I grew up in Santa Barbara CA. Left there in 1989 with a college girl for Arkansas. She's now my wife ... 30 happy years. I go back to Santa Barbara on occaision. Get asked where I live and get laughed at for my reply. But I just smile. Arkansas is drop dead georgeous and I ain't leaving.
Living the dream in Mt Olive just north of Mountain View on the White River and this is heaven a slower pace of life living the simple life. Everyone friendly and just the old time southern charm. I am 26 years old and i will be living here until my ashes blow in the mountain breeze. Wooo pig !
Our Family drove 1,300 miles from Utah (known for great fly fishing in it's own right) to fish Northern Arkansas. We were not disappointed. I've fished Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and the NWT of Canada. These fisheries in Arky can go toe to toe with any of them. What an "unknown" gem this place is. Already thinking about our next trip... Excellent film.
I still think there is nothing better than building your own leaders and tying your own flies then catching fish! This is what gear fishermen will never understand
I was born and raised in a small town in Arkansas called Leslie , I learned to fly fish on the small creeks near home , using my Grandfathers old rod , my Grandmother gave it to me when I was about 10 . I lived within three quarters of a mile of White River for nearly 20 years , now I live on lake North Fork , I have enjoyed Fly Fishing the creeks , rivers and lakes of Arkansas all my life . It is a hidden Treasure , Man I love this film . Great Job !!!!!!!!
Who is still watching this video in 2024. I just moved to the area and fell in love with this place after visiting in 2019. I have lived everywhere and this is the area I will fish till I am gone.
Honestly, my sons and I were already going to fish in north western Arkansas this June before we even found this video. I shared this with them and it really built a fire under our butts.
Good job guys! Personally it's a blessing that Arkansas is not on the radar. My family and I moved to Glenwood, AR. area five years ago and we love it here! Little Missouri river, Caddo river, self creek, it's fishing heaven!
It tickles me that there’s actually a documentary about my home river. living in norfork and it being such a small town stuff like this just makes me smile
Made my first trip in March this year, man I can’t wait to get back to the Norfork and White rivers! Everything they said here is true! A great fishing destination
This video was perfectly put together, the B Rolls, voice overs, editing... everything was on point. Amazing video overall 🤘🏼. Makes me proud to fly fish.
I've never been to Arkansas, but, I promise I would love to fish these rivers. I've fished the Cumberland River in Kentucky over 100 times, and no two days are alike. I can only dream of how wonderful these two rivers are in Arkansas .... Thank you for such a great video, documentary ...
Absolutely beautiful video. I started fly fishing the White and Norfolk with my Dad in the mid 90’s. I lost him a few years ago but am taking my best buddy for his first trip in November. Excited to start a new chapter. Your video gets me excited all over again!
Having been an outdoor sportsman my whole life, I have hunted many species in many states with both gun and bow, however when I want to go fishing I've never felt much need than to go beyond the Ozarks I was born and raised in because in my eyes it's the perfect fishing haven here.
Loved the memory jog, my granddad moved the family up there in 44 to work on the dam spent many hours fishing off the dam with him. Now he's been gone for 40 years I fly-fishing. May have to go back and see the area again.
This was a wonderful film showcasing the area and the passion some have for fly fishing. I am a flatlander in central Tx teaching myself to fly fish in hopes that i can be proficient enough to give it a go when i take my family to your area in the coming July. Really cant wait to see that beautiful country in person and experience it for all it has to offer
Awesome. I can't wait to get out and fly fish. It's currently 0 degrees and snowing in Tennessee. I went to camp every summer growing up at Kannakuk on Table Rock lake. I love Arkansas
A wonderful film. Well done. It looks like you have a lot of small planter bows in your river system. When I think of the White River, the stories of massive Brown trout and big streamers come to mind. Glad to see that reality offers more diversity than just hunting big fish which can be a feast or famine undertaking.
My grandparents lived just between Shirley and Mountain View on the Little Red. I always loved going down there and fishing during the spring, summer, and fall months. It's still my favorite place! Great video guys!
I vacationed there from Colorado a few years ago and went back last summer. It's a hidden gem! Anything outdoors that's not snow related can be found from climbing, to kayaking, to fishing.
I was 15 and my father also heard of the 38lb brown that was caught there. One of the best times of my life and made it back a second time. Caught my biggest rainbow around 5lbs.Planning on taking my family this summer.
Great job guys! Looks like an amazing fishery. Thanks for opening my eyes to this special place. Cheers, from British Columbia Canada! Might have to come visit!!
As a trout angler and guide from Michigan's U.P. our tailwaters are unique and hold some big trout of the 3 species Brown's Brooks and Bows but all I can say is wow ... I will be planning a trip down your way. Awesome vid guys.. let's see some mousing vids !
Good management is the best solution I wish the Bow River management would get that! We have catch and release 0 retention but there are other neglected practices that could be easily implemented to get the kind of benefits you guys and gals are enjoying! Well done!!!
Bowfins and gar aren't trash fish though, if you can actually catch a bowfin it puts up a hell of a fight same goes for gar and if you can get through a gar's skin they're really good eatin.
Awesome video! Been visiting and fishing below Bull Shoals dam since I was 10 years old and am just now really getting into fly fishing. Will be there in a couple weeks for the weekend and this video just made the excitement to get there so much more real!
Perfect Video, Made me want to move there!!! Just getting into Fly Fishing and this video made me Love it even More, we've got some great areas to fly fish here in TN, National Park in the Smokies, Holston River, Clinch River!!! I can't wait to go fish Now!!!!
Joseph Winsett awesome Joseph! Glad you started fly fishing! Spring river is awesome! If you ever need help In your fly fishing pursuits Just come on over another hour to cotter and visit the White with us!
Well these trout fisheries were Arkansas' best kept secrets until now lol. Looks like a few of us are going to have to come up from Texas and get in on some of this action.
amazing video guys - cant wait to try some of those rivers - you are spot on - why spend all the money going to Montana or Idaho when i can drive to Arkansas (from Indiana) --thanks!!
My family and I just moved to Bentonville. I’m wanting to get back into fly fishing after a 20 year hiatus, and would eventually like to teach and take my boys when they’re old enough…any tips on where to go relatively nearby? I don’t have a boat and would prefer, if at all possible, somewhere within an hour drive that isn’t overwhelmed with other people. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Beautiful video you guys should thank the fish Gods everyday I live in Rhode Island and there is only a couple of places to fish stocked trout and when everyone in the state find out through Facebook or on line in general people are shoulder to shoulder using power bait and live baits just keeping their limits day in and day out I'm a member of T.U. in my state so we all practise catch and release and it kills me watching people keeping trout just because they can
I grew up in Santa Barbara CA. Left there in 1989 with a college girl for Arkansas. She's now my wife ... 30 happy years.
I go back to Santa Barbara on occaision. Get asked where I live and get laughed at for my reply.

I saw this, it made cry, fly fishing is what life is about. It gives you sanity, peace, and you find your worth. Tight lines all

As a lifelong arkansas sportsman I often forget about how great our state is.
We are the Natural State after all
Honestly, my sons and I were already going to fish in north western Arkansas this June before we even found this video. I shared this with them and it really built a fire under our butts.
