    Thank you for the compare/contrast between both games! I was actually wanting more info on the sandstorm rondel and this video is perfect! I also appreciate knowing that the 2019 game is more aimed at hardcore gamers and the 2021 game is better for casual gamers.

    I think adding hidden objective cards in the place of bribing and alliances would be interesting. Something along the lines of “if your opponent (could even be specific to another faction in the game) is in x location, collects x spice, revives x forces, etc then you gain x spice from the bank or that player or you get x market cards ignoring the normal limit. I feel like it could make interactions a bit more exciting.

    Really nice videos!
    I've just started binge watching all these interesting insights into the design of the Dune games.
    Just today, I put together a blended ruleset for using the GF9 components but with healthy injections of Dune Conquest. You did a great job streamlining classic Dune, and actually, I think most of the changes are actually great improvements!
    The movement system is infinitely better. Drawing cards isn't nearly as bad as it might sound and saves a ton of time. Playing to 5 rounds and having spice determine the winner is also way better than classic Dune rules (which can drag horribly at even 10 rounds). The only gripe I have with Dune Conquest is actually the art style and a few small elements like lacking Ornithopters, not starting the Harkonnen and Atreides on the board, and limited Atreides prescience. I'd also suggest allowing players to discard cards during the card collection phase, since in a 5-turn game being forced to fight to get rid of a worthless card is rather punishing.
    Anyway, all that to say that if anyone is willing to go through the two rule sets and pick and choose the rules they like, they can really modify this game to suit them. In my case, it was to borrow a lot of the streamlining from Dune Conquest but apply it to the GF9 Copy (a few new player aids is enough to cover most of what you need). I love the fact that Dune Conquest zips along at around a reliable 2 hour-length. For me this strikes the right balance between meaty decisions and not overstaying its welcome. Great job making classic Dune more accessible to new demographics and possibly a new generation! :)

    Just bought this over Dune Imperium as I already have Arnak and there are similarities across the two. I'm sure eventually I'll get it though, but for now I wanted a game that could offer something different. But at the end of your vid the talk of play testing a possible expansion really excited me and I really hope that you are able to make alliances possible and bring some interplay like that into the game.

    After watching this video I ordered the Dune Conquest. My play group didn't like the classic Dune that much, I feel like it's a game for people who either are big Dune fans or like heavy games (or at least discussion heavy games) and they are neither

    Any update on an expansion when the new film comes out? It would be nice to round out the factions! Awesome job on streamlining the game by the way, I played it for the first time today and it was a breeze to learn and teach.

      There’s an excellent chance. Maybe not immediately but hopefully close. Maybe. Can’t technically say, but if I were a betting man…

    Hey man! I just played Conquest for the first time. Are you supposed to discard the traitors you reveal like in the Classic game, or no? Asking because the Harkonnen ability is very powerful if you don't discard but jf you do discard then their battke ability means they'd just be looking at rhe top traitor card each time and putting it on bottom.

    • @jackredathewarp
      @jackredathewarp  Рік тому +1

      You do not discard.

      @@darkportents9835 they don’t have as many traitors, but they are still formidable- which is why it’s their only advantage. Choosing a safe leader instead of a traitor is a good ploy against them, especially since you can revive them each turn.

    I highly consider getting this version, but I I'm afraid that if I alternate playing them, I'll then mix up rules from both versions... Is that a real possibility?

    In the future will Movie Dune have a different art style (like a different version I mean (original illustrations instead of the movie stills)? I'm interested in the game but I don't really like the art /:

      Yeah same. I loved the movie, but the art of this new game is borderline kitch in terms of graphic design, especially the back of the cards with the stills badly cutout, and with a ton of uncontrolled grading and tints. (And I definitly don't want to see the baron at the back of EVERY traitor card...) :D

    Combat good! Alliances bad! So: dial down the Dune world to conflict. Hate good! Cooperation (love) bad (takes too long)! Excellent mass market strategy.
