Welcome to my Friesian Horses channel.
My name is Yvonne. I create and post videos about my daily life with Friesian Horses. I will show you the true Friesian Horse and what they are like: day to day care, training, riding dressage and the very special birthing of foals. I explain the facts about breeding Friesian Horses and the steps I take to help better the breed.
You will learn that Friesian Horses have a naturally high gait, whether or not they can jump, if they are good for beginners and what they eat.
You will see them running, trotting, playing and even fighting.
I show you every aspect of my life with horses; the beautiful and the not so pretty. What you see in my videos is real!
Did you know that the Friesian Horse originates from Holland, specifically Friesland? That is where I live! I hope Friesian Horses will be love at first sight for you.

Um... not so much. Coralle was willing to accept some of Yvonne's help but several times was on the verge of threatening Yvonne with the headshake of imminent doom. If Yvonne hadn't built so much relationship with Coralle over the last 11 months, Yvonne would have been attacked. As it was, Coralle was on the edge of it. I was pretty freaked out, wondering if Bauke or anyone else was monitoring the feed from the stable cam for Yvonne's safety.

@@FriesianHorsesUA-cam is so strange! A video just popped up on my channel about a dummy foal. The owner said there is a technique to use to help them. It’s a neurological condition and in birth the brain doesn’t get the signal to do the necessary steps they need to do as newborns. So the procedure is to wrap them for a bit, release them and see if there was a breakthrough. The method is called the Madigan Squeeze….the video that popped up was by Diamond W Barrel Horses. But there are others by vets also. BTW it’s technically called Equine Neonatal Maladjustment Syndrome…also a video showing how to wrap the foal. Madigan Foal Squeeze Technique ARS

It was thought that the condition, called Neonatal Maladjustment Syndrome, was neurological but now it’s believed to be caused by the foal not spending enough time in the birth canal & being stimulated to wake up from the dream state they’re in while in utero.
There is a new technique being used called the Madigan Squeeze where ropes are wrapped around the foals body then pulled tight & held for 15-20 minutes. The pressure of the ropes mimics the pressure of being born & the foal “wakes up”. I’ve seen foals go from barely being able to stand & not nursing to prancing about & eating with vigor just moments after the Madigan Squeeze. It’s pretty amazing that such a simple & effective technique has been found for NMS.

My horse had a dummy foal. I had lost one of her babies because I did not know what was going on. I ordered colostrum and foal Jump Start for the next one. Sure enough, another dummy foal. But I gave it the colostrum, milked the mare and gave that colostrum to the baby, but what worked to get it acting normal was to wrap a rope around it and squeeze it. The first time did not work, but I tried again and that time, the baby leapt up like he was shocked and began exhibiting alert behavior. There is a vet that theorizes that the hormone the keeps the baby still in the womb is still present in these foals after birth and that maybe the birth process did not trigger the necessary cessation of that hormone. All I know is, it worked for the foal. I did have to call the vet and get antibiotics for it as the colt was a long time without colostrum before I found it lying there.

  • @wwaxwork
    @wwaxwork Місяць тому +14

There is some cool new research into NMS. There is a new theory that it is caused by a hormone switch, that keeps the horse quiet in utero, neurosteroids, not being turned off during the birth. Neurosteroids are often found in the blood of NMS foals and not in the ones that have more normal reactions after birth. Other animals have similar problems, I've had it with lambs. There is a squeeze treatment they do now a days that can flip the switch in some animals brains so they "wake up" but it's all still in its infancy, but the research is fascinating.

      Madigan Thoracic Squeeze Technique
This method is used to treat foals that display NMS symptoms because their placental hormones have failed to drop. Performing the squeeze may trigger a drop in hormone levels so the foal can stand and nurse.

I read that sometimes the foal is born but it's hormone levels are still high as if it is still in the womb, so it doesn't act like it was born, it acts like it's still in the womb. When the hormones drop it will begin to seek milk, but that could take too long. There is a technique to use to squeeze the foal, but it's not something that should be done without training because it could hurt the foal. We already know she has lived past this but it's still hard to watch. Poor little thing. And poor Coralle.

My schoolfriend got a child that doesn't felt necessary to drink too and need to reactivate drinking reflex every time for months too.
With Belle I think it was another case because her first trying to stand was only a little with all legs and not as long as possible so her front legs maybe more strong moved her too fast for mind into corner so she felt supported there best to lean on.
Moreover the doesn't felt comfortable with being licked on her nose of Coralle but liked to like by herself that' s called in human speach a bit autistic behaviour.
It's not shure because it happens maybe it gets help with making more contacts, choose of some food and overreactions with light, noise ie
It was a really strong and hard time waiting so long till birth and now these situations. Nature isn't same anymore and with Friesians aswell
      Good luck now ❤

5/12/24 This was fascinating to watch, but scary too. Belle definitely did not look well. Between all this and then what you went through with poor Unike, you must have been drained physically and emotionally. Don't know how you find time for editing, but we really appreciate it!!! Hope you are feeling much better and will have a beautiful mother's day ❤❤❤

      I most wholeheartedly agree....
If there were ever a time help was needed, it was on the evening of Belle Uniek' s birth....
and no one was there, to even hold. this confused little filly, whilst you introduced her to the bottle....
      GREAT JOB, Yvonne!

Madigan foal squeeze! She looks a lot better than any of our dummy foals ever have (and they turned out fine) so I hope this has a happy ending!
