      @@lennytrepanier3450 I was thinking about that when the news said Russian soldiers were protesting about being involved, I don't know if it's true or propaganda. I think if it were true Putin would have them shot or sent to Siberia. Dissention in the ranks has never been a thing Russia was soft on.
      I do agree with you though, if a countries citizens said no we've had enough and all refused to fight maybe we would be happier. I don't think it ever happen though. Most species are endowed with the killer instinct to survive, add to that the need to have what the other person has and the technology to achieve it and you have a recipe for disaster.

      My grandparents gave me a transistor radio when I was little and they always made sure I had new batteries. That thing was STUCK to my ear all day long. This song and thousands of others came through that tiny speaker. On my school bus I had to sit by the window so the signal could get through. Motown especially, then. And, of course, "the eve of destruction".

    I have the pleasure of calling Barry and his wife Mari as friends of me and my wife. One weekend we went lobstering off the Maine coast together before his concert in Portland. I honestly believe he is THE most underrated man in his profession. It kills me to see him in concert, giving his all, to about two dozen people. Here's a man who has written hundreds of songs and given them away to other artists and he gets no credit. Eve of Destruction is his most recognizable but one of his most reviled songs. He told me it should never had to be written and he hated taking royalties for it, but a man has to live. He made some good money, you know where it all went? He paid for his children and grandchildren's housing and education. I can say without reservation he's high on my list of the best men I've ever known.

      P.F.Sloan did write this,but with no takers wanting to record it, Barry recorded it and made it his own. Not to his benefit,though,while it is perhaps one of the greatest protest songs of it's time,it was reviled at the time. This is NOT my take on it. Barry and this song is iconic. Period.

    My dad and I were having one our late night talks and I was telling him, I hate the world we're in and how I stopped having hope with humanity a long time ago. My dad told me, "You know, when I was a kid, we were so terrified of the wars going on. The cold war had even the strongest and scariest bully, shaking in his boots. The Vietnam war killed many of my friends, and I was almost drafted, my number was called. The war was over and I can't tell you how long I've had survior's guilt. When you kids were born, I cried happy tears because I knew you wouldn't have to go through the fear I did growing up. The world has always been a bad place, baby. Don't go thinking it turned bad. There has always been evil".

I also think that Putin is just flexing this muscle because he's backed himself into a corner and doesn't know what to do. He knows damn well if he launches even a single nuke, it's the end of his country and the world.

    Extraordinarily prophetic. I am proud of my generation and I am proud I was called a "Freak" and a "dirty hippie" and a "DopeHead" just because I enjoyed an occasional joint (and still do) of course I was none of those biased and hateful labels of the 60's. I was and I am "Anti-Establishment" and a true believer of "Power to the People" This song, like many others from my era was meant as a warning to the powers-that-be and to the people who would not listen to our pleas for peace but sadly, like everything else we tried to convey to the world, it was ignored and written off as the drug induced ramblings of just another DopeHead. Today, 50 something years later this "DopeHead Freak" has a master's degree in social psychology from the university of TX, has 2 Adult daughters, 4 grandkids, 1 great grandkid, a great job teaching great young adults. And I still smoke at least 3 joints a day as I sit and ponder the insanity that surrounds me.

      I really respect that mindset. There's nothing "freak" about you, and if there is, then I'm guilty of it too. I'm only 20 but I love this song and its message, because it rings true both back then and now, and certainly will for a long time to come.

    • @James-dx8qb
      @James-dx8qb 3 роки тому

      What's truly depressing is that there is no hope of the future being any better. We leap from one potential disaster to the next with the same 'ol bullshit system in place. Why would you not expect to still be depressed in the 2020s when we still have the same 'ol corrupt systems of government and finance running this shit show?
      If you want radical change, then seek to radically change the fundamentals underpinning this nonsense. Worldwide.
      NOTHING is ever going to change, really, until our governments do what the people as a whole actually want them to do. For too long now, the facade of personal freedom has come a distant 2nd to maintaining the authority of a dictatorial government.
      Can you imagine a world where there are no wars, injustices, corruption? Well, if you can, it MUST necessarily be a world in which our politicians become our speakers, not our masters.
