    I did this today and OMG what a breakthrough for me!! My down swing thought was "crunch"! I feel low but I'm likely level as I turn and crunch.
    Hi normally hit my 7 iron 145-150, but consistently hitting 160 and straight at the target with the crunch thought.

    Percy Boomer, the golf instructor and old WW2 British sailor compared the stretch of the left side to hoisting a cargo net. “First you take up slack, then you take up strain, then haul away.” The left side being slack at the top of the swing, then take up strain as downswing begins and keep that strain to the finish.

    Time to make a new video on this. I am a 3 cap. My issue is from down the line coming up and out, so my head would move away from the ball at impact. Spent days trying to fix it on my sim. The right side crunch fixed it. Time to get to scratch this winter.

    Tried this on the course last weekend. Felt like this cue fixes most of my downswing problems, including early extension. Having the impact position in mind sort of reprograms my brain. Whipping straight drives and smooth compression where I almost don’t feel the ball. Thanks Eric, another great tip!

    Fantastic! At last an explanation for the mystery of how the shoulders stay aligned to the target while the hips and rib cage are twisted open to the target at the point of impact (and much earlier in the downswing). Do you think that extending the lead shoulder fully toward the target at impact through its full range of motion eliminates a degree of freedom, and contributes to reducing contact dispersion around the sweet spot?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  10 місяців тому +1

      Thank you! I do yes....it also helps get the hand path working UP and IN through the ball.....good contact and good face to path control!

  • @rondziuk3
    @rondziuk3 3 роки тому +1

    Eric, As always great video. For me, the gold was that the shoulders appear to be closed. So much talk is about opening up the chest that it's easy to assume that the left shoulder is pulling back. This was a big problem for me. It caused a loss of power and control. Super stuff. Thanks very much!

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 роки тому

      You got it, Ron!
      Yeah its tricky and can be deceiving.
      Rib cage open a bunch but with shoulder protraction shoulders not as open for most.
      Players with lots of depth in backswing can get more open and flat with shoulders

    Great tip! I recently found out that I wasn’t doing enough side bend. My shots were going left and hooking real bad. Was playing around hitting some balls the other day and added more side bend and wow. Better ball flight, straighter and more accurate shots.

    To your credit EC, you did a video, has to be like 2 years ago or something, where you went very in-depth on the Protracting/Retracting of your Scaps, that feel (for me anyway) is CRITICAL to creating the separation and impact conditions were all chasing! I focused and keyed in on the hips/lower body for a long time, for me, it just promoted that dunked under, right shoulder dip= left shoulder high too quickly= flip throw= Snap Hooks for days off the tee= :(
    I definitely got a little chunky initially 😬, but if you just train it, give yourself permission to chunk, hit some sh*tty shots, you will develop the motor pattern to organically get into these positions, not create them, and THIS is a massive piece if you want to really take your game to another level. You’re the man! Cheers!

    This really can help me. My biggest flaw is standing up during the down swing. Head comes up and I become flippy. The funny thing is I don’t think I’m standing but watching it on a video recording tells no lies. Tough to correct. Body does what body is used to. May need to join your golf instruction special offer. 😀

      Yessir Tim! Video never lies....for better or worse :)
      Chicken or the egg....
      If you stand up you have to flip
      If you flip you have to stand up
      Make sure face is square enough and shaft is not steep (2 common reasons causing flip)
      Right shoulder more down and forward, trail arm and wrist more bent feels (likely need to exaggerate)

  • @wallstreetoneil

    And what you really need to do to get this Right Side Bend with Bent Right Arm at Impact, is get that f'ing club squared early so you don't have to flip the club to get an impact that creates a playable golf shot that isn't in the trees on the right. Your clubface square to you back, early on the downswing has completely changed my golfing life - it allows you to do all these things in this video - if it ain't square early, you're going to be 100 yards into the trees on the right with these moves. Square it Early and you can be like Justin Thomas

    I'd be willing to bet that most golfers have a huge struggle with coming from the inside out, to this impact position that you're showing here in this video. Do you have any videos that show what you should look like from left arm parallel, to shaft parallel in the down swing; to this impact position? Moreover, drill on how to come from the inside out to impact?

      Hey Keith!
      Nope....backswing would be too flat with shoulder, would have too much arm rotation, shaft too flat, face too open. Your brain won't then LOSE that side bend to start down
      You want a slight right side bend at setup, left side bend in backswing, right side bend in downswing...no getting around all 3 :)

    Can a tight left lower back lead to pulling the hands in toward impact and toe strikes? Almost feels like I have to choose between my upper body being out toward the ball or my hips being back, which might be a sign that I need to work on my flexibility there?

      I would say around 50-50 at setup and more 70-30 or so left at impact (80-20) also cool. Thats without your head/torso moving too far forward.

    I finally beat early extension and that pelvic jump in transition by almost moving my hips away from the target (that's the feel). Impact looks great now, but my upper body flies toward the Target, open and up right after impact. Does this have to with side bend?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 роки тому

      Yes, you likely need more right side bend.
      Keep head behind stick over lead shoulder. Right shoulder closer to right hip, head back, chest up.
