I guess I’m just that dumb…link doesn’t take me to the watch and can’t find it on the website. Either I missed out or am so dumb I don’t deserve it anyway.
I'm with you. Have a ton of microbrands and I think Maen is a step above the rest in terms of design and quality. The Manhattan 37 looks like the most premium watch in my collection which includes others 4x the price.
I had a Maen watch and it arrived broken. I shipped it back, then they said that it was completely fine. They shipped it back and it was still broken. (Would stop ticking randomly) a watchmaker took it apart and said a screw in the movement was loose and bouncing around inside. Maen’s customer service sucks.
Had a look. It's actually 2250€. That's a lot more than advertised here and quite expensive for what is basically just a Sellita powered copy of a famous watch. Maen is not the most fortunate name for a brand either. That being said, probably whatever design you come up with these days it will look like something that was made in the past so you might as well copy the most coveted ones. And since not many watch companies blatantly copy that watch, it's unique on the market, I guess, without being original. I'm quite a huge fan of yours and I hope for bigger and better things in the future.
First of all, congrats on your next achievement! This is a good looking watch overall. However, it doesn't speak to me. It's a little bit of everything - Tag Heuer lugs shape, Omega Speedmasterish hands, a bit of Tudor on the bezel, a hint of Rolex Daytona on the dial and the steel bracelet reminds me of ... well, you know it. It's all finished by a Chinese style brand name (it's not that Chinese can't do quality things) that makes it even harder to justify the price. The build quality, I don't know, I don't own one so can't assess. Still, I hope it'll find its buyer.
I do like this watch. I’m happy for the people who managed to get a Daytona before the explosion. I’m not willing to pay that price now, so it’s looks like Omega Speedmaster, Mean or Baltic. One of theses watches will end up on my wrist. Thanks Andrew. More Tom please 😊
Back when my dad was in West Point in the 70's there was a loooong waiting list for the Daytona due to the amount of cadets wanting one, so he purchased a Speedy which was readily available for around $500 as he needed a chrono, long story short he's still kicking himself for not getting on the list as some of his buddies got them 2+ weeks after ordering because a lot of people cancelled, the price was $999 and the full gold was around $2,500 (to be fair a Ferrari Dino was $12K which he also passed and purchased a Trans Am for $5.5K instead, Italian car part availability in our country was ZERO so it would've been a nightmare to maintain).
Nice work Andrew. You’re right; it’s not terrible, and you should be proud. I’m just warming up to smaller watches, as I tend to prefer 40-42 mm for my 7.25 inch wrists. But if I must be honest, both Maen and you are pushing me to at least try this one.
Perhaps this is just me, but I have been contemplating pre-ordering the Skymaster for a while, going back and forth, but have decided against it because of the straps that they offer with the watch. Both their Jubilee and 5 link design simply clash with the body and lug design. I can't fully put my finger on why though. Of course, the band can be swapped after the fact, but considering the price, I'd have prefered maybe one more metal strap design that is more fitting than the existing options. Will wait and see whether they address this in a future drop or whether I'll be able to get a good (pre-owned) offer on one.
Ohhh .. super excited. I have a Maen Manhattan (which I somehow stumbled upon outside of your channel) which I love. I now really want to add this Skymaster to my collection.
I dig it! Need to see more info about the watch, but Maen has a good reputation for doing an admirable job. I like the brown. Reminds me of Steve McQueen’s custom Mini.
About the same as on the Daytona ... but the stalks are too skinny. It does detract from the overall look of the thing. I can't argue with the people who order it, but I'd rather save up my pennies (OK, dimes) for a pre-owned Speedmaster. You can find them for $3k-$4k if you hunt around.
I wanted to buy Maen back in 2021 but after reading a lot of negative reviews from people that got it I backed up. Dont know how quaily is now days but that first and second batch where super bad. Their costumer support was also bad.
I feel blessed to have seen such an accomplishment. I mean, you got to have something special to achieve a goal like this and I do believe that deep down somewhere, you were quite sure it would happen some day. I am only one of the others that found a good place where to hear nice stories about horology and see some watches in really high detail. You were and are part of my path to learn new skills by becoming an hobbyist watchmaker, on my way to make my own watches just for myself. You're welcome to your opinion but I genuinely don't see the Maen watch as being a great value prospect. Nor a particularly accurate "homage". Certainly not the "Bargain" of the clickbait title. Other "Paul Newman" homage watches exist at a far more reasonable price point
@ThePedroDB have you held a Maen watch in the metal? The finishing on the watch is on par with watches 4x it's price. It's a beautiful watch but I wish it came in a 40mm version.
At the moment they are specialised in 36 to 38 mm watches.
It looks really smart, but, are those markers lined up with the chapter ring. I’m not sure they are.
She's a beauty, for sure. This is one of the least cluttered chronograph dials I've ever seen.
