Man, imagine if pebble sold to Citizen. We would probably still have their fundamental tech and ui in the marketplace. Nothing has met it's *blind* utility since, and no touch driven interface can.
I still wear a pebble to this day, rotating between 5 separate Pebble Times and two different Time Steels. All still have a longer battery life than any applewatch save the super chonky one, and they are all much slimmer.
Honestly a Pebble does everything a Watch in the modern day needs to do. It has notifications for every app I use, it sets timers, stopwatch, literally any sort of watch face you could desire, and in it's heyday several on smartphone watch face designers. You can wear any sort of strap you desire.
It's readable in sunlight. It had a baclkigt that can blind you in the darkness if you set it so (the setting is appropriately named "Blinding").
They're also just full of charm. The Quiet Time mode (do not disturb) flashes a tiptoeing mouse. When you mute an app's notifications, an ostrich puts it's head in the ground. When you clear your notifications it plays a paper shredder animation, which is surprisingly smooth for a display of its power draw.
I have an android so I can sideload the application whenever I change phone.
If you're on Android, I would definitely say that a pebble is worth it today, but you have to be comfortable with a little but of hackiness, as the pebble main servers are down forever :(
However, there is a community project, Rebble! They have replacement servers you can subscribe to for things like weather, and they have an updated firmware that redirects the app and watchface/app store to a beckup they host for free.
If you can find one for sale, especially an uninterested private party that has just had one in a drawer for a few years, you can get a pretty good deal these days, maybe $50 on the cheap end shipped. I would personally buy one in good condition for $100 with no hesitation.

Mine pebble time steel is still working and im loving it. The greatest thing is charging it once a week. For those who have had one back when pebble went out of business it was a nervous time. Fans of this watch built the pebble rebel app which extended the life of the watch.
I have used it along with a $30 pair of wireless earbuds and get a clean and simple look and approach to a smartwatch.

My old Pebble Time died recently & for me there's nothing out there that quite fills the gap- although I find the Watchy open source hardware idea intriguing.

Coincidentally I bought a Pebble Time watch a few days ago.
I had one when I was a student but lost it. Certain a housemate nabbed it.
Any idea what the best app is for it on Android?
