SAILING Puerto Penasco to La Paz, Mexico
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- Beware sailors - especially captains and crew in La Paz area - of Kimberly Weber (the sailboat owner of 'Alita Fox' in this video). She has demonstrated that she will steal your time, effort, skills, and money without hesitation. We didn't know about her before this fiasco, so we feel the need to warn other potential captains and crew in the area.
We wanted this to be a simple story about sailing from Puerto Penasco to La Paz, but instead, it became a scenario where we were simply scammed.

Speaking of scams - please do not accept any offers of prizes, merch, deals, etc. from any account in the comment section that looks like our UA-cam channel. Just like many other channels have pointed out, it will definitely be the infamous comments section scam. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing. Saddened by your experience but encouraged by your grace.
Thank you - we're encouraged by our viewers to keep on going even when things don't work out at all.
Old style routine - one of you - walk her to the bank - whilst Robbie takes the winches off the yacht. simple four winches should be able to recover your costs.
😆
⚔
Sorry to hear about your experience. People always forget that the wheel is round and it turns. She'll get what's coming to her (3 fold) have no doubt about that. Don't let this experience dissuade you from being kind to deserving people. You are wonderful for being kind. Just be wise as well.
Thank you for watching. That's what we definitely felt - it really screwed with our minds about how much we can trust people, and how can we learn from it.
Uhg sorry to hear about this, guys! We were in la paz during Chris and we saw that woman at the Club Cruceros. She was hanging out with another sketchy older guy who was getting into arguments with fellow cruisers, causing a scene. She had weird vibes and this story confirms our feelings. So sorry that you guys were taken advantage of, amidst all the great sailors out there, there are still some rotten eggs!
It would be great to only have nice stories to tell every time - but sometimes there are sketchy people for sure 😕
You guys are the most kind and awesome people here in UA-cam, big hug and a good New Year PS: good fishing is the way , I hope good fortunes come to you guys again🤗
Thanks! You too, happy new year and happy fishing!
I found her on Facebook and she was complaining that the crew was a bunch of godless atheists lol. She seems like a nut. I'm sorry that this happened to you guys. I saw your boat in Isla Mujeres I wish I had gone over to see you before you left. I love your videos hopefully we'll see you out there.
Funny how the most rotten of souls hide behind religion to cover their degeneration.
"complaining that the crew was a bunch of godless atheists" this explains so much, people like this are best avoided, fortunately she's posted this on FB now so people who encounter her in the future can see the warning signs.
I blasted her on her FB. She’s in LaPaz with no internet right now so it’ll be on her fb overnight. Hehe
She was hanging out in the parking lot of Marina del La Paz, last month (Feb). The first time we noticed her, she and her little dog were wearing similar outfits & her Pomeranian had just bitten a woman passing by. The second time she was standing on the marina’s boat ramp screaming at a driver trying to pull a tender out of the water. He had recently repossessed her dingy that she failed to make good on by a guy who has a long & healthy reputation. I do believe I hear something about her credit cards not working…not being her fault. It was impossible not to hear the altercation….the whole marina heard it.
Nice summary of sailing the sea of Cortez.
Thanks! Yep, they went from the very top to the bottom, a quick trip - very much an abbreviated summary.
What a bummer! I've met similar persons while looking for crewing opportunities, it seems sometimes peoples minds play weird tricks to them when they're "financially stranded" in Paradise. What worked for me was having a couple of cold ones with them and start to badmouth other boats or previous experiences, they mostly break out the stories how folks "did them wrong" pretty fast. Then it's just listening, pattern recognition, filling in the gaps and ultimately running away. But yeah, this doesn't work cross country. Better luck next time!
A person's worst enemy is their own mouth... famously.
I was once in business, this kind of scammer preys on those who have the least to lose. They do it over and over till they can no longer get someone to trust them. I got burned a few times. They Infect all situations.
You did what you thought was right, and the people you encountered prove normally it is. Time to move on, in the end she will be stuck somewhere. Having ripped of her last victim. And you will be moving on with life.
Good luck, love the channel
Yes, trying our best to learn and to move on. Thank you!
When helping someone out never use more or your money than you can afford to give away. I know it sounds inhumane, but people who have their credit cards denied it's because of non-payment. I do this with family all the time when they ask to borrow money, for example my daughter said if she could borrow $1000.00 she said she would pay me back. I said no, I can give you $500.00 take it or leave it. You can guess her choice, I'm out of $500.00 which is a heck less than $1000.00. Hopefully whoever reads this will be frugal with their money. Robbie God will pay you in blessings but you'll still be out of the amount you spent. Hopefully next time you'll ask for some collateral of some king. I enjoy your videos keep them coming.
Folks have been generous to us, so we remember that always and try to be generous back. As we have time to process what happened, we realize more and more, the bigger issue is not so much the number value, the money - but more so the vicious response to our request to be paid. Like, we’ve owed money for things in our lives also - we have a hard time paying debts we owe sometimes - however, we have never ever acted like this in response. That is what crossed the line from being money owed to being a scam, I think.
Glad you warned others...it always sucks to have your trust betrayed.
We really hope our experience helped to avoid another such mess.
That's shocking to hear, you didn't deserve that !
I wonder what she thinks you did to deserve that ?
At least you are not bitter about it, that shows your true character !
I'll see what I can do for you by way of a small contribution 👍
Time will hopefully make the list of asinine complaints that the boat owner made about us more funny in the future, maybe easier to share and to laugh about soon. Thank you kindly for watching and for supporting!
"I wonder what she thinks you did to deserve that ?" my experience with people like this is that they don't think about what you deserve, only about what everyone else in the world owes them just because they exists, they expect everyone else should do everything for them, but they shouldn't have to do anything in return.
Thank you for sharing your experience in such a thoughtful way, and I am sorry that you were taken advantage of like this. I recall seeing the listing for this boat, as it is pretty recongisable, and I expect the owner will get what she is owed one day. All the best to you guys.
Thanks for watching! Hopefully this helps someone out in the future to not make the same mistake we did.
The worst thing about being a scammer is that in her own mind, this woman has refashioned reality and made herself the victim. This distortion of thought is tremendously dangerous for her and anyone that comes into contact with her. In this fashion, she will never grow, never learn and spend her days in delusion. Tragic for her. I'm sorry this happened to you. Better days ahead!
This is very much the case. Thank you for the well wishes of better days ahead!
Wow. It hurts to get scammed and deal with sick people. Thankfully you are all safe and made the most of it. That lady is going to have stormy seas for a long time.
Yes, we're so happy that it was a safe trip. Cheers and lovely new year to you!
I am sorry that you guys had such a bad experience. That world's largest sailboat M5 was up in BC's Gulf Islands last summer and it was pretty impressive to see.
Robi was super excited to see it!
That is sad news. Glad you published this updated and exposed this dead beat owner.
Just hoping to help others avoid anything like this happening to them.
Thanks for the video and thank you both for your generosity. You are living a great life. Brush it off and move on. It may not feel right, but it is the bust for you both.
Definitely trying to learn and to continue on our way. Thank you for watching!
Sorry, but I hope you learned from this. I ran my own machine and welding shop for many years. Getting work was easy, I did a good job. But getting paid is another story. I soon learned to find out about who I was working for first. And in many case I would ask for money up front. Your time can not be replaced. It's better to pass on something rather than do what you just did. People will take advantage of your kindness.
Thanks for sharing - definitely a case of needing more money upfront than what we received - but we also thought that because it was done as a favour that we would not get actively stolen from. Imagine a good friend comes into your shop and says "do this small job for me please - you won't get paid much (or anything at all really)" and at the same time this skeevy acquaintance is in the background stealing from your wallet. It was a learning experience.
Robinson and Justine,
I can't remember if you did, but if you didn't mention the name of the boat owner and the boat name then I think that it would be a service to other mariners to film a short advertising her name and the boat name. This might prevent a similar occurrence from happening.
Robinson,
You Justine and your family are very kind. It's nice having a family that shows the value of making the best of life. Thank y'all for sharing.
Cheers!
Blue Skies, Fair Winds, and Following Seas.
Faithfully,
James
Hi James, we decided to give the information in the description below the video.
Happy New Year! So sorry to hear the tale of woe! It looks like a nice sail though.
The voyage itself was nice - I definitely didn’t want to miss out sharing that.
Not sure what can be said that has not already been sincerely expressed!
In time this will make for another sailing story, however in time… there will be a conclusion that will include an outcome that will not be of your demise, but rather one that effects the other party!!!
What a great story that will make….
Best if wishes and better success to you for the upcoming year!
And may I add.. Look out for Pirates… there not nice people!
From Oklahoma USA ❤
Best wishes for 2023 ⛵️⛵️⛵️
Best wishes to you also! Here’s to wonderful future adventures 🎉
You should name the vessel as a warning bolo for other potential crew/donors/victims.a true bottom feeder by the sound of it.all crap aside all the best for the coming year.keep smiling don't let the btards get you down.luv fro sunny MCR.
Hey, thanks for watching. The whole deal was made on handshake - not sure if anything official could apply here, but it is important to reach other potential victims. We know that several thousand people see our videos, many of them cruisers in the vicinity of the Sea of Cortez, so hopefully potential victims get to see the message.
@@sailorama I'm experiencing another kick in the gut bad faith rental agreement from a CROOK right now who refuses to honor his word and the law.
"A person is only as good as their word" but keep loving the poor folk who bend over backwards to be kind and helpful to strangers!
Happy new year. Cheers.🎉
Happy new year to you!
What a bad experience! I've seen this woman a few times at Marina La Paz in the last few days. She's always with her little dog.
Yes, we have been thinking about the little dog and hope that she is well fed and safe 😕
@Sailorama *_ Greetings and Happy New Year to you guys, may you have a Blessed and Prosperous 2023!! Love you guys and all GREAT things and wishes, Robert, Cape Town, South Africa _*
Happy New Year to you! Thanks!
She has the Jesabel spirit Rotten
That is totally messed up. I hope she enjoys the Karma to the fullest!
I mentioned in another comment - I dunno about karma, but certainly I believe in preventative measures. Hopefully this warning helps another sailor.
@RenegadeADV
Yeah, luckily for day sailors like yourself, who never venture outside the protected waters of your local bay in the U.S., you probably will never have to worry about something like this.
Thing are alway what they appear to be. Lessons are always the to learn from you said being taken advantage of humbling is it not alway pretty you guys are very humble and super kind ! The is an saying I give you my hand and you take my arm ! Thank you !
Yes, it's just like that, plain and simple. Thanks for watching, cheers!
I think it's it's a responsibility to name the vessel and person who scammed you both. So others will be forwarned
We really struggled with this - in the end, we gave more info in the description under the video.
Put the name of SCAMMER out on this video to warn others, put ALL info on them Out for the boating public, I would withhold the Boat until scammer has paid in full!!!!!!!!!
I really really hesitated about putting this person's name in the video description, however it doesn't make sense to tell everyone about the scam that they pulled and then not let anyone know who/where to avoid them.
To clarify, the info is in the description, right under the video.
That was great video. A pity about the scam artist though. No doubt karma will take care of her eventually...
Thank you! Yes, scam was a bummer, but the location beautiful 🙂
Hi guys. My husband, our friends and I know this person and we’re asked to captain it down prior to Robbie doing it. We were right across the dock from her. I’m so sorry she did this to y’all. I Can obtain info about her so y’all can sue her. She and her husband own a VERY nice condo in Penasco. We’re guessing that once she disappeared (left her husband) he cut off all access to their accounts. She can be very nasty. She cussed out a friend for not coming to her launch party. She’s CRAZY.
KARMA CAN BE A BITCH. She’ll stay in the waltz until she finds a new man to live off of
Heh...we imagined that someone else might have turned down the offer to move her boat - this is a video to make sure that others don't get wrangled into it as well! Thanks for watching and for the comment✌️
Sorry to ear this sad story.. you surely don't deserve it.. I wish you a splendid 2023.. you deserve the best.. your kindness, skills and love for the ocean are of example.. trust your future.. your will get many good things on your good way.. take good care of yourself and I look forward to meet you sometimes soon.. fair winds and lots of love.. Millo from Switzerland
Thanks for watching and all the best to you as well! Looking forward to starting a new year and for things to get better 🙂
Contracts can be very useful in these situations.
This was a handshake deal - but I still question what kind of documentation would have helped us in this case. For example, we have all the printed receipts, video and text confirmations that we paid for all her fuel, food, personal items, tools, etc. throughout the trip. We still don't have the ability to do anything other than warn others to avoid this person...
💜
what happen to the male that was on Allita fox, we met in loretto???
😲wow
What is also very ugly is those same type of low life will burn and take advantage of locals giving a bad vibe to all yachties 😢
Yes, indeed this is our worry as well.
Great video though! I'm sorry to here this, wish I could help. It's a smaller percentage of people who suck than don't.
This is very true - wish I had emphasised it more, in fact. The majority, especially in the sailing community, are good people.
Do cruisers need a special license or permit to fish in Mexican waters?
Yes! I believe we bought ours at sportfishing.bajacalifornia.gob.mx/, and many years ago we bought fishing licenses through the local fishing store.
I reckon those were drascombes run by NOLS Baja
I looked up NOLS Baja, and that looks about right! Could be them.
She didn’t give him any money at all or just some of what was owed?
If she didn’t give him anything he should have filled her gas tank with sand.
This is why I don’t help women. A similar thing happened to me.
We didn’t get into the specifics in the video, but Robi’s (only Robi’s) travel costs were paid in advance. That was the only thing that was paid for by the owner. The mistake we made was not asking for the crew’s travel costs as well. When trouble started brewing, it was then difficult to walk away and fly back home. We were trying to be nice by not asking for her to pay for crew travel costs, and in reality we should have refused to do it at that point. Gender had no bearing on the dishonesty 😝
I don't know what to say other than that really sucks! I'm not the overly vindictive type but I still hope that karma catches up to them.
I'm not a big believer in karmic philosophy, and certainly not in vindictive behaviour, however I do want to prevent more bad behaviour whenever possible - thus the warning to other sailors.
Never ever do anything for anyone when you do some thing like this unless they pay up front .ass holes are everywhere on this planet.
Pretty much - and also our experience, be seriously prepared to walk away even if you've travelled all the way there to do it.
Karma challengers ... they enjoy short term 'profits'!!
Cheers!
