Yea that's a pretty good summary of it for genre's. I wouldn't back it off much past 5 though for indie or pop (pop especially because a bright chimey guitar tone will cut the band and sound more polished). It seems like when I have the tone knob dialled all the way up to max, it sort of accentuates every single detail/mistakes in my playing and makes it sound sloppy :( Not to mention the horrible noise and hum. Great video btw!
Thanks for watching and commenting! If you mean that your tone knob is set to 10 (or all the way up like if you turn your volume knob up all the way) the tone knob is having no effect. The hum is probably from single coil pickups, try using one of the 'out of phase' (second or fourth settings) to use other pickups to cut the hum. As far as the detail and hearing mistakes unfortunately that's just the guitar showing what you're doing on the instrument. There are a bunch of things you can do to have more accurate picking, try using rest stokes if possible or slow down and practice a trouble spot a bit slower to iron out those issues. Best of luck!

MINOR ERROR, try to make a lesson on getting various types of Woman Tones using the wah pedal plus the tone knob settings. Its a combination of both. If you just roll down the tone knob you have to boost the signal because rolling down the tone knob halves the output signal in your guitar so it needs to get boosted to get that woman tone

i´m sorry to bother you but can you answer me this question? i have one pickup guitar and, is it possible to use a 2 way switch as a tone control rather than change the pickups? by doing this i´d have a totally open or a totally closed tone. Thank you.
I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having a guitar wired up like that, but I don't see why you couldn't. You'll have to talk with a local guitar tech about your options and how to make that a reality though. Best of luck!
@@NikosKatsikanis not sure I understand your question but all of the controls on your guitar can be combined in different ways to effect the tone of the instrument. The tone knob basically just makes it sound darker to the pickups it’s connected to. Hope that helps.

I'll be honest, I don't know too much about how either of those bands dial in their tones (not really my cup o tea) but I would guess that yea you'd want to keep the tone knob turned to 10. For the most part the tone knob is not very commonly used in rock music, that's why some guitar players like Eddie Van Halen or even the most current Plini Strandberg model don't have tone knob's equipped. First, do you have a guitar with one or multiple tone knobs? I'd start by using a clean sound on an amp, turn the knobs all the way to zero and play, then turn them up to 10 again and see if you can hear a difference. If you can't then they might be broken. The amp settings I’m using is a balanced tone, not overly bright or dark. Using either the tone knob or a wah to get the woman tone will color the tone so heavily I don’t think you need to dial your amp in a special way. Just make sure you’ve got a nice amount of gain to get nice sustain. Good luck!

So my volume and tone knobs have stopped working and feel loose aswell, my tone knob keeps spinning but not unscrewing and I don't understand why, both are master knobs and it would be amazing if you could explain how to fix and what the problems may be
I'm not really good at guitar stuff but I know a bit about electronics. If you know how to solder, or someone who does, you could remove the potentiometers and try to open them. Then you could try cleaning them from the inside with some rubbing alcohol (there's like a little sliding rail made from graphite or something under the casing). Make sure you don't mix up your potentiometers when reassembling because tone pots are linear and volume pots are logarithmic. When everything is reassembled and it still doesn't work you might have to replace them. Edit: just reread your comment and if I understand your explanation correctly, then your spinning tone knob might be structurally damaged and the cleaning will probably not help. Replacements should be pretty cheap tho.
Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the knobs on your guitar. It's pretty hard to me to help you as there could be a bunch of different things causing the problems. If you can get the knobs off that's def help you figure out what's going on. They could be spinning because the nut that tightens them has come loose, although if they've stopped working then there's probably a wire or two that got ripped off when they were spinning. Easiest solution is probably just to take it a guitar shop and have them look at it. It'll cost more than trying to do it yourself but it'll get fixed right. Best of luck!
IMHO: ...if you play single coils, esp. the tone knob allows you to tweak the highs and response for the room you are in quickly. ....humbucker guitars tend to be "hardwired" to the patches / amp settings these days, and the frequency output of those types of pickups are not as subtle, imo. Likewise, if you play with a pick and really dig into the string it tends to undermine the way a string vibrates, e.g. imagine a classical player using a plectrum heavily, etc. That's not to say one way is right or wrong, just that the tone knob serves a different function depending on what type of pickups you are using.

I'm not sure I agree though, IMO the tone knobs work the same way on both humbucker or single coil guitars in that it's a quick and easy way to dial in the overall brightness of the pickup. That said, as a rock/metal player I really don't find much of a use for the tone knob as I'm playing primarily heavily overdriven or distorted tones and keeping the tone knob up to 10 gets me the sound I'm looking for. I also find for almost everything I do, playing with a pick as light as possible really helps too, I rarely dig into the strings hard unless I'm trying to really emphasize just a few notes or going for a pinch harmonic. You probably don't need to use the tone knob at all for fingerpicking but I'd suggest starting with it turned to 10 and having no effect on the sound and then go from there. If the attack seems a bit bright or harsh try rolling it back slightly and if it's still too bright maybe roll it back more. Finger picking on electric isn't as common as it is on acoustic guitar so it's hard for me to give any other suggestions without hearing exactly what style you're playing. When I do any plucking with my fingers on electric it's hybrid picking so I use the fleshy parts of my fingers to pluck the strings and not my nails. I don't have any problem with it sounding harsh so there's no need to use the tone knob for what I do. Hope that helps, good luck!
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with them, but just from googling it they look like a reasonable budget beginner guitar. There's nothing wrong with that, it'll get you started on the guitar. Just keep in mind you'll outgrow the instrument sooner than if you bought something like a Donner full sized guitar (here's a link to a review I made recently) I was blown away by how nice the Donner played and sounded and only costs $110. I find rolling the guitar tone knob off ruins your guitar's overall tone and makes it muddy. If I need less brightness that is better done on the amps tone knob which will keep your guitar overall tone intact.

Neck pickup and tone knob are just there to boost my fundamental so I can tune quicker. I play hardcore punk so I have literally no other use for it. I might do more with it if I had more talent, but that would be a lot of effort.

@@aminorerror Try it. Roll the tone right off and switch to the neck and the fundamental gets clearer, the tuner needle / readout wobbles less and tuning is a bit faster! Super useful if you need to drop tube mid set but don't want to swap guitars.
This guitar is a multi scale instrument, what that means is the neck is longer on the bass strings (strings 6,5,4) and shorter on the top strings (strings 3,2,1). That's why they look weird and angled. The advantage of this is there's more tension on the low strings so they play nicer, and stay in tune if you're going to drop tune it but the high strings stay at their normal tension. That's just another design choice on this guitar, it's headless to save weight and eliminate neck dive which can become a problem on extended range (7, 8 or 9 string) guitars. On my single coil guitar when I turn my tone knob all the way down and use high gains it removes the terrible humming sound almost like a humbucker, is that normal with most tone controls?
The tone knob is rolling off or removing all of the high frequencies from your signal, so it's harder to hear the 60 cycle hum that single coils put off. The hum is still there, and by rolling the tone knob back like that you'll have closer to 'the woman' tone that I described that Eric Clapton was famous for. The problem is that a tone like that won't be very articulate and prob isn't the sound you're looking for. That will work for for now, but I'd recommend eventually investing in a guitar with at least a humbucker in the bridge if you're planning on playing with a high gain tone often. 60 cycle hum is just part of the trade off of playing with single coil pickups. It is possible to buy single coils that will cancel the 60 cycle hum but you'll loose a bit of the sweetness that makes single coils so great. Hope this helps! That means that you've got tone knobs for specific pickups, instead of just one like I had on this guitar. If you've got a Les Paul style guitar, then it's probably one tone knob for each of your pickups. If you've got a Stratocaster style guitar then it's one tone knob for the neck and middle pickups and the bridge pickup has no tone knob control at all. The reason for that is because the bridge pickup is designed to be a bright, clear and focused sound and the tone knob removes that. Best of luck!

Try using a bright clean tone and experiment rolling it back slightly to hear how it shapes the attack of the pick to hear the nuances between just all the way up or all the way off. Best of luck!
It's actually not true. The tone knob is in parallel, and so even at maximum does reduce the brightness a bit. Now it's in series with a capacitor so only the very highs are affected, but still it's going right to the ground. And this is why tone controls are different in different guitars. Humbuckers use 500k pots, single coils 250, and a p90 can use either. The jazz Master uses one meg. If you get a sufficiently warm pickup you can delete the tone control and get the pure sound of the pickup and it still sounds great. Tone controls usually sound bad, But a treble bleed circuit will help. Or, if you are using lots of distortion or a processed sound, And especially on the bridge pickup It could be used to change the tone without bringing in a muffled effect. There are some real active tone circuits that they put in guitars, But don't have the same issues with the passive controls your guitar has, but it is hard to find them and they're not very popular for some reason.
While you're technically correct, this video is aimed at total beginners and for the sake of simplicity there was no reason to go into all of that detail. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching and commenting! First, most Stat's don't have a tone knob for your bridge pickup (and that's the pickup most players use for distorted tones in punk and rock). Usually there's a tone knob for the neck and middle pickup and not the bridge, although your guitar might be different. I'd recommend starting with adjusting the pedal, that way when you're going from a clean tone to a distorted tone you can just switch on the pedal. You could also try adjusting the amp too, anytime you're adding equipment to your signal chain it adds some complexity that'll take some time to explore and figure out. Depending on the distortion pedal you've got you'll have more or less tonal options from it. Another solution might be to dial up a channel with some slight drive on the amp it's self and use your volume knob to get a cleaner tone if you need it and then dial in the distortion pedal with a more conservative setting to kick the amp into higher drive. Usually for punk especially you don't need a perfectly clean tone anyway. Hope that helps, best of luck!
Assuming the strat is a three pickup single coil model, strat's have separate tone knobs for the neck and middle pickups and the bridge pickup has no tone knob. It's like so that the neck and middle can be setup for different tone changes with a flick of the selector switch and the bridge pickup is designed to be bright and clear which is why it doesn't have anything wired to it. Hope that makes sense, I'll be making some new videos that are aimed directly at a Strat in the future!
Try listening with headphones are pay most attention to totally on vs totally off (especially the clean guitar examples). That should help, best off luck!
That's a solid mod, I've gotten rid of the tone knob on two of guitars also. It is nice having one though if you're going to be using the guitar in a few different genres, having that quick flexibility to control the brightness in a jam shesh in jazz, fusion, blues or funk can be clutch. I wouldn't describe it as high bass, you don't want/need to boost the bass control on your amp to get the 'woman tone' (idk why he called it that lol). It is a very dark guitar tone that has all of the top end of the guitar signal removed by using the tone knob or a wah pedal.
You could have a strat like setup where each tone knob only works with a specific pickup so you might not be on the correct pickup when using the tone knob. They could also be broken, you might want to take your guitar to a local shop to have someone take a look at it, there's not too much I can do to help without having the guitar physically in my hands. Well, they could be broken. Or if you have a Strat, the bridge doesn't have a tone knob, just the neck and middle pickups. Try a clean tone and turn them all the way to 0, play something and then turn then up to 10 and play again. If they aren't broken you'll def hear a difference. Watch my video as I go thru the different settings and see if you can hear the difference and then try your guitar.
@@aminorerror I have an Epiphone sg g400 pro. I'm pretty sure they work, but I don't notice anything, it's like with the selector switches, I didn't notice anything while switching between treble and rythm, and the treble was like turning it off untill I decided to get a pedal, that's when I noticed the difference, after that it was clear, but I still can't figure out the time knobs. My guitar is brand new
What pedal did you buy? There's a big difference between pickups but you might just not know what to be listening for. Like all things in music, it might seem subtle at first but they change the tonal characteristics of your guitar a lot once you hear them. Try all the way to 0 and to 10 and back again a bunch and you'll notice a difference. Make sure you're adjusting the tone knob that goes to the pickup you're using.
@@aminorerror I just did that and it help. I wasn't listening to the right stuff and I noticed that the tone makes the sound "warmer" or "colder", that's the best I can describe it.
Nice, glad you can hear how it's changing your tone now! It can be very subtle, like I mention in the video, using it to soften your pick attack is a great musical use for it. More extreme settings work great to make your guitar sound like your playing jazz, or with distortion you can get Eric Clapton's 'Woman Tone' sound. Best of luck!

Sounds like you have a Fender Strat setup, the first tone knob usually controls the neck pickup and the second one controls the middle pickup and the bridge doesn't have any tone knob control because it's supposed to be bright. Good luck!
@@aminorerror Not true, if you don't believe me try it! They make "No load" knobs for this reason but a complete tone knob removal is the easiest way to understand what it does to your guitar signal which is destroy it. if you look at a schematic you see that the tone pot is being used as a variable resistor in series with a capacitor. The problem with this is there is still a tiny bit of high end being bled off with the tone knob all the way up. If you want your full bright tone this needs to be removed. If you want to keep it as an option you can either add a bypass toggle or a cleaner option is a tone pot with a push/pull switch wired to take itself out of the ckt.
Wes, you're completely missing the point of my video. This video is designed for extreme beginner guitar players who just got a guitar and show them some great musical examples of how you can use the tone knob. While you're *technically* correct that there's a load still placed on the signal, it's subtle at absolute best. My problem is your suggestion that all players need to modify their guitars and remove the tone knob all together is ridiculous. The amount of tonal change a standard tone knob puts on the instrument is only going to be noticed when analyzing the frequency response in a computer. I have a guitar that has no tone knob on it already by the way. The difference before and after was basically unnoticeable.
@@aminorerror I have a terrible ear and I can notice the difference, especially when using single coils with a lot of high end. You don't have to ditch the tone knob completely, you can swap it for one of those no load tone knobs made for this very purpose. If your cap is a.022uf vs a .047uf or something you may not notice it as much.
There's plenty of people who would agree, and plenty of rock guitarists that never use it. It def has it's uses though...otherwise it wouldn't be there! Experiment with using it slightly on a cleaner tone/jazzier tone, that's where it has it's most musical uses. Best of luck!

There are a bunch of things you can do to have more accurate picking, try using rest stokes if possible or slow down and practice a trouble spot a bit slower to iron out those issues. Best of luck!

MINOR ERROR, try to make a lesson on getting various types of Woman Tones using the wah pedal plus the tone knob settings. Its a combination of both. If you just roll down the tone knob you have to boost the signal because rolling down the tone knob halves the output signal in your guitar so it needs to get boosted to get that woman tone

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having a guitar wired up like that, but I don't see why you couldn't. You'll have to talk with a local guitar tech about your options and how to make that a reality though. Best of luck!

I'll be honest, I don't know too much about how either of those bands dial in their tones (not really my cup o tea) but I would guess that yea you'd want to keep the tone knob turned to 10. For the most part the tone knob is not very commonly used in rock music, that's why some guitar players like Eddie Van Halen or even the most current Plini Strandberg model don't have tone knob's equipped. First, do you have a guitar with one or multiple tone knobs? I'd start by using a clean sound on an amp, turn the knobs all the way to zero and play, then turn them up to 10 again and see if you can hear a difference. If you can't then they might be broken. What is a good amp setting for the woman tone?
The amp settings I’m using is a balanced tone, not overly bright or dark. Using either the tone knob or a wah to get the woman tone will color the tone so heavily I don’t think you need to dial your amp in a special way. Just make sure you’ve got a nice amount of gain to get nice sustain. Good luck!

So my volume and tone knobs have stopped working and feel loose aswell, my tone knob keeps spinning but not unscrewing and I don't understand why, both are master knobs and it would be amazing if you could explain how to fix and what the problems may be
I'm not really good at guitar stuff but I know a bit about electronics. If you know how to solder, or someone who does, you could remove the potentiometers and try to open them. Then you could try cleaning them from the inside with some rubbing alcohol (there's like a little sliding rail made from graphite or something under the casing). Make sure you don't mix up your potentiometers when reassembling because tone pots are linear and volume pots are logarithmic. When everything is reassembled and it still doesn't work you might have to replace them.
Edit: just reread your comment and if I understand your explanation correctly, then your spinning tone knob might be structurally damaged and the cleaning will probably not help. Replacements should be pretty cheap tho.
Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the knobs on your guitar. It's pretty hard to me to help you as there could be a bunch of different things causing the problems. If you can get the knobs off that's def help you figure out what's going on. They could be spinning because the nut that tightens them has come loose, although if they've stopped working then there's probably a wire or two that got ripped off when they were spinning. Easiest solution is probably just to take it a guitar shop and have them look at it. It'll cost more than trying to do it yourself but it'll get fixed right. Best of luck!
IMHO: ...if you play single coils, esp. the tone knob allows you to tweak the highs and response for the room you are in quickly. ....humbucker guitars tend to be "hardwired" to the patches / amp settings these days, and the frequency output of those types of pickups are not as subtle, imo. Likewise, if you play with a pick and really dig into the string it tends to undermine the way a string vibrates, e.g. imagine a classical player using a plectrum heavily, etc. That's not to say one way is right or wrong, just that the tone knob serves a different function depending on what type of pickups you are using.

I'm not sure I agree though, IMO the tone knobs work the same way on both humbucker or single coil guitars in that it's a quick and easy way to dial in the overall brightness of the pickup. That said, as a rock/metal player I really don't find much of a use for the tone knob as I'm playing primarily heavily overdriven or distorted tones and keeping the tone knob up to 10 gets me the sound I'm looking for. I also find for almost everything I do, playing with a pick as light as possible really helps too, I rarely dig into the strings hard unless I'm trying to really emphasize just a few notes or going for a pinch harmonic. What do I set it to when I'm juts fingerpicking?
You probably don't need to use the tone knob at all for fingerpicking but I'd suggest starting with it turned to 10 and having no effect on the sound and then go from there. If the attack seems a bit bright or harsh try rolling it back slightly and if it's still too bright maybe roll it back more. Finger picking on electric isn't as common as it is on acoustic guitar so it's hard for me to give any other suggestions without hearing exactly what style you're playing. When I do any plucking with my fingers on electric it's hybrid picking so I use the fleshy parts of my fingers to pluck the strings and not my nails. I don't have any problem with it sounding harsh so there's no need to use the tone knob for what I do. Hope that helps, good luck!

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with them, but just from googling it they look like a reasonable budget beginner guitar. There's nothing wrong with that, it'll get you started on the guitar.
Just keep in mind you'll outgrow the instrument sooner than if you bought something like a Donner full sized guitar (here's a link to a review I made recently) I was blown away by how nice the Donner played and sounded and only costs $110. That would be my advice for you.

I find rolling the guitar tone knob off ruins your guitar's overall tone and makes it muddy. If I need less brightness that is better done on the amps tone knob which will keep your guitar overall tone intact.

Neck pickup and tone knob are just there to boost my fundamental so I can tune quicker. I play hardcore punk so I have literally no other use for it. I might do more with it if I had more talent, but that would be a lot of effort.

@@aminorerror Try it. Roll the tone right off and switch to the neck and the fundamental gets clearer, the tuner needle / readout wobbles less and tuning is a bit faster! Super useful if you need to drop tube mid set but don't want to swap guitars.

Are those frets off to the side?
This guitar is a multi scale instrument, what that means is the neck is longer on the bass strings (strings 6,5,4) and shorter on the top strings (strings 3,2,1). That's why they look weird and angled. The advantage of this is there's more tension on the low strings so they play nicer, and stay in tune if you're going to drop tune it but the high strings stay at their normal tension. That's just another design choice on this guitar, it's headless to save weight and eliminate neck dive which can become a problem on extended range (7, 8 or 9 string) guitars.

On my single coil guitar when I turn my tone knob all the way down and use high gains it removes the terrible humming sound almost like a humbucker, is that normal with most tone controls?
The tone knob is rolling off or removing all of the high frequencies from your signal, so it's harder to hear the 60 cycle hum that single coils put off. The hum is still there, and by rolling the tone knob back like that you'll have closer to 'the woman' tone that I described that Eric Clapton was famous for.
The problem is that a tone like that won't be very articulate and prob isn't the sound you're looking for. That will work for for now, but I'd recommend eventually investing in a guitar with at least a humbucker in the bridge if you're planning on playing with a high gain tone often. 60 cycle hum is just part of the trade off of playing with single coil pickups. It is possible to buy single coils that will cancel the 60 cycle hum but you'll loose a bit of the sweetness that makes single coils so great.

That means that you've got tone knobs for specific pickups, instead of just one like I had on this guitar.
If you've got a Les Paul style guitar, then it's probably one tone knob for each of your pickups. If you've got a Stratocaster style guitar then it's one tone knob for the neck and middle pickups and the bridge pickup has no tone knob control at all. The reason for that is because the bridge pickup is designed to be a bright, clear and focused sound and the tone knob removes that. Best of luck!

Thanks for watching, yes that's basically what it does although the tone knob works the same between left and righty players. Try using a bright clean tone and experiment rolling it back slightly to hear how it shapes the attack of the pick to hear the nuances between just all the way up or all the way off. Best of luck!
It's actually not true. The tone knob is in parallel, and so even at maximum does reduce the brightness a bit. Now it's in series with a capacitor so only the very highs are affected, but still it's going right to the ground.
And this is why tone controls are different in different guitars. Humbuckers use 500k pots, single coils 250, and a p90 can use either. The jazz Master uses one meg.
If you get a sufficiently warm pickup you can delete the tone control and get the pure sound of the pickup and it still sounds great.
Tone controls usually sound bad, But a treble bleed circuit will help.
Or, if you are using lots of distortion or a processed sound, And especially on the bridge pickup It could be used to change the tone without bringing in a muffled effect.
There are some real active tone circuits that they put in guitars, But don't have the same issues with the passive controls your guitar has, but it is hard to find them and they're not very popular for some reason.
While you're technically correct, this video is aimed at total beginners and for the sake of simplicity there was no reason to go into all of that detail. Thanks for watching.

First, most Stat's don't have a tone knob for your bridge pickup (and that's the pickup most players use for distorted tones in punk and rock). Usually there's a tone knob for the neck and middle pickup and not the bridge, although your guitar might be different.
I'd recommend starting with adjusting the pedal, that way when you're going from a clean tone to a distorted tone you can just switch on the pedal. You could also try adjusting the amp too, anytime you're adding equipment to your signal chain it adds some complexity that'll take some time to explore and figure out. Depending on the distortion pedal you've got you'll have more or less tonal options from it.
Another solution might be to dial up a channel with some slight drive on the amp it's self and use your volume knob to get a cleaner tone if you need it and then dial in the distortion pedal with a more conservative setting to kick the amp into higher drive. Usually for punk especially you don't need a perfectly clean tone anyway.

Why has the strat 2 of them?
Assuming the strat is a three pickup single coil model, strat's have separate tone knobs for the neck and middle pickups and the bridge pickup has no tone knob. It's like so that the neck and middle can be setup for different tone changes with a flick of the selector switch and the bridge pickup is designed to be bright and clear which is why it doesn't have anything wired to it. Hope that makes sense, I'll be making some new videos that are aimed directly at a Strat in the future!

That's a solid mod, I've gotten rid of the tone knob on two of guitars also. It is nice having one though if you're going to be using the guitar in a few different genres, having that quick flexibility to control the brightness in a jam shesh in jazz, fusion, blues or funk can be clutch. I wouldn't describe it as high bass, you don't want/need to boost the bass control on your amp to get the 'woman tone' (idk why he called it that lol). It is a very dark guitar tone that has all of the top end of the guitar signal removed by using the tone knob or a wah pedal.
My 2 tone knobs don't even change anything...
You could have a strat like setup where each tone knob only works with a specific pickup so you might not be on the correct pickup when using the tone knob. They could also be broken, you might want to take your guitar to a local shop to have someone take a look at it, there's not too much I can do to help without having the guitar physically in my hands. Well, they could be broken. Or if you have a Strat, the bridge doesn't have a tone knob, just the neck and middle pickups.
Try a clean tone and turn them all the way to 0, play something and then turn then up to 10 and play again.
If they aren't broken you'll def hear a difference. Watch my video as I go thru the different settings and see if you can hear the difference and then try your guitar.

I'm pretty sure they work, but I don't notice anything, it's like with the selector switches, I didn't notice anything while switching between treble and rythm, and the treble was like turning it off untill I decided to get a pedal, that's when I noticed the difference, after that it was clear, but I still can't figure out the time knobs. What pedal did you buy? There's a big difference between pickups but you might just not know what to be listening for. Like all things in music, it might seem subtle at first but they change the tonal characteristics of your guitar a lot once you hear them. Try all the way to 0 and to 10 and back again a bunch and you'll notice a difference. Make sure you're adjusting the tone knob that goes to the pickup you're using.
@@aminorerror I just did that and it help. I wasn't listening to the right stuff and I noticed that the tone makes the sound "warmer" or "colder", that's the best I can describe it.
Nice, glad you can hear how it's changing your tone now! It can be very subtle, like I mention in the video, using it to soften your pick attack is a great musical use for it. More extreme settings work great to make your guitar sound like your playing jazz, or with distortion you can get Eric Clapton's 'Woman Tone' sound. Best of luck!

Sounds like you have a Fender Strat setup, the first tone knob usually controls the neck pickup and the second one controls the middle pickup and the bridge doesn't have any tone knob control because it's supposed to be bright. Good luck!

They make "No load" knobs for this reason but a complete tone knob removal is the easiest way to understand what it does to your guitar signal which is destroy it. if you look at a schematic you see that the tone pot is being used as a variable resistor in series with a capacitor. The problem with this is there is still a tiny bit of high end being bled off with the tone knob all the way up. If you want your full bright tone this needs to be removed. If you want to keep it as an option you can either add a bypass toggle or a cleaner option is a tone pot with a push/pull switch wired to take itself out of the ckt.
Wes, you're completely missing the point of my video. This video is designed for extreme beginner guitar players who just got a guitar and show them some great musical examples of how you can use the tone knob. While you're *technically* correct that there's a load still placed on the signal, it's subtle at absolute best.
My problem is your suggestion that all players need to modify their guitars and remove the tone knob all together is ridiculous. The amount of tonal change a standard tone knob puts on the instrument is only going to be noticed when analyzing the frequency response in a computer.
I have a guitar that has no tone knob on it already by the way. The difference before and after was basically unnoticeable.
@@aminorerror I have a terrible ear and I can notice the difference, especially when using single coils with a lot of high end. You don't have to ditch the tone knob completely, you can swap it for one of those no load tone knobs made for this very purpose. If your cap is a.022uf vs a .047uf or something you may not notice it as much.
