Honestly it's not underrated, really. It may seem that way nowadays but this is an older series we're talking about here. You have to keep in mind that this anime stopped airing in 2009. Spice and Wolf was a very big series back in it's day, if not one of the most popular, and it is still held dear in the hearts of many older fans. The sad reality with Anime and it's community is that people love to follow hypes and what is in at that moment, and that is all they will talk about until they move on to the next best thing. That is why you will rarely hear anyone mention older series. Luckily Spice and Wolf still has it's loyal fans up to this day and it still gets merch made, like figures, quite regurarly despite being an older anime. Which is amazing. It is still one of the better stories up to this day and I find myself thinking about Spice and Wolf a lot. I keep holding out for a third season. Now that Wolf and Parchment's novel is still going strong there is hope for a continuation someday in the (hopefully near) future.
