    This video inspired me to go on a 3000 mile road trip with my best friend through the northern rocky mountains. It was pretty cheap and an awesome adventure. that experience completely changed my trajectory and inspired a passion in me for nature and the outdoors. For anyone thinking about doing something like this, just do it.

    In 2016, I took my 3 kids out of school and we lived in an RV and traveled the US for one year. In the RV we saw the lower 48 (all of them), made it to Alaska on a cruise ship, and hit Hawaii on our way back to Australia (our home). This brought back so many powerful memories that I had to keep stoping the video just to deal with the emotions it brought out. We traveled so many of the same roads, and I times, I think we may have even been in the same campsites.
    I'm so glad I found this, and look forward to your future videos.

    I have a brother in North Attleboro, where you started. It's a lovely, HUGE house and I designed his landscape. PART of the many, many things I've done in my life. My brother is only semi retired, in his 70's. That's how he has maintained his life and vigor and longevity, doing work and play, taking his sailboat out, shooting his guns, and writing for his newspaper.

On motorcycles, a backpack, some road map and few dollars and to make sure we where safe, a collect call to my parents once a week. A film camera and a few shots to remember by. Photography now being a big part of my life documenting the family, mostly the grand kids. Enjoy your journey and keep the videos coming. Stay safe!!!

    I don’t know if you guys ever read the book “Trout Bum” but I’ve always wanted to take a year and do just that. I’ve been a Fly fisherman for 35 yrs and remember in the 70s it just seemed easier to “get away”. Sadly, you still very much need money to “rough it” these days- even campsites become expensive. Today my health has robbed me of such adventures. But I pray that I’m able to at least do a trip this Summer with my two adult Sons so we will have something like this to look back on. It may be the last time I have a chance to do this before their lives are “too busy” as well. So awesome that you guys took the time to connect w Montana. My feeling is that Montana is a Fly Fishing experience not to be missed. Some of the best trips I’ve ever had.

    Sure is beautiful country, I have lived here since I was born.. As a native Montana resident I thank the tourism industry for helping fund our states struggling economy I.e. this film here. On the other hand when I hear things like "we left for the north to avoid the crowds", I cant help but hear some sort of elitist attitude and cant help but think, you two are the "crowds". From the perspective of an angler that lives here anyway, Rock creek is barely fishable anymore, flooded with out of state license plates and people who run through the woods to cut me off at the best holes, I call the leap froggers. I hope you guys were respectful and enjoyed yourselves. Thanks for the support and you make a nice video, but every year our state is flooded with people, some humble and some that seem to exude a sense of superiority and entitlement to our water. Stay humble. Peace

    • @TightLoops
      @TightLoops  7 років тому

      Thanks Caylin! Glad you liked the film. Just to be fair, my entire family is form Montana, and I've been fishing these waters since I was a boy as well. That stretch I was referring to is the Madison between Hebgen and Quake lakes and even when I first fished it 20 years ago it's been outrageously crowded on weekends. Hell, even most weekdays.
      It's certainly true that rivers are getting more and more crowded, and even the great state of Montana is not exempt from the growing pressures of increased angler counts. Everybody hates "leap froggers" so you're not alone, but to blame that mentality on people from out of state is a little silly. There's plenty of Montanans who'd be just as happy to leap frog you as the tourists are. And in the interest of staying humble, we should all remember that our waters don't belong to "us" any more than they do to anyone else. That's the wonderful thing about this countries public land; it's there for everyone to enjoy. It's also important to remember that none of us are really "natives" here. (I'm assuming form your name that you're not Native American)
      When we fished Rock Creek in 2015 we didn't have the same impression. Has it gotten worse? It's a shame if so, I don't imagine it can sustain too much pressure for too long. Hope you find some empty stretches this summer ;) Tight lines.

    Long before you were born I used to quit my job and drive my 1968 VW Campmobile out to Montana. I arrived around June 01 and based in Livingston and fished Armstrong and Nelsons virtually everyday. Armstrong was free and Nelson's was $10 a session ; dawn to 1:00 and 1:00 to dark. If I got bored catching 16" - 19" wild browns, rainbows, and the occasional cutthroat I would drive down to YNP for a week or up to Glacier. I'd leave for home around Labor Day. I did that for five summers. I was just 26 my first trip. Great fishing and awesome memories.

    Makes me miss home so much!! I grew up in Butte and learned to fly fish on those exact waters. Rock Creek is what I refer to as my home water. Many many saturdays and Sundays throwing the royal wulff into that crystal clear stream watching the west slope cutties just ravage it like nowhere else I've ever fished. Casted my last fly with my dad on his favorite place on earth Rock Creek. God Bless you both for making a spectacular film!!! THANK YOU!!

      Isn't life strange? Yep, we are in MA now, and that is the very same Jane. My mom is her daughter, Julie Pascoe. In fact this film is dedicated to her at the end. The summer we made this film she passed away while we were visiting. Aimee got to meet her briefly before her passing. We are totally on Instagram @tightloopsfly. My parents are actually moving back to Butte in about a year, to live in Jane's old house on W Quartz, and help take care of her husband Art (my moms dad). I think once my folks are in Butte Aimee and I will have plenty of reason to visit more often!

    • @TightLoops
      @TightLoops  5 років тому +6

      Hey! Thanks so much for taking the time to reach out. We always see this stuff, it sometimes just takes a while to reply. I usually let the comments build up for a month or so then take them all out with one fell swoop. Not the best method, but we're often not in a position to reply immediately, and I hate having to do it on my phone. So, for this film I recorded VO with the kit mic on our camera (Sony Fs700). Its actually a really nice shotgun mic, which a Sennheiser-esque sound to it. I had bought a cheap all-inclusive kit from Senal (I think it had a mic, shock mount, stand, slr cable and a USB interface, as well as a free copy of Audacity. I couldn't figure out how to get this awful noise floor out of the USB interface when using the Senal mic, so I used the rest of the gear and replaced it with the Sony shotgun mic. I was pretty new to VO at the time, but made sure to wall off a closet and deaden the hell out of it with foam and blankets etc. Looking back now I would have done more in post to sweeten the audio a little more, but it came out ok. Since then I've started using that Senal cardioid mic again, and just ditching the shitty usb interface. All in all I think that whole Senal VO kit cost like 70 bucks or something. Worth it for sure but you'll need to do a little work to get it sounding great. I've had the privilege of recording VO on higher end mics, and it's a goal to invest in one, for sure, but they are in the $700-$1000 range and I just haven't bit the bullet yet. Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions!

      Tight Loops wow thank you so much for the detailed response! I loved this style of video. The voice over was spot on and very professional. Outstanding film! My brothers and I are looking forward to our trip next month into the Yellowstone area. This will be our first journey there. This film you've made is a perfect inspiration to us three guys... and taught us a bit about how to forget about our usual lifestyle for a while. Thank you for the awesome sharing of your experiences.

    Great video! Brought great memories of fish caught and places traveled to cast a line. You catch the feel of life and the love of nature as most important the love of fishing. Now that I am older can’t get out as often as I would like but with people like you I can again. A big THANK YOU. Also If you can share a love of fishing together, life with each other will be like it was supposed to be. Life is fishing! Fishing is life!

    So. I just got back to New Zealand after working in Australia for two weeks. I brought some whiskey with me (cos duh) and got home to a couple of friends who were watching shitty trout fishing vids on UA-cam. I shared my whiskey and they both passed out. Now it’s 3am and I’m watching your video. I’m not a fisherman, and it’s apparent that is irrelevant. Your adventures are so cool and your cinematography so epic, it’s a real inspiration. I’ve traveled a bit but you’re reigniting the fire. You did good. Thank fuck for UA-cam just picking random videos for me
