Not going to do tyranid characters? doom of malantai? red terror? not going to tell dk the story behind deathleaper? some other named hivetyrants? plz its all we have
I remember the story about deathleaper terrorising planet governor. For a few weeks it came to his office, sliced everyone who was protecting him, stared at a guy for full night and then faded away. This simple little trolling creature was committing every single day drove governor insane and later to a suicide
My favorite bit of lore about the venomthropes: The Battle of Hesp. Some Death Guard and Nids decided to try to out-poison each other on a planet. It ends up so horrifyingly toxic that nothing can survive on the planet (including the Nids and Death Guard) and it just get turned into goop. The Nids assume that means they won, and one of the bioships tries to start drinking the goop that's left of the planet. Its probiscis begins to melt as soon as it tries, and the other bioships nearby open fire on it to destroy it entirely. Yeah, when Nids and Death Guard decide to have a pissing contest over who can poison better they call it a draw, because it is somehow too toxic for either one of them.
There's a great passage in Helsreach where two Black Templars find an ork pinned down by debris, unable to move or fight. The Templars note how in all their time batling the orkz this is the one instance they've ever seen an ork experience pain and fear, unable to fight on, unable to fulfill his purpose and prove his worth. On the other hand, that boy fighting the nids is having the time of his life.
In reality, that dude would be doing pretty well. He'd be disappointed by the fact that he didn't die in an explosion, but he'd go down chewing them back. Remember, there's nothing my little green Boyz love more than a Good Foight.
The Tyranid Warrior isn't really gripping the gun with his hands. The Warrior is (at least) one bug, the gun is another bug, and the Warrior is connected to the gun through some tubes and sinews, not fingers on hands.

With the mention of warrior's being the Tyranids space marine equivalent, I'm surprised you guys didn't mention the Actual space marine equivalent, Tyrant Guard who were made with space marine DNA.
I believe the 4th edition nid codex allowed you to customize a gaunt, just starting with a very basic statline and attaching more stuff to them, to create a custom profile! Really cool if you liked to make conversions.
The nid codex in play during 4th let you do that with basically every bug. You didn't so much buy a unit as you did a body type, and then you chose its weapons and extras.
At some point in the lore, weren't the Zoanthrope and co based on Eldar DNA, hence why one can do Big Brain Bullets, and one can make Druhkari level poisons

Wonders if it’s still canon that some of the Tyranid Biomorphs are based on the DNA of certain factions in 40k… Like how Zoanthropes were made using Eldar’s DNA or the Hiveguards were created using Space Marines’ DNA …. The new Biovore may have lost their connections to Orks I guess….
I'd guess that at this point it's all so mixed up and amalgamated that there's not really a clear origin species anymore, it's all come together in various weird ways
@burningbronze7555 not sure what current lore is, but old lore was Tyranids created the squigs with Ork DNA. Orks heard about this and got passed, so they busted into a Hive ship and stole the ork based creatures.
Tyranids just want hugs. My Zonethropes love to float up to terminators and give them physic hugs, my Carnifexes hug tanks, and my gaunts love to dogpile everything that moves. I have had to roll for 90 over hugs in a single assault. Good times.

Note to self, do NOT google Neurolictor until the codex is out Also, I assume there'll be a follow up episode for the big bugs, like the Carnifex, the Hive Crones or the Hierodules. The Scything Hierodule is one of my fav Tyranid minis, it's basically a Tyranid T-rex, only with huge scything talons instead of tiny little T-rex arms.
One funny tabletop thing about Genestealers is in some editions the statline for Tyranid-Genestealers were just straight up worse that Cult-Genestealers for some reason. Like no buffs or nerfs in different areas Cult-Genestealers just had stats that were straight up better than the Tyranid version like their WS or saves I believe. Only plausible explanation for this is cultists are just good parents making their Genestealer kids eat their veggies and go to bed early for school in the morning.
GSCs are also a fairly horde-y faction so their 5th generation, the purestrains, have to fill the niche of elite infantry since the only things bigger than them are abominants and the broodlord.

Shy actually got the old Biovore and Pyrovore mixed up. The new model fits the Biovore's described combat role really well, a living mortar/artillery gun so the lumbering squat spider look fits it, looks like it can dig its legs in well to brace for the recoil. The Pyrovore redesign I'm not as much of a fan of, in lore they are described as ravenously eating everything in front of them (including rocks and chunks of metal) and having a REALLY vigorous digestive system that produces flammable gas as a byproduct, which it expels through the flamethrower growth on its back, so the issue with the new Pyrovore is it looks EXACTLY the same as the Biovore except for the gun, it really should have a drooling, agape toothed maw, some big gnarly foreclaws and a misshapen stomach. Biovores I'll probably get a couple but the Pyrovore I will either be kitbashing or 3D printing my own.

Synapse creatures are like cell towers, you need them close to give instructions to the little bugs. Also if you get to close to a Synapse creature it will melt your face off.
while the hormagaunt looks and seems like just a gaunt type it is actually quite far removed from the normal gungaunt types for example the hormagaunts lack a digestive tract a normal gaunt has very low carb use and is easy to refill allowing them to patrol the ship hallwayveins but a hormagaunt burns calories like mad, so the hive mind found a way to solve it by making it so it cant eat, it will do its killing now, it also carrys with it the eggs for the next generation so that when it dies in a pile of corpses the eggs can hatch, the larva eat the corpses and grow up to be the next wave of hormagaunts everything unneeded is stripped from these creatures to make them faster and killier distantly related to gaunts, but a lot more distant then it seems by just looking at them, whats under the hood is just all different
My favorite piece of Tyranid lore is the Magos Biologus that treated ravener’s like they were T-Rexes and said their movement was based on sight. The force he was with and him paid dearly for that assumption
For the face hugger thing? Its seems very similar to the red leaf type creaters on catachan that drug the human host and use the host to spread seed/offspring

I really liked the old pyro/biovore model cuz they were derived from Orkoid DNA and basically weaponized their spores!
22:58 HOLY SHIT SAME
It was mainly the scene where a character slowly sinks into a massive swarm of beetles. Thats the only thing i remember from the movie. After 10 fucking years
No DK is right! He was thinking the face hugger rip off was similar to the towel think from the Catachan episode! 😂
Venom Cannon Tyranid Warrior vs. Ork Bile-Squig Launcha. I want this.
Also, "Deep Throping". DK, you are a treasure.
"We've restocked our 'Music of the Third' mats! Head on-"
Me: immediately pauses video and goes to store
I remember how quick that one slipped through my fingers
Synapse creatures are like cell towers, you need them close to give instructions to the little bugs. Also if you get to close to a Synapse creature it will melt your face off.
43:25 So it's kinda like a fly. It prefers to digest its food *before* eating it.
Synapse Creature: oh hell yeah I'm a big living Wi-Fi router, my life rocks
44:12 that just looks like a Phyrexian Swarmlord from Magic The Gathering
DK lore and game balance are never intertwined.
Sons of Malice could be a fun episode to just randomly throw in if they haven’t talked about them yet. If they have please tell me which episode.
Tyranid warriors are one of my favorite models
35:11 thats the tyranid prime that does it they do look simlar
I'd like to see an episode of them reviewing kit-bashing and 3d printed models like doge vandire
there was an episode of Deadwood that used hormagaunt in a sentence, and it made me smile.
I never knew I needed a tyranid pokerap
Hey Bricky how much liquor do you need for one recording session with Dk and Shy? I'm getting concerned for your liver😂
trayzan when the pokerap kicks in
while the hormagaunt looks and seems like just a gaunt type
it is actually quite far removed from the normal gungaunt types
for example the hormagaunts lack a digestive tract
a normal gaunt has very low carb use and is easy to refill allowing them to patrol the ship hallwayveins
but a hormagaunt burns calories like mad, so the hive mind found a way to solve it by making it so it cant eat, it will do its killing now, it also carrys with it the eggs for the next generation so that when it dies in a pile of corpses the eggs can hatch, the larva eat the corpses and grow up to be the next wave of hormagaunts
everything unneeded is stripped from these creatures to make them faster and killier
distantly related to gaunts, but a lot more distant then it seems by just looking at them, whats under the hood is just all different
My favorite piece of Tyranid lore is the Magos Biologus that treated ravener’s like they were T-Rexes and said their movement was based on sight. The force he was with and him paid dearly for that assumption
Great video as always! I hope one day you talk about Warhammer videogames and TTRPG.
Love seeing more Tyranid episodes
For the face hugger thing? Its seems very similar to the red leaf type creaters on catachan that drug the human host and use the host to spread seed/offspring
I think the Lictor was in one of the Sisters books I read. They did a good job of making the thing creepy as hell.
Fun fact, Star Craft was supposed to be a Warhammer 40k game
that Neurolictussy so good it turned me into a genestealer
Ayo 🧐
stop
apart from the next episode covering the large ones, I'd hope for potentially another episode of all the named tyranids where you could maybe go into more detail about them. Parasite of Mortex, Doom of Malan'Tai (dead eldar gotta be great), Old One-Eye, Deathleaper
