When I was a kid, cutting up masking tape and covering the windows and wheels of my Matchbox cars, then brush-painting them with Testor's paint, had I seen one of Marty's videos, my head would have exploded. These restorations have elevated the hobby to the level of high art. Congratulations, Marty. Oh, and I also love the 'behind the scenes' clips where you drop stuff, hurt yourself with a tool, or swear like a truck driver over failed procedures. You make all of this accessible without the least bit of pretension.
I have to stop at 8:34 while you are talking about being a perfectionist, I am totally with you, my minds eye, my imagination sees how I want something to be. I am finding my skill does not match, and to me that is ok, I have to be ok with it and let my skill become greater. It takes practice, and you have much more practice than I. Love what you do, thank you for inspiring me!
Rob, that’s a spectacular restoration! I have two of these that I just have to play with from time to time and I’m 57 years old! Regards, Rob from New Jersey!
Restored to your usual high standard. Amazing that the vehicle was in such good condition 50/60 years after being made. You have given it another lease of life. Goodjob
Hi Rob. I just love when you guys, all you Matchbox restores, do the big trucks. I love the trucks, and the tractors, and all the heavy equipment stuff. I think that color is pretty right on for that casting. I was kind of hoping you were going to do the other four cars all at once too but, that's a lot of work. Bravo.
Awesome work, I have a lot of old cars that are rusty and worn looking. Some I like to keep that way . I liked the set you have with the original look , and after your work it’s awesome . Not sure which way it should be . Awesome, Mike Espo ..
The best to date I reckon. Should have come from the toy shop looking this good. The Anglia and other cars really bring out the character of the old girl.
Fantastic job Rob and some of the cars you are showing either at the beginning or at the end are some of my favorites too. Really enjoyed the video thanks
Here is a tip. When you are spraying the color. Have a cloth rag nearby so in between sprays you can put the can down and clean the can tip clean. It starts to build up and can over spray drops into your projects. I sometimes swap can tips. Some just spray better for me. Not sure if that will help. Keep up the good work. 😁🔥🔥
The car transporter- what an unbelievably beautiful casting by the Lesney boys. This is one of my favorite pieces as well, English! your talent for restoration is amazing- I dont have any funny stories this time as I am totally blown away by this one! I think its your all around best restoration yet! Smashingly well done old boy.. God bless you and family Ps- I always remembered a Tank transporter- have you one?
Beautiful, thanks so much . I have very old Matchbox ,I treasure, but never saw this model . I have the Ford Wagon , but wish I had the 57 Cadillac. I do own the Models Of Yesteryear Cadillac, and 1964 mint Ambulance, in my mint Fire House . Again, wonderful work ,I love these treasures.
You know Rob I said this b4 and I'm saying it again it's nice to see wee bits of history come back to life toys or not fantastic mate your getting really good at this keep it going 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
the truck looks great. the color is a great choice. you should try a lite sanding on the primer coat to give the top coat some tooth to bite into. edges and corners are hard to get paint on to bit tends to pull away from the edges
outstanding restoration ROB your best yet lesney never went to that much trouble regarding the glove situation I use non latex disposable with extra feel{nice} when I am spraying they last a long time and are easy to put on and take off worth a try available from most chemists. keep up the good work best regards.
Nice work on the 1957-1962 Matchbox Car A-2 Transporter it looks nice now! the other car transporter from the 1970's I think you were talking about was the Matchbox K-10 Car Transporter or the other Matchbox Car Transporters that are in the Matchbox Wiki.
Hi Rob, You've inspired me again. Just placed a bid for one on ebay after watching this vid. So, I'll do my best with it because I know that I'll win it! It won't be as good as yours I'm sure but I'll do my best. Thanks for the info for the paint etc. Let me take this opportunity to congratulate you on your superior video's, never give up doing them as I wouldn't have anything else to look forward to (apart from my wife of course!!!). I built myself a hobby shed in the garden 20x10 but only seem to find a couple of hours on a Sunday to enjoy it, work commitments :(. Keep up the fantastic work Rob, all the best, Dave.
Well done. While I am not a fan of the rattle can, I understand larger projects require a larger volume. Nice job. Looking forward to some smaller restorations.
@@MatchboxGarage Thanks man, you're only an hour or so down the road from me so not a bad shout! Already got a couple of cans though ready for some upcoming vids but cheers for the offer!
Pukka job mate! ...she turned out beaut, that would take pride of place in anyones collection👍. Donating some of your restos/customs to a museum is a great idea, or you could auction them off and donate the funds to your favorite charity organization
Amazing. I never saw any of the big Matchbox toys as a kid, only the regular cars--it wasn't until I started watching restoration UA-cam that I learned about the King Size and Major Pack lines. Makes me want to go back and alert my child self, except he wouldn't know what I was talking about (you can watch videos on a worldwide network of computers? what?) and my parents would probably call the police. :) That first-coat relief effect did look really cool. I can understand why you didn't want it on this particular model, but maybe someday you'll run across a casting that it works with. Dropped a little something in the mail for you today, so be on the lookout for a large envelope from the wilds of Maine. :)
Nice resto...I had that hauler as a kid in the mid 60's..it hauled a lot of cars for hundreds of miles.... if I'd known as kids where the value would go on these.. I'd have bought 2 ..1 to store and the other would definitely gotten it's usage as they usually did 😊👍
Awesome job Rob! I've been waiting for this resto since the unboxing video with this casting, the slightly darker blue and your other changes definitely look better than factory in my opinion. Nice little easter egg in the video to have the unrestored truck with the unrestored cars and vice-versa, I'm sure most of us picked up on that before you mentioned it. That paint issue you mentioned is common when you have sharp angles on the painting surface (most commonly 90 degree angles) it's due to the surface tension of the paint causing a thinner layer where the angle is sharpest (usually right in the corner of the angle).
That light/dark unevenness happened to me with Testors enamel French Blue when I was painting a 1/24 scale van. Makes me wonder if it's a property of whatever they use to bring that pigment to the paint since it's nearly identical in colour. Same for me extra coat and fine.
Toy museum still there at Bethnal Green? They used to have some lovely exhibits like Gamages old model train set and all manner of car stuff like the actual Austin pedal cars, really cool place if its still there.
Yes. We do agree. :) i keep thinking, you are getting better all the time. When will you have maxed out? Where is the ceiling in this? Not seen it yet. And not expecting it anytime soon. As simple the casting is, you made it really special. Thank you!
I'm 66 years old and seeing that beautiful work on that transport with those shiny period cars, gave me some little heart pangs. Well done mate.

I'm not Marty 😂
I enjoy listening to you waffle on while you’re painting or working on the vehicle you have a pleasant voice and you are giving great information

A beautiful sky blue. Lovely work as always Rob.
Looks stunning Rob. It was interesting to see the rust and grime coming off the axles.

Another great video, really enjoy seeing your restoration videos. Especially on the Lesneys I own.
Lovely color and great details. I think you put out much more content than the other lads, with a high standard of quality.

ASMR has always been in the back of my mind
Love it! That came out beautifully!
Very nice. Sometimes the best customs are the simplest ones.

Very beautiful restoration. Looks awesome. To protect the decals maybe it is better to put a layer of clearcoat over it.
Absolutely stunning, same colour blue that I've ordered my new car in :)
Beautiful track. Thenk you for your work. Very nice)
Great job bro, nice casting.
Wow this is a beautiful work you did love your videos like your accent
I just to have the K8 Guy Warrior Car Transporter in Yellow, that was always on of my favourite Matchboxes. Lots of fun.
It looks amazing, great job!
Best one yet mate! Lovely job.
Beautiful Work!
Nice work, Good to see one again as I had the very same as a Lad, a long long time ago, 69,,ish
I had two of these. One is now in Australia but the other one will be restored by me. If it turns out half as good as yours, I'll be well pleased.
Brilliant job!
Another great job there Rob I don’t think I’ve seen anything in your unboxing videos that I might like
Oh!... Are you sure?
Very nice paint on this one!

Simply beautiful job Rob. Love those American cars. They have so much accurate details it's a shame Matchbox painted them in one or two odd colors!😍🍺🍺
