I would really like to thank Tristan for playing this once more and showing it to the community. 💯 Unfortunately I stopped developing this game in late 2022, everything since then were only some bugfixes and little changes to keep it playable and compatible with the fast-evolving Aoe2 DE. I am amazed that until today there are still people who find and try this. On average, 2-3 games are played per day, which is very nice for a standalone-mod that launched 5 years ago. Thank you all who played it, I really appreciate this.
A cool addition to this could be that once you have a castle you could go inside and kind of get a "Sauron eye" vision from the castle. Allowing you to get a small area of birds eye view to help with micro/macro management.
The graphics are PERFECT, this seriously looks like it could've launched alongside the actual version as a fun minigame mode. just a little more work on the gameplay side and this is a seriously fantastic mod
They had a PC game from way back in the day called Urban Assault. It was Scifi vehicle RTS combat, but the cool twist about it was you could jump into any unit at any time and control it. Ancient game but the concept was there.

Bubble gum flavored ice cream, Tristan. BTW, these heartfelt "Get out of my base! I'm not ready yet!" gave me flashbacks of when my friends and I played multiplayer RTS back in 2000
Favorite ice cream flavor is definitely chocolate chip cookie dough, and seeing those buildings go up we definitely need a re-skin on the castles so they look like big red inflatable bouncy castles.
I've been watching your content for about 7 years, with long breaks in between and never actually saw your face before. almost thought it was a different channel. when i first discovered you, i was still playing AOE 2 age of kings CD version because i had no internet and was always amazed with all the dlcs. once a graduated highschool, started to save up for a better pc. it took forever, but eventually got one right when aoe2 DE came out. been playing off and on since. Always thought your humor was great and treats the game with casual fun.
You know what would make this even better? 2v2 co-op where one player per team is in top down view and focuses on eco and the other is in first person commanding the army
This is crazy. Literally the other day watching a video of yours I thought "I wonder what happened to first person aoe and if T90 will do another video on it?" Literally wild
This is so cool. I could only dream of a first person AoE back in the day. It also looks so stressful because you don’t have the view that you’re used to! Also pistachio.
This is so cool, one of my favorite games as a kid was an FPS/RTS hybrid called Battlezone II: Combat Commander. It originally released around the same time as AOE2 and also got a remaster around the time of AOE2:DE.
The Battlezone 2 remaster is a blast, and really demonstrates how gaming stagnated - we should have had more games like that. Then of course there's also Sacrifice, the third person RTS hybrid. Basically seems like RTS hybrids suffered a lot when consoles dominated the gaming narrative.
Yeah I was thinking of BZ when I saw the green outline for the buildings in the video. 😊 I grew up with the first BZ and then caught on with BZ2 in 2006-2007:ish. Great games.
I really enjoyed this. It was pretty cool seeing a different perspective of a familiar game. I hope that they continue working on it to fix any kinks and maybe even add to the experience. I also would love to see more videos on this mode of age of empires 2.
When I played Command & Conquer: Generals as a kid I was imagining about playing it in 3D, running as commando or driving a tank. Thanks to modders, they're making the dreams of our childhood a real thing
There was a game that had the commander at top down view then everyone else played in first person. I forget what it was called but the concept was cool. But it never took off.
@@Swwatter You might be talking about "Natural Selection 2". Yeah. I found that concept was really cool and it was really a blast! To bad it felt unbalanced that the xenos were somehow overpowered (or maybe it was that the RTS pros liked to play them)

This sounds like an idea, which is similar to Savage: Battle for Newerth, where is one commander placing buildings and ordering some peasants and players, and other players are in FPS mode. Commander can also make weapon upgrades, and there are already siege weapons (ballista, catapult) in game, and various buildings that fit in Age2: armoury (upgrade new weapons), guard tower with arrows and mortar tower (count as cannon tower), and other buildings, which can count as university. In Savage1 there are 2 types resources: red stone (used to buy upgrades, make villagers and build buildings, research to new age from stronghold, which is count as town center) and god, which is used to buy weapons, equipment and class (read: also as siege weapons) as FPS players. Maybe someone should make a mod for S1, because it has already a platform...
This is brilliant. Makes me wonder why we don't see more first person RTS games like this. Would love a FPS of Empire Earth. Imagine driving tanks and bombers.
If Age of Empires 2 is combined with Mount and Blade, that would be epic. Something like you build in Age of Empires 2 style (bird-view) and battle with you're army in Mount and Blade style....
This reminds me of "Empire Earth", which came out a few years after AOE2 was originally released and had many of the same developers.
