Every off roader has experienced it at least once - You get off of the trail, only to find your steering wheel is crooked or your alignment is out of whack. Or both. We've been asked a ton of times how we fix our alignment, and since our Jeep Wrangler needed one, we thought we would give ya'll a quick run down on how it's done!
Hope you all enjoy the video!

Its worth noting most manufacturers recommend slight toe in, not toe out. Toe in increase straight line stability and adds understeer, toe out increases turn in to corners and adds oversteer.
Toe out is good for racecars and probably good for offroaders, but if you find your 4x4 wandering all over the road you could consider going slight toe in, like stock, to combat this.

I too was under the impression to toe in not out.. I’m running 1/8 toe in and it’s perfect for my xj. I Never pay for alignment.

1/8th inch toe in is what I’ve always ran and had great results with. Toe out can cause some major issues with wear and wobble

Hey guys, before you put up a roof on your containers block them up on railroad ties or cinder blocks. I have 5 of these the 40 ft. ones. Here in Phoenix during the summer rains and the humidity in July, Aug & Sept. the temp change over night causes condensation to form. I didn't do anything about this the first year because it only happened two or three times but as they settled in the next year it got much worse. It got to the point that things in boxes got soaked and the problem got worse again. I had to open them during the day to let them dry out. The fix for me was to put 3 railroad ties under each one (four would be better). This will allow them to breath under them and that stopped the condensation for me. I didn't get it done in time and I lost my ammo loading press to rust and it was still in the box it came in. They still settle some so good solid ground or gravel will help.

Also adding vents is a huge help! I put a vent in one end and a "turbine" type roof vent at the other end.

Naval Jelly or it's variant from NAPA or ACE Hardware cleans the rust and even makes the metal like new. Even if the metal looks pitted Naval Jelly works wonders. Some times I have to a second or third round but the stuff works. Just make sure you do not purchase the cheap stuff.

That's what I've heard as well 1/8 in but if it's out maybe it's because he has steer smarts cuz I heard steer smarts recommend you go out or flat I hope he answers his question cuz I'd really like to know good video by the way this is actually really helpful I used to pay for my alignments because on the solid front axles you can't adjust camber the only thing you can really adjust is toe and your caster and pinion which is basically when your lift is put in and alignment shops don't do that no matter what they say.

The Front Range of Colorado: perfect fall this year. No hard freezes in October like last year. No snow so far. All the leaves fully changed color and slowly fell off. Rare around here. Usually we get snow in October which either pulls all the leafs off and/or breaks trees.

Wanted to give you a shout out and a big thank you on a UA-cam video you did on the Patagonia tires you did quite a while back. I run a 08 Tacoma with 315 75 16 Coopers on it. I I’ve been running Coopers for years. Last week I popped 2 tires at the same time. Because of the pandemic I couldn’t find tires anywhere I came across the only set of 315’s in St.George and they were Patagonia’s. I knew nothing about them but I grabbed em. So far I like em. Like you I’m a tire chalk line guy for proper inflation and wear on tires. I was just getting ready to air em down when I found your video and learned something I didn’t know. You saved me some major frustration and hours of therapeutic cursing. Thanks again for the content. You guys are awesome.

Great video! I have done my own Jeep alignment for awhile now. BleepinJeep has a great set of metal brackets that make it more precise than using a tape measure and treads, but your method also looks more precise, easy, and cheap! BUT, if you are looking to measure castor, most of the garage method's I've seen are inaccurate. If you have adjustable control arms or are putting in a lift, and need to get that measurement, I'd strongly advise a good professional alignment shop with the proper equipment. It's under a hundred bucks and will give you an exact measurement in which you can be confident.

For the past year, my 2020 JLRUD would throw ABS, ACC, and ASC errors while on trips of a couple hundred miles. The errors would typically clear themselves after a couple days of getting back home.
People said, “sounds like a wheel speed sensor” which concerned me because I’ve heard JK owners chasing wheel speed sensors for years.
Found a post on Northridge4x4’s blog that said to try adjusting the drag link to straighten your steering wheel.
Prevented a lifetime of chasing a fake, transient wheel speed sensor issue.
Thanks for the tip, y’all. These types of driveway “do it yourself” stuff is super-helpful.

On Landcruisers, you want 1-2 mm of toe in to make them run straight. They run terrible with toe-out.
Also, you will need 2 hammers on most old trucks to get the rusted links to move at all, hitting them from both sides and "massaging" the threads. Its best to completely unwind them, put a ton of anti seize on it and put it back together before doing an alignment.

I do like the random daily tasks videos as well. As for the containers, Get them off ground, Try to block so gritters don't live underneath aswell. Like skunks opossums or even rats, Make sure dont crush your canopy cover, that would be a bummer, I enjoy all your videos

Weird. I was just putting on my shoes to go out and align my Liberty when I saw your video title. I need to straighten the wheel after replacing the rack, and reduce the camber due to uneven tire wear.

    • @lookingbehind6335
      @lookingbehind6335 2 роки тому

Toe causes 99% of tire wear. Camber can cause wear if it is way out/in but that’s seldom the case.
Hopefully you set camber to level bubble and toe to zero. That should get you by until a proper alignment can be done. Toe being out/in by 5 degrees can cause unnecessary wear. You can’t get that exact with a tape measure or ruler. Best of luck.

its not always weight, some trees get brittle in the cold, we had a freek storm (desert) that destroyed Palo Verde Trees all over town, brittle.

Not related to alignment, but I bought a Z Automotive Tazer JL Mini to activate the Trailer Brake light and charging functions on my 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited Sahara after adding a trailer hitch and the rather expensive Mopar Trailer Wiring Harness. Kevin, I know you and Brittany have had good luck with the Tazer JL, but it did not work for me at all. Not only, did it not activate the trailer harness lights, but it messed up my ECU. My Sahara has an Automatic Transmission and now 1/2 the time when I get in the EVIC displays a message telling me to 'depress the clutch' to start the vehicle. When this happens, after I start it, I don't see my odometer reading. It's very odd, and disappointing as the Tazer JL Mini was $330.00 + Tax! Have you heard of anyone else having problems with these devices?
