this series on here and I'm glad it's getting more mainstream recognition
This is my favorite book series ever. I've read them 4 times. And listen to them at least 15 times in the past 8 years. Also my favorite book is The slow regard of Silent things!!!! I'm so glad and looking forward to you guys exploring this amazing world!
Small correction around 4:15, “Ademre” is where the Adem live ... Really happy to be watching a video about the series I’ve loved for many years!
Just started reading the series (about 100 pages in right now) and I’m really enjoying it!
Please make more Name of the wind content! I want to know your take on Jax, the luckless box (maybe containing the name of the moon?) The Ctheh, Halliax, the angels, and the connections between the wandering Edema Ruh, the former wanderers (the Adem) and the displaced peoples from the lost cities. Please, make more!
Okay, I know this video isn't doing super well with the views, but *please* don't let that discourage you from making more. I love this series, and I'm always so excited when you guys talk about it on the Pop.
Thank you soo much for this, was waiting for it the whole month 😍
That is the beauty of this book, all of the theories exist because we have all this information perfectly laid out across the pages, it's really an amazing work of art.
You added so much information to this theory I have been brewing a little after the second book came out! The only additional thing I can add to yours is that when he cleans himself after the streets of Tarbean he thinks he looks like a young noble.
Just finished the book club audio and I am so excited you guys are talking about it. I read this book a few years ago. Reread it when you got into it and can't wait to see and hear more.
I am so excited about these videos!!! There are so many details in these books and so many secrets to speculate on
Yes!! I’m so glad someone is around to talk this great stuff! I had the same thought (that Kvothe’s mother was the sister that ran away with a Ruh) but that poem?!! I had NOT seen that and it is RIGHT. THERE! You guys are amazing!!
I think you might enjoy the song “Edema Ruh” by Nightwish. Since he’s part of that group
I step back from watching this channel for a bit and suddenly your talking about another of my favourite books
I started reading this because of you guys! LOVED it and now I am loving these videos, well done!
I love these books so much! So happy your finally making vids about them!
I’m so excited that you guys are making theories on The King Killer Chronicle series!!! I love these!
I have been anxiously waiting for Name of the Windsday and I'm so happy it's finally here!! Loved the video, you can tell Ben was super excited as well, and I can't wait for more!!
The way you're talking about this, and all the foreshadowing just makes me think that you two have to read Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere and Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. You'd love those series, especially the former with all the theorizing potential there still is (since the second is finished, though we still have some questions). They're both right up your alley, and seeing you enjoying NOTW just confirms that for me.
Wouldn't it be brilliant if Ben and J did the audiobook for The Name Of The Wind?
I started Name of the Wind this week, and when I'm done I will come right back here! Super excited
I wrote a load of theory ideas on post it notes and I think this one is the only one I seemed to get right! Haha! I’m so glad these books are getting the love they deserve.
Great video.
I read both books like 5 or 6 years ago and really loved them. Not sure I have faith in Rothfuss to finish but will love to keep watching your theories.
Unbelievably excited about y’all covering Name of the Wind
yeeeees I am so glad they have taken in this series for exploring its lore. Keep us invested in the series while we continue to wait for the next book... Its been a long wait already but this should help the series gain even more recognition before the author finally puts out the treasure we've been pining over
Love this theory. Late to the party but was waiting to watch these till I finished the books. Couldn't agree with this theory more as it so lined up!! Great job showcasing all the points together!
Such good stuff! Love this book series. Love that y'all are making videos about it.
Yes! This is something i was thinking would be the case for a long time but when you put all the evidence next to eachother it seems so clear
I have finally finished the king killer chronicles and I'm so happy I can finally understand these videos! MAKE MORE KING KILLER CHRONICLE THERORIES PLEASE!
I did think that while listening but love all the small details! Also hadn’t considered the pirate isles and lost at sea stuff. Really cool video
100%, we made that connection right away♥️♥️
i am now regretting not having read wise man's fear yet, but i'm also busy with my mistborn reread
Its way better than mistborn
Dang...i knew all about the Lackless bloodline but the song "Tally" was the first I'd heard or thought of that. Well done!
I’m really glad to see SuperCarlinBrothers start theories on a new series. Been watching your videos for years. But I was wondering if you guys have ever read the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. That book series seems right up your lane. People have been giving theories about that series for two decades now and it is not done yet. If you haven’t given it a look I think you will love it. Either way keep up the great work.
I just finally finished the Books, so i can watch these videos finally. Holy moly how could i miss this, after i heard it, it seems so obvious. Thanks for that, as allways!
Super hype about these theories! This is pretty well known one, but I really love how you laid out all the facts! Great job cant wait to see more.
Carlin brothers making name of the wind videos is like a dream come true
