MWolverine 1969 is On Point about Cypress Point. Just look at it!! It makes Pebble Beach look like a neglected Junkyard. Absolutely no comparison between those two Iconic Venues. I've never understood the Overblown Adoration showered on Pebble Beach. To anyone saying that The Sister Links in Monterey match this, I pose them one question. What in Heavens Name are you looking at?!! The Irony of MWolverine 1969's statement is that both Augusta National and Cypress Point had the same course designer. The Legendary Alister MacKenzie. To be truthful and fair, the real Designer of these Eighth and Nineth Wonders of the World wasnt MacKenzie at all. IT WAS GOD!!! MacKenzie just put the finishing touches on these Masterpieces. Like the Prettiest Girl in School. No hair out of place. No pimple on her face. He probably isn't the only Golfer that wouldn't donate a non essential body part to play those crown Jewels. Or even an essential one!! Just to verify Cypress Points Idyllic Ranking. a group of Professionals were polled about their favorite course. You guessed it. Cypress Point was Number One and Augusta National was Second in The Miss Golf Course America Beauty Pageant. I don't understand why more Tournaments aren't played at Cypress Point. There must be a Legal entanglement hindering Professionals from soiling and tainting nature's most hallowed property. If you want to see other properties that outshine Pebble Beach, take a look at the Hidden Links Commercials on the Golf Channel. The Seaside Courses in Scotland and Ireland defy description. Yes, Pebble Beach is a lovely layout. There are others however, that make it appear as ordinary as the proverbial nose on your face.
Came down to the last hole, and the last putt...Hogan was putting an eight footer for birdie... And said " there's no way I'm gonna let a couple of amateurs beat me...." He holed the putt for a 63...
John did they change the course? I ask because the 16th hole was a par 3 when I was fortunate enough to play CP. Holes 5,6 & 10 were par 5s? I have read Mr Hogan did have a putt to win the match however both finishing holes were par 4s. ⛳
@@johnwhitworth9074 You are wrong, because the eagle on the iconic 16th would have meant a hole in one. The pros went 1up on the 10th when Ben holed his approach shot for a 3 to win. They went on to halve the remaining holes to barely hang on. On the 15th, Ken and Ben both made birdie. On the 16th, Harvie and Byron both got on the green (217 yards over water) and both made birdie. On the 17th, Harvie and Byron both made birdie and halved. On the final hole, Ken was about 15' from the hole and Ben 8' from the hole and Ken made his putt for birdie. This was when Hogan said, "I'm not about to be tied by two amateurs," and he drained his putt to win the match 1up. Ken said in a magazine interview that the bet the pros had with the amateurs was $1500, but nobody knows what Eddie's bet with George was.
Wake up Hollywood...make this book into the greatest golf movie EVER!!!!!
I'm reading Mark Frost's book now. What a great part of golf history.
I stand corrected. I do remember reading Hogan missing many putts early on...but then he played "Lights out" on the back 9.
Definitely the best golf book I have read. The author, Mark Frost, makes it seem like you are there. He also wrote "The Greatest Game Ever Played".
I read both books and concur 100%. They were outstanding. You were disappointed that golf is only 18 holes. :-)
I love "Golf in the Kingdom" and "The Legend of Bagger Vance" for the spirituality of golf...but yeah...this Book was very very good.
His book about Bobby jones, “the grand slam” is another fantastic read
I'd give up a kidney to play Augusta, but I'd give up two to play Cypress!
Correct bro
It is a great book, "The Match". Read it.

I believe the difference was an eagle by Hogan on the 16th hole.

⛳
It was hogan’s eagle on 10 that was the difference.
I read the book..I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure it was Hogans Eagle on 16.

one thing about ken is that he sure loved ken!
If you guys think pebble is a legendary course, cypress point is on a different level. Ben Hogan walked the fairway please....
