@gabrieljasso4513 make sure you hold on real tight I’ve had em all 40 or more years ago rm 500s / cr480s/yz490s they are all real beasts very unforgiving any of them 👍🇦🇺
I still have my 1982 RM 465 I bought new while stationed in Guam, transferred to california and the 465 is a great desert sled particularly with taller gearing, I havent ridden it in some years now. You have a really nice collection
Just amazes me the bike and the similar taste we have in our collections !! the older RMs are some of my favorites and I am blessed to own some of them to this day ~ and like you , there so mint there are actually hard to take them out to ride! I do how ever from time to time take them out on my acerage and just excise them to keep everything lubed ~~ but again your my brother from another mother ! and very happy to have come across your channel ~ it will be just a matter of time before we cross paths~ and I cant wait for that day to come~ cheers~!!
That's funny, I had the same bike for 8 years, from 1982 until 1990, and it would go as straight as an arrow. Maybe it was just something with your bike, mine was fine. In fact, it was the best bike I ever had.
@@KBBMX I was a pretty heavy guy at the time, about 240 lbs. and it tracked straight as an arrow for me. And that front end came up on me a lot too, it was hard to keep it on the ground. I also put a metzeler perfectcross tire on the front, so that probably helped too. Back then the Suzuki RM's were known for straight line stability and moderate cornering ability, the Honda CR's were twitchy in the straights, and they cornered really well. I rode both, and the RM was much better in a straight line, at least for me it was.
In my profile pick I'm riding a 98 RM250. I traded it for a Blazer a few years ago and got a CRF 450. I missed the old smoker, so I just acquired a y2k RM250. Now I can go back in time again 😎👍
Beautiful. I think 1981 was the year of the original full floater suspension that had to be changed due to a patent infringement. It's so nice to see bikes likes these completely restored. Great job!
I had the pleasure of owning a 1982 RM465. They have a weak spot as the tabs that are used to hold the cylinder to the cases are prone to break. I know. Thankfully a good machine shop can repair & strengthen this area.
Hi Steven! That is great to know! I have not heard of this happening with the 465's but I do not know any guys racing these. Thank you for the heads up!
I had a 1982 RM465Z for 8 years, from 1982 until 1990, and never had one problem with the tabs, or anything else, it was the best bike I ever had, all I did was put a new top end on it every winter and ride it.
I bought a brand new 1982 Suzuki RM465Z at 22 years old, in 1982, it was so fast I was amazed. I got it for $2.495 from Smitty's Suzuki in Peoria Illinois. I rode it for 8 years and never had one breakdown or engine problem, all I did was put a new top end on it every winter, it was the best bike I ever had. I tricked it out with a white brothers works air box, boeysen reeds, sidewinder sprokets, terrycables on the throttle, front brake, and clutch, supercross bars and grips, and I sent the rear shock to white brothers in california for the deluxe shock mod, cost $150, which was a lot of money in 1982. I also had the dealer install a terry fork kit in the front, and I put a metzler perfectcross tire on the front, and a Cheng Shin super digger sand and mud tire on the back. It was so fast after that and it handled so good it was unreal, it would pull the front wheel in every gear, and it was a beast to ride. After 20 minutes you had to take a break because of arm pump trying to hang on to it. I rode a big gravel pit and I pretty much rode by myself, because nobody could keep up with me.
Amazing motorcycle , that guy reminds me of the actor who played angel on the Rockford Files okay Angel amazing bike's, I have original 1979 RM400 and other

Hi there Charlie, I recently bought a 82’ RM 465. It’s all there but the tank needs redone.I seen in ur video you had urs redone. Who or how can I get this done to mine? Ps. Awesome collection btw! Thanks Jerry
Hey Jerry! Thank you for the positive feedback! I have done my tanks and have had a person in Chandler, AZ do mine for me as well. Call Jeff at 602-291-3624. I am sure you can mail him your tank and get it refurbished. Jeff does great work and a lot easier having him doing it than you. I have some tanks that I have over 25 hours into them to get them looking perfect.
Almost seems that people bought/buy bikes based somewhat is available locally especially in years past. Just my opinion. Yamaha shop was 3 miles from home as compared to both Suzuki and kawasaki were 30 miles. There were plenty of dirt bikes. Just no Suzuki's growing up during 70's-80's. So I bought a beat 02 RM85 as my first Suzuki dirt bike to restore. Those 465's are fine machines
Charlie I have 82 rm465 it's in top shape I burn it up and down road one in a while plan on mx vintage racing it. Also built yz 465 out of eBay parts ground up the yz has 5 speed and more power but the RM is a lot easier to start both are excellent soon as you fire them up you are back in time lol they say you can't live in the past but like to visit great stuff

What can be said about the version the exactly that blue saddle that goes up a littlebit on the tank? I have that variant on mine. There are three different saddles right so it 's confusing and interesting why and dhen that waa changed.
Hello! I do show it to those that are like minded or those that have come by to pick up a bike, etc. not open to the public since it is part of my residence/property. I am in the Phoenix metro area in Arizona.
Wow! What a beautiful assortment of machines! I just saw in another video that the 81 is a 5 speed and the 82 is a 4 speed, but the claimed dry weight didnt change. Makes me wonder if the 81 had transmission issues that lead to Suzuki designing a heavier duty 4 speed set up (and if they were interchangeable)? Also, I'm surprised Suzuki allows anyone to acquire RC's practice bike. That's a keeper! Ps: Here's a link to the video I was referring to ua-cam.com/video/HohOab5oChg/v-deo.html
Good question why they went to a four speed but they kept the four speed for a while (RM 500 was 4 speed as well). I do not think it was because of issues but more of a better gear ratio to power. I know the RM 500 is not interchangeable with the five speed. The sale of the bike was up to RC not Suzuki but did take Suzuki a while to get me a certificate of origin.
I had the 1982 RM465 and it was a 4 speed. I loved it, because I could ride it almost anywhere near me in 2 gears, 2nd and 3rd, I almost never used 1st or 4th, unless I was at a big gravel pit where I could get it into 4th gear. The 2nd and 3rd gears were amazing, so much power, you could pull the front wheel with a blip of the throttle.
I had one of the first 1981 5 speeds, ran it in desert races 1981 to 1984. It was prone to third gear breaking. The dealer would warranty the parts but not the labor. It was ok with me because I always wrench on my own stuff, almost as much fun as riding👍. I could tear it down Monday night, pick up parts Tuesday and have it back together by Friday and ride all weekend! Apparently they improved the gear strenght as I only had to do it 3 or 4 times if i recall correctly. Very fun times, awesome bike! Wish i had been smart enough to keep it😂
There seem to be a lot of confusion. Is has been very difficult for me to grasp but in the end it's a sign they are used and a part of their history. I have the saddle going up on the tank and thats even more cobfusing since that seems to have been on on only the earliest and all the repro vinyl seats never seem to come in that design.
@CharlieFerer I've been having trouble locating a tank a right one and or one I'm going to use I would like to try a newer yz 450f tank on the it. It's more complete compared to the rm.
