      @@ej11481 The problem with Jackie Aprile is that he wanted to honor his father in a sense by becoming like him, but he was a new generation Italian kid who in his youth only saw the good things of his father at home but not the bad side, wich is also why he was clumsy in terms of decision making when it came down to keep up with the mafia live. Normally he should've got the guidance of his father or uncle but since both where dead, he was the only left. But when Tony started to guide him a bit it was too late because he was way too inexperience or basically just over his head at that age and time to join the big boys crew. Jackie should've stayed at school, get a education, find a job, marry meadow and live a normal live and it would've been all fine. he wasn't Made to be a actual mob

    • @ej11481
      @ej11481 4 роки тому +53

      @@TheStatisfiedOne I don't think Jackie Jr's issue was one of not getting the right guidance. As I was saying earlier, he was smart enough to know what he should and shouldn't have done, but he was consumed by some inner drive towards self-destruction.
      Thought it was telling that the episode in which Jackie and his pals try to rob the poker game was called Amour Fou, which is a French term describing an uncontrollable, obsessive passion. Melfi uses it in the episode to describe Gloria's behavior towards Tony, but I think it's also meant to describe Jackie Jr's spiral towards his doom. The big unanswered question is what inner demons set him on that path.

    • @TheStatisfiedOne
      @TheStatisfiedOne 4 роки тому +7

      Eric I completely agree with what you said but I think his bad decision makings lead him to that path of inner self destruction. Jackie Jr. and his friends Carlo and Dino decide to rob Eugene's poker game, after Ralphie tells them how Tony and Jackie's father gained recognition for a similar heist. So Jackie jr taught by robbing the card game he would’ve get more recognition. Basically the guidance of Ralphie worked bad to Jackie Jr. that’s also why tony blamed ralphie for that and said to him that he should get rid of Jackie or else he will get the heat from others for not doing so. Jackie Jr. was a 20 year old guy with the brains of a 15 year old, he was basically a good/normal guy trying to be bad to fit into the maffia just like his father was, and after bad decisions he went downhill

If shots weren't fired maybe Tony wouldn't accept him and in that case he would get a beating and serious warning from Tony not to do that again. Tony even said Jackie Jr when he was begging for mercy and saying that Tony robbed a card game too - "try to find a difference", it meant they just picked up money and all went smoothly, Tony too wouldn't got away if he shot and killed someone there. But Jackie Jr could pursur criminal career, Chris offered him a job, Ralphie took him to money collection and they kicked an ass of the guy. If he was patient, knew his place, be respectful and thankful to Ralph and Chris for givimg him jobs he thought just he was a son and nephew of deceased boss and capo he is entitled to everythimg. He should , like Benny for example go step by step, Benny was just a low level associate when we first saw him in season 3 and at the end of the Sopranos, season 6 he was on his way to become a made man, Walden too, for killing Phil, and there were other associates who knew they have to be patient like Walden, Terey Doria, Anthomny Maffei, Dante Greco, Jason Molinaro, Little Paulie( problem with him he's too goofy but like uncle Philly said they make everyone 😂😂😂), we see in season 6, made men became Burt Gervasi who was already at least 50 years old and Gerry 'Hairdo' Torciano who was probably Chrissy's age when he was made but serious gangster even before that. It shows how in New York you have to be really valuable to become made, for example Joey Peeps and Billy Leotardo weren't even made when they died, unlike New Jersey where not much bright crew members with addiction and unstable character became captains, llke Chrissy, Vito, who is a fag was captain too, Carlo was stupid enough to kill New York captain Fat Dom Gamiello and they didn"t at that time know if he said to Phil or Butchie or Gerry or any other guy from NY that he is gonna go to Satriale "breaking bones about Vito there" , if they knew they would be wiped out totally , in New York guys like Benny or Little Paulie wouldn't never be considered for made men and Chris too, who without Tony protection would be dead without any serious consideration that they will make him made.

    To Tony, Christopher was nothing more than a helping hand in his criminal enterprise! Someone who he could use to do the dirty work but never respected! Just like hooahs and criminal partners, their worth would expire at some stage and he would discard them!
    Jackie though was different! The early conversations suggested that Tony deep down knew Jackie would end up on the wrong path but seemed to genuinely want to help him and warn him from messing his life up! And then once he began following his uncle around, it was all downhill from there!

      Tony did that because he knew the exact path and dealings that Jackie was getting himself involved with, and was trying to stop him from becoming just another thug. At the end he caught the man with a gun and about to fuck a stripper...Tony knows. Yes it's hypocritical but a lot of youths need that type of tough love to stop them from fucking up.

    He just didn't want to listen and obviously didn't have the mentality for such harmful way of _living._
    A cautionary tale...
