The worst sliding pads I have used... but lighter than ever before! CCM Eflex 4 Pad Review

  • I am sorry this is basically the longest video I have done for a review... I go over a LOT here.
    While making huge improvements in weight savings... the CCM Eflex 4 are the worst sliding pads I have used. The weight savings are seriously impressive considering CCM managed to make a stiff core in the pad as well.
    I didn't use Speed Skin because I found it sticks to the ice when I had it on my Premier 2 pads, so I wanted to see if weave would make a difference.
    They do one thing well, but it isn't enough for me to really recommend them unless you LOVE CCM and Eflex pads.
    Check out the reviews of the other gear in the CCM Eflex 4 line:

    Check out this video on why CCM goalie is disappointing as a whole and why I think they are afraid to innovate or change their designs which ends up with products lagging behind the competition.

    went Eflex4 because I was a huge fan of the new core in the pads when I first saw them in person. Went full speedskin. Sold them after 10 or so uses and went back to GenIVs. So it's DEFINITELY not just your experience with them.

    Yea I hate the feel of the sliding with my speed skin, I am looking to go back to Bauer. Glove is also tough as hell to break in.

      I actually have a video on how to break in the Eflex 4 glove. It's so awesome once you do.

    I know this vid is old...but I just tried my friend's EFlex4's (weave sliding surface) last night and pretty much agree with you on most of your points. The pads were very light. Very comparable to my Warrior RGT pads. The weave slid well at the start of the game, but got worse as the ice got rougher. Second, I wear my RGT pads pretty loose (with the calf strap not connected to the calf landing). I tried to strap Eflex4's just as loose, and had a puck slide under my left pad when I was convinced I had the ice sealed but maybe lifted my left knee very slightly. I've made this save many times on my RGT's over the last 3 years. I think I had the professor strap too tight. Lastly, not sure why, but my legs felt more tired near the end of the game. Weird cuz the pads are so light. Maybe if I had a few more games with them, I'd be able to dial down the strapping.

      I understand the speed skin isn’t the best sliding surface, but would you recommend the weave over the speedskin or the sliding surface? I have eflex 3s rn and the speedskin has worn off on the edge of the knee stack. I dont want that to happen again if I get the new eflex 5s.

      @@sglc7100 Sorry, I can't speak of the longevity because I've only used speedskin on a demo set of Eflex3's and also just borrowed my friend's EFlex4 weave. I can only say that on EFlex4's I borrowed, there were no signs of the weave wearing off on the knee landing surface. My old pads were Simmons weave that I used for 6 years...and also no signs of weave wearing off on the landing surface.

    If you want the soft flexible pad the only pad to get is custom order Ve8 carbon with their quick slide. Bauer 1x/2x are best pads imo

    • @HockeyReviews
      @HockeyReviews  5 років тому +2

      CCM is the only pad with a super soft face and stiff core though. So they get props for that

    I've never been a CCM fan. I think with mods I'll be super happy with my Passau's. If I had the $$ I would have just gotten the SLR's although your Bauers look like an improvement over the 2s (which I liked but also glad I didn't buy)

    Don’t know how you’re pads are doing now but I’ve had 2 pairs of CCMs first ef3 and my current the revolution 597 and the speedskin on the knee block, calf, and boot area all fell off and started to peel after a season to a season and a half which didn’t help the fact that they already don’t slide well. Yet I find myself buying the axis now which hopefully won’t happen again. I wanted the g5 since they looked like they slide really well and won’t have that issue but they’re too loose so I just went back to ccm since I’m comfortable with them

    • @HockeyReviews
      @HockeyReviews  4 роки тому

      I got rid of these pretty quick as I hated how they slid. Sorry to hear you had issues with the Speedskin peeling... I am going to hazard a guess and say I don't think that will change with Axis unfortunately. The flaking of the Jenpro has happened for a while with CCM gear all the way back to the Reebok P4 days.

    I’m planning on getting EFLEX 4’s and I’m wondering how they fit in comparison to other pads. (I am 5’’11) I would go in stores to try on but they are all closed due to the virus. Maybe based on your height and your eflex 4 size i could compare ?

    In my opinion one shouldnt label the ef4s as bad sliding if you are not using a stock sliding surface, being speedskin. Most people out there get stock, and will have a different feel than weave

    • @HockeyReviews
      @HockeyReviews  5 років тому +1

      Speedskin slides worse than weave and normal Jenpro in most conditions. My P2 had Speedskin on them and were the wrost sliding pads I've worn unless the conditions were perfect.
      Speedskin was used on the Eflex 100 road hockey set in 2014, the name and it's capabilities are mostly marketing. There is a reason most NHL goalies in CCM pads are using weave and it isn't material availability.

      @@HockeyReviews thanks, I have used speedskin for a couple years and have had the same issues but loved everything else about the pad so I decided to get another CCM pad. With so many complaints over the past couple years it’s crazy to me that they don’t do something new or try to fix it to please more customers and ultimately make more money.

    • @HockeyReviews
      @HockeyReviews  3 роки тому +1

      @@evanballard I totally agree. I'm hoping they try to put the UV printing on the sliding edge to improve slide, but it's disappointing that they haven't taken the feedback seriously.
      With that said, if you read the big reviewers comments, they believe Speed Skin is great so 🤷‍♂️

    Do an on ice demo of how these are the worst sliding pads and CCM fanboys/girls will decide for themselves whether it's your technique or the pads themselves.

  • @hopecholo7475
    @hopecholo7475 5 років тому +3

    You lost all credibility at the 28 second mark when you said it’s a stiff pad. It’s actually one of the softer pads on the market, dummy. Educate yourself and stop spreading false information.

    • @HockeyReviews
      @HockeyReviews  5 років тому +4

      Did you see how the pad doesn't bend when flexing it on the table and how across the thigh the pad is really stiff? That's the whole point of the DuaLiteCore, it's stiff for a solid ice seal but soft at the boot and shin.

    • @Schneebly743
      @Schneebly743 5 років тому +8

      The Eflex 4s are stiffer than the 3s. CCM says it on their website. I demoed a set last June and the thigh is pretty solid, which helps with 5 hole seal but it isn't a super soft pad anymore. So no, he doesn't lose credibility, he's actually right and CCM agrees.

      The core of the pad is really stiff, you can't bend it at all across the face. Plus, without a break the pad is still still, no break Vaughns/Warriors bend much easier.
