Your closing statement is spot on. I'm 60 years old and I had one of these in the day and with a little bit of work the power was right there the handling was superb with that full floater. I look at pictures I have on two milk crates under the bike. That thing had like 14 ft of travel at each end LOL they were very high off the ground for the day with over 14 and 1/2 in of ground clearance. Love seeing your videos this one brings back very good memories to me. Not including multiple trips to the ER.
Good afternoon Chris,Very nice looking 41 year old bike. If this bike kicked back the way my Suzuki did ,watch out. Still have dents in my shins from my RM. The full floater swing arm is nice ,mono shock as well. Thanks for the upload . Now I want to start up my Grizzly. Hope you are having a great start to your summer.
Hi Joe nice to hear from you again yes just getting ready to head out to the big Scottish classic off-road bike weekend at Drumlanrig Castle so look out for all the bikes and the racing which will be posted on my You Tube Channel soon after the event. Stay safe my friend and all the best.
@@monticlassictv Sounds like a great time,Enjoy the sights, sounds ,and smells . Oh to smell the good old Castrol R . I got a new Back pack blower. STIHL brand, and some times it smells like my racer mix, that brings a smile to my face. Have a great time ,hopefully no rain . Mud races are fun as long as you are not trying to film it in the rain. Looking forward to your next post thanks again, your friend from across the big Pond. HAVE FUN !!!!!!
I had an '81 RM465 about 20 years ago. It had holes in the airbox cover like you mentioned. A previous owner put on a Mikuni flatslide carb. I bought it from a motorcycle salvage yard, as the left case was broken due to a snapped chain. I found a pair of used cases on eBay and was able to get it back on the trails. I ended up selling it because it was just too much bike for me. I couldn't keep the front wheel on the ground. The next owner turned it into a drag bike at Bandimere Speedway in Denver.
Although the RM465 might not have had the strongest motor(still PLENTY STRONG) it was the Full Floater that gave this bike an advantage over many of the open classers. The rear end was virtually without peer at this point and the forks struggled to attain the same quality of ride. I see he has a DG pipe on it.....that may have been a good deal in broadening the power as Suzuki at that point on some of their bikes was welding a piece of metal with a smaller than the pipe diameter into the pipe to cut noise and it definitely affected power. I remember Dirt Bike giving a drawing of where that was in the pipe and how to take it out on some of the RMs and thus increase ad smoothen the power.
Hi, I just picked up an RM465 and struggling to find any diagrams and parts. It had a rough life and certainly needs some work. Any tips or suggestions would be great!
Hi i had a 1980 RM 400 and the stock carb had a idle screw now my next bike was 1983 RM 500 on the stock carb had no idle screw and looking at the photo of the 1981 RM 465 it looks like the idle screw is no there . i wish my 1983 RM 500 had a idle screw also i think the 500 had a flat slid Mikuni maybe the 465 had one also . Thanks JM
Hello Chris ! Good job 👍👍👍. At this time I had seen two times "Bad" Brad on his 500KX and he was my preferred pilot on my preferred bike ! I was so "disappointed" when he was champion on this Suzuki ! But so happy at the same time !!! See you for your next story !😉😉😉
I bought my ‘81 RM465 right after I graduated from High School. Awesome machine overall but the front brake and fork were way outclassed by the rest of the bike.
I have a 83 rm 500. Love the old suzuki race bikes
Great Chanel I can't get enough
81 was my Second year in MX in the 80cc class. I can remember the 465 ripping around the track. Brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing.

Chris, great video!!! Keep up the good work.
I’ve been riding the 1982 for the last 8 years, but it’s now in the shop due to bad gas mix; ImI’m hoping to get it back soon. Great video
Thanks for your comment Alfonso and I hope you enjoy further video’s from my channel.
Would love to see an action video. This bike loves to eat!
Very nice specimen!
My Dad had one in 1982, I rode it a couple of times. What a hoot, trying to keep the front wheel down. 😂😂😂
Beautiful bike!

Have a 1981 CR450 that needs a few bits to get running again.
