Composing music am I right? Anyway, I hope everyone's doing well!
My PC needed some maintenance so I was unable to edit videos for a few weeks. Also, I'll be moving to another continent this month so I was thinking about making some Q&A while I'm getting use to the new country. Let me know what you think it.
Good job on the passion to make music for your own games, it really comes in handy and the more you learn music stuff the more fun it becomes, trust me
As a person who makes music. that was good for the main song!
@@AURofficialI highly second this
Dude this is good for a first time! There’s definitely a learning curve when it comes to making music (I’ve been learning for like 2 years) and it seems like you conquered that quickly. Great job!
started composing music for my game as there were no musicians in my team, so far i found it really hard to understand melodies and music as a whole, but music theory helps a lot, also what i found really helpful is take a song you like and try to imitate the vibe from it in your own composition. Not copy it, but try something similar
Are you looking to hirer an musician?
that's called inspiration
What software you use

As a music student, the only advice I would give you is steal. No, seriously, take things that you like from other composers and mix them all together, theory is useful, but that taste and intuition is what's going to give you success and satisfaction.
As 8bit music theory said:
"The difference between plagiarism and being original, is that you steal 6 people instead of one"
Btw, to be your first composition is really good!! Keep going!!
While it is important to respect the originality and work of other musicians, learning from them and incorporating elements of their style into your own can help you develop and refine your own musical style. Additionally, having a good understanding of music theory can help you become a better composer as it provides a foundation for creative expression and facilitates understanding of how different elements of music work together. Doing both can help you become an even better musician and find greater satisfaction and success in your creative pursuits.

As i delve deeper and deeper in a self-educated way to learn music and actually compose instead of just rearranging, i often turn to melodies from my past. Oftentimes there are no scores to find so i decided to get familiar with a midi controller.
When i understand a maybe only 10 second long melody it just fills me with satisfaction. I even started to modify them, workaround with them, change the stile it is played in and for...
It's a blast. :)
What are these replies 😭😭
>As a music student, the only advice I would give you is steal.
So use AI?
It’s incredible that you learned how to use FL to a high level in 2 weeks!
All thanks to your awesome tutorials! Keep up the good work 🙏
I wouldn't call this high level lmao
Thank you so much! Your tutorials were actually a big help to start learning it
(I mean, i wouldn’t call that a high level but whatever)

4:14 don't worry, Nintendo won't sue you... because the one that owns the rights to Megaman is Capcom.

literal what ti was about to comment
I had this exact same thought process 😂
As someone who has been a composer for 10+ years, it's really interesting seeing someone new to music getting a grasp of the concepts (since we've known them for years they are pretty much part of us, we don't even think about it).
I like your result!
If you were to give a newbie a piece of advice about music composition, what would you say?
@@zablade I know you didn't didn't ask me but as someone who is currently studying art music and composition I hopefully know enough to give some advice!
My best tips for starting out and getting the ball rolling is to use your ears (sounds redundant but I promise theres something to it). Even if you have no schooling in music theory, your brain is -through a lifetime of listening to and encountering music- very acustomed to many of the conventions of western music. If you were to sit down at a piano (or whichever instrument you prefer) and simply try playing notes until you find a sequence you like then you already have a brilliant start for a composition. Even though the choices you make might not be consciously made, you'll find as you learn more about the workings of music that they generally fit quite nicely into the frameworks of music theory. Learning about things such as harmony and progressions is of course very important as it widens your arsenal and will allow you to make more aware choices in your writing, but it's important to have fun with the process as you're learning rather than tunnel-visioning on the idea of mastery.
Really try and write something (it can be short and simple, in fact I'd probably reccomend that initially) and just focus on making a thing which you enjoy. Parallel to that, watching beginner friendly theory videos is going to help you out a ton so I strongly reccomend doing that as well!
If you're curious about good starting points or want some more specific pointers then I'd be more than happy to offer what I can! And cliché as it might sound, make sure you have fun with it!
@@zabladehe probably sucks so it's not worth to ask
@@DeeCeeHaich Nobody asked for your opinion which sucks though did they?
@@maximewikenfors6305 Hello sorry to but in on this thread but could you possibly send me some good starting points materials or links that can help. I am looking into doing music possibly for a game that I am currently creating and kind of want to make it myself. I have been studying and trying to understand it enough. taught myself a bit of piano and a lot of guitar so hoping to get a clear understanding of composition.
I'm a producer of almost 6 years now and I will say this is a rather good start!!! I've seen so many people who take 5 months to get to the point where you are. Be proud of that!
this is such an unreal delightful composition that I wanted to make an hour version of this melody!
Yo
Right? It actually sounds really good
Nice job, dude. Sounds nice. If you're beginner at composing music, it's harder than coding and drawing (my opinion). Because music is the thing you heard and you cant describe what sound you need etc etc. I'm still trying to make game music for 2 years.I don't know they're good or not. FL Studio's stock plug-ins are not for game music it may be hard for beginners.
I totally agree that it is harder for beginners. At least for me it's really difficult to comprehend.
Best of lucks with your projects, dude!
@@MultsElMesco thanks
yeah i agree... i dont have any intention in becoming a music composer i just want to make something original because taking what others did and making an animation out of it makes me feel guilty lol, i tried making music and well... i hate it, it makes me cringe hard
There are a few plugins that are really good for game music. For instance 3xOSC is a simple oscillator, it also has a bit crusher, and you can use harmless/harmor for some good synth sounds. It nay take a bit of practice and finesse but the tools are there
@@silvydb thanks
This video was pretty awesome. Finishing things in gamedev is difficult because there's a "good enough" state that we can reach early, but we don't recognise it because it's not perfect... to us. To everybody else, they accept it as part of the game's experience, and sometimes even think it's awesome!
With this video, i'm now 1% less bad for when it comes on how to make music xD
Also, congrats for your first sponsorship Mults... I was here!!
in my opinion, the best thing is jazz theory for video game music. it really adds emotion to the pieces, and jazz is so free
Salute to Jazz!!
All i know about jazz theory is ii-V-I and "use 7th chords" am i good or is there some other really basic thing i should know?
@@ashtar3876 extensions add to the harmony and make it sound brighter.
example: you can turn a CMaj7 chord into a CMaj9 to include that D in the harmony.

I've been composing music for 6 years now, and commercially for the last year-ish. I've touched upon a fair few styles myself, from Ragtime to Trailer music, to country and EDM.
You did this in two weeks basically starting from nothing. Believe me, this ain't a bad first attempt. The production of it was waaaay better than some of my earlier work
As a Musicial Artist myself, the music you have made is actually really good. In fact, it's better than most of my music tracks. Good Job.
that song is actually cool
if you add a few sound affects for explosions and gun fire it will be a fully fleged game in my opinion.
also you could add some lighting with the plugins in unity it gives aa really cool affect with very little effort
Damn this at this rythm you will be making a videogame studio in a day!
THIS WAS.... inspirational, I have been so intimidated by FL Studio and music production for so long, but honestly I think you just inspired my journey to take that leap and just SEND IT! I may even make a channel around that whole Identity and for that. Thank you!
hope u sent it! and have fun:)
holy shit, who knew i needed this channel in my life. Relatablility off the charts
Be proud of yourself! This is a great accomplishment, all you can go is up. Great stuff.
0:01 Please, I cant be the only one who heard "wing f*cks"
I heard it as well
As someone who uses FL studio and makes music your first attempt was fucking amazing
I'd say that melody tempo is quite meditative for a pretty intensive game you've shown to us
As a composer I can only say that you did a great job.🎉 In 2 weeks you learned a new software, used effects, learned to have different approach to a structure with the same chords, and the most important, the composition goes well with the game. It can improve but for two weeks is already great.
That's actually amazing for your first attempt. I'm struggling with music so badly.
Damn, man... I don't know why(I never played Megaman), but this music teared me up. It feels a bit nostalgic. And those leads are very smooth(it's hard to add leads without being distracting, even when instruments fit together). Good job!
amazing video as always 🔥🔥
Thank you very much!
that's kinda good for a 2 weeks progress :0 I remember my first attempts were really chaotic and bad, so it's ok and there's room for improvement
You've inspired me to open my DAW and fake it too! I'm already a game programmer, though it's been years, let's all become the next Zun.
Man, I think you might be underestimating the music you have composed. I think it's great.
Why im feeling nostalgic vibes from the music you have been made, its beautifulll,it remind me of my childhood life when it was totally fine😔😢
Music Production is so easy to approach, I myself, who doesn't know any music theory still can make stuff (ok, I have to come clean, I approached sound designing, so I barely touched the music theory stuff lolz)
I was heavily interested in game developing, since I know for sure that with my knowledge of music composing, it would be absolutely amazing, but the overall coding things seems pretty intimidating, it bugs my mind pretty often when I attempt to do it.
And man, your struggle with music reminds me alot of myself in the past, I love seeing a reflection of myself from another perspective.
Foming from someone whos been trying to make music for years and failing at it.....dude you are doing great. Keep up the good work and dont be hard on yourself. When it comes to production you start to think something sounds bad after working on it forever. What you made genuinely sounds good, especially with how little time you had to practice and put it together.
Thank you, i really needed this for class!! Also the song is a bop!!
This inspires me to start working on the remixes ive planned since eternity 🤸♀️
man this was actually really helpful, I always assumed artists just kinda came up with melodies and everything with all their music magic- I think I'll go replay my favourite games I want to take as inspiration for my own and "borrow" a few bass lines haha
Your song is kinda good. Give yourself props, you did a good job.
Late Comment here but I am in the same situation-ish. I found out getting an MIDI Keyboard makes it way easier to create new melodies due to the instant feedback it provides!
It helps more than watching some random tutorial. The theories will advance your skills, while a midi keyboard will allow you to express creativity! :)
That amongus with doom soundtrack. 💀💀💀
Made me giggle. Subscribed
why is your music so nostalgic? this was awesome!
I've been trying my skills at this genre too. It's the most underrated classic genre of gaming.
A tip for making melodies: make it feel like the instrument is singing. A good example is the OST for the Donkey Kong Country series; songs like Aquatic Ambience and Forest Interlude have melodies that sound like someone could sing it and makes it feel more alive.
Btw, good job stacking the layers :D
I like how the subtitle says "How to read [__] Music"
i’m currently learning how to compose music for some video games i’m making with my friends, and i love smashing all of my favorite and niche musical influences together to make shit. my favorite thing is taking some existing songs whose vibe i’m trying to match, and write my song in the same key as one of them, but i challenge myself to put no more than three similar/same chord progressions, rhythms, etc.
i’m already a singer with decent relative pitch, but i’m steadily teaching myself proper music theory. ngl i don’t really NEED to learn it, but it’s nice to have actual terms to explain why something does/doesn’t “work” instead of just going “uhhh because i want it to be like that?”
When I Started with FL the thing I struggled with the most was the instruments. Really good song though!
1:05
The immediately joy on my face seeing one of my favourite youtubers in this video
As a musician i can tell literally we all steal chords and its not stealing actuslly because there is already a system with progressions that we can maybe modify a little if you want to? But its still the same. Its like using formulas i guess nut chaging the letter X to an "A" for example. Everything it's literally invented. You just have to out some imagination to create something new and original from it! Or not. Thats cool too! To be honest clichés can be a great challenge. And by that i mean, the most used poor chords. Its about making them yours and unique or just something typical but catchy! Everything is great. That's the gift in music. Almost everything is already invented thanks to Bach-san. To me he was more like a scientific in music than a composser tbh. I love your video btw! Even if i find it now, a little late haha
Nice video man, thanks for that!
i have a question:
Now that you made your own music, how much do you would pay for a composer to make it for you?
Thanks!
this was pretty cool!! as someone who's getting started to music (via mobile, that is lmfao) i can relate bunches. just getting to make something up can be a pain
That was a banger, tbh
Thank you!
Very good! Im a music composer, i work making OSTs for games and short films, and this is a very good start! For two weeks is a good work and its fits very good in the game. Maybe in a future you will want another DAW, bcause FL studio dont works well with some music things (as time signature changes and odd rhythms). In my opinion, Reaper is a free and good alternative, its not THAT easy to use, but i dont think that its horrible hahaha, and there are a LOT of tutorials.
ive been making music for almost 3 years and this sounds better than a lot of stuff I make
Yo! This beat be BUMPIN!
I was in the same boat as you when creating music for a Bullet-Curtain game (and still am).
Loved the vid.
Btw, a daw is like the software equivalent of a recording studio, where all your recordings and music software is combined and you master it with tracks or whatever. -ableton user

Dude that beat you made sounds like a Sega VGM, like Outrun or even Sonic, sounds really good.
As a musician, I want to say that it's super cool that you learned how to use the basic features of FL Studio in such a short amount of time!
Omg dude this is not bad at all
This is beyond terrible 😍

I'm not even a game developer, I just like making music and wondered how non musicians did this lol I kinda wanna make an OST now
HEY!! Charles Cornell!! He’s a genius!
Glad to know I'm not the only one that had to crunch music composition from 0 knowledge to 'presentable' in a matter of weeks, what a roller coaster of emotions man, one day you feel like a king after you managed to string a couple of random notes into something pleasing to hear and the next day you are at rock bottom thinking you are WAY in over your head because nothing you put together sounds 'right'
I LOVE THE MUSIC PLS RELEASE IT I WANNA LISTEN TO IT EVERY DAY
That`s amazing Zyzz music cover brah, never stop grinding.
3:40 yeah i know this pain. I'm making music over 2 years now and i have this feeling almost at every project.
I am the only one in my team who knows what a chord is, so I am the de facto music composer. The struggle is real
Dude, I feel you :(
same feeling right now. im in a music group with my friends and im the only one who knows how to use the fl interface well enough to make stuff.

That is a pretty awesome track considering it is made by a beginner...!!!🔥
damn, for only 2 weeks that music be bus'n *bops head violently*
fun fact: the whole soundtrack was made undertale was made in fl studio
not sure how "fun" that is. most music is made in a DAW now and FL is a DAW.
I think you got lost in that sentence

this is awesome
as an fl studio user that makes ear breaking music that people like, this is truly the moment ever
Great job!
That's a Megaman soundtrack all right, add a midway out of bounds interlude where everything changes for some reason then comes back to normal and it'll be perfect
Same dude I'm terribly bad composing a music.
Thing about music for me is it sucked for a long time and then one day it just kinda clicked and it somehow didn't suck as bad anymore..
I started composing myself after years of music. In search of people, relatives, and probects to begin to produce something useful ( i have a personal video game soundtrack in prep but it will be an album only, with no real game behind !)
nice mix
dis sum top tier development content
THIS IS SUCH A VIBE
i would sugest to look for midi chord progresion, sample and drum loops next time. i did like the track but there was a lack of energy because of the lack of drums elements and no melody cuts/variantion. i could imagine some nice drum and bass drum loop for you track. but gg for your 1st track
4:32 A bit off topic but, how the heck is that guy in that ShutterStock photo not have his hand burned by the hot end of the soldering iron?
3:11 3:30 Did... did you make those? ...I'm gonna be honest, they kinda slap. Would love a full version. Took me a second to realise you were talking about them when you were talking about the trash you made. Seriously thought it was taken from some game. WTF
it sounds like a copy kitty song
your own melodies were actually alright, all you fucked up consistently is dynamics - your sound is a constant blob of volume without ups and downs; and drums - they are not mixed in at all.
