  • I recently bought a sailboat, a Cal 2-46, in San Diego California; however soon after buying the sailboat, I was evicted from the marina and forced to sail the boat somewhere else. I found it hard to find crew to sail north where I would be able to work on it, so decided to sail south to Mexico.

Got here by way of your blog, got there via Pinterest. I assume you had to go thru the Temporary Import Permit process to relocate your boat to Mx. Curious how that went and did you do it yourself or get a "facilitator".

I did get a TIP when I brought my boat to Mexico. If you stop in Ensenada, which you should, most of the marinas will help you through the process. It is quick, and they were very accommodating, considering my documents hadn't quite caught up from the CG. Thanks for reaching out; let know if you have any other questions!

I just sold my Columbia 56 in LA, and am getting ready to sell my Bayliner 4550 in Portland OR. I am going back to a mono. After a lot of research, I think I am going to look for a cal 2-46. Any issues that you don't like with yours?

To be honest, I haven't spent much time on mine as of yet. I can tell you that every 2-46 has little differences in the interior design. My master cabin has 2 bunks rather than a bunk and settee. If I had my choice I'd have a bunk and table with seats opposite (saw pictures of one). I'm skeptical about cooking underway in any type of weather, but the boat has gentle movement compared to others I've been on in moderate swell, so we'll see. I am also planning on putting in storm glass with that smash resistant coating. The thin plastic that is currently in mine I don't think will last. The engine room is huge and every system is accessible, with plenty of room to work. I also like the u settee and table (converts to a day bed) over the L shape settee in the salon. I'll be refitting in SoCal in the next month, so sure there will be videos and blog post in the near future. Feel free to ask any questions, I'll try and answer the best I can. Thanks for reaching out!
