120k is a lot.... Without the land?
Awesome, great, but I am wondering about the wind and cold Winters in the country with no protection around. I would like to have access to a little piece of land in a central area of Calgary where I could put a tiny house, but like you say, we have few options here in Alberta. It is complicated. The government and municipalities should recognize tiny houses as the primary house of families who want a different lifestyle and do not want to spend 400,000$ on a house, but live simply.
He does a home tour of all the features in his home that make it very energy efficient on youtube. It is well planned.
I live in Calgary and would like to learn more. Could you direct me where to start?
any more info on the Solar Hot Water?
How do I contact this builder?
$120 grand!! What!?
You know a basic garage package starts at about $7000CAD..?
Where?
@@DG-pj9wo -RONA, I believe is where I got my quote.
Seems now that You blabbed to the world, now the visit from code enforcers, next episode...
I like the movement. But 120k?
Yeah. Kind of defeats the purpose a tad. You should be able to get 2 tiny homes for that much. Some places, maybe even 3.
On a separate note, the tiny home movement is already huge according to the numbers on the web, but as with anything drastic, it will take a few years for the codes to crack and the silly enforcement of these expired codes (minimum wall thickness, minimum room size for example) to cease. At the end of the day it's pure economics that are driving the movement. For every tree hugging, off the grid tiny home owner, there are thousands who are looking into it for the simple economic reason. Most report a 50-70% decrease in cost of living! The land use laws that prevent more widespread use of tiny homes are from the 1940's and are only upheld today to artificially sustain the unrealistic home prices and to continue the artificial demand for mortgages, furniture and renovations.
It's evident it wasn't a DIY, he also mentions higher quality materials were used, did you also notice his solar power setup? That's around 35k+ for top of the line.
Better than 425k for a 1200sf house!
