All silk and dope finished. Hand painted. I did alot of that enjoyed every minute. Those days long gone. Only videos and the dreams of a great era of model airplanes. Thanks for the memories.
The location of the field was near the intersection of 18 Mile Rd and Mound Rd, (in Troy, Mich I think), off 18 Mile. Those were the days when there were farms and the area hadn't been developed yet. You could fly early R/C planes with unmuffled engines. I believe the area might now be a trailer park, or modular homes. I have a picture of the area from Google Maps. It used to be a huge area and the field was set a long way in from the road as you can see from the first video. There was a barn close to the road that we had to drive by, maybe 1000 feet or so to reach the field. It's all congested development now.
Be for my time; only remember dadd many hours building & srong smell of butrate dope & thinners used on all his planes think @ that time it was silk... & Latter became coverall. Material simulat to sekenight used pn fill scale.

It was great to see Mel Santmyer in this film. I just spoke with him about the film, he said he was the contest director at that event.
I'm building Don Coleman's Cutlass Supreme from 1970. It's my all time favorite vintage "pattern ship". Building per plans to fly in S.P.A. events.
I'll soon start building a Taurus from scratch for a local nostalgia event in 2017. Best looking FAI plane ever.
Nostalgia, lots of nostalgia. Definitively, aeromodelling isn't as it used to be. Loved the beautiful SIG Stratus with double fin.
Golden Age of RC plane !
