      I've found several thin booklets of lectures given by Manly P. Hall in boxes of bookshops with the label "Sale" attached to it. Me, lucky finder. Through many years I've listened to him on UA-cam, always fascinating and to the point, wrapped in dry humour at times. He was, what we tend to point out in mythical stories.....a sage, a wise man and beautiful human being. A genuine manly man.

    THE ABSOLUTE GOAT. The fact that he wrote Secret Teaching of All Ages by 27 blew my mind because I'm 27 and I just don't know how he knew everything he knew by then already. And after reading his other works I'm still mind blown by his perennial Wisdom.

    My first discovery of MPH was 22 years ago with His book " Self Unfoldment"
    The first sentence of that book still has the greatest hook I've ever read: "This book will have to use words to teach you something that cannot be put into words"

    Amazing to hear the self-contradiction of Hall's life. Listened to one of his lectures earlier where he flatly denounced materialism, yet he was murdered for his many rich materials in what he would seem to define as the "karma" he'd built for himself.
    Listening to the man's lectures, I am also shocked to discover he surrounded himself with many elites... even being financed by millionaires. And I have to wonder what measure of "kindness" was in charging a dollar for mysticism pamphlets during the Depression. A dollar was a lot of money when one could buy a hot meal for less than 25 cents.
    Hall spoke much on kindness in the last lecture I heard, and I don't find it very kind to charge the desperately hopeful a dollar... especially when one is already financed by millionaires.
    I guess it just goes to show how much easier it is to speak words than it is to live by them, and where even the seemingly wisest among us can fall prey to a life of hypocrisy.

    • @d0wnstars
      @d0wnstars 5 років тому +12

      That is why Jesus said:"Do as they say not as they do". I have heard people talk about unconditional love and jet see them shun their own child. When we remember that we all need forgiveness it may be easier to be thankful for his work that is still doing a lot of good for a lot of people and is freely available today. Is it not sad when our good deeds are in vain because of some bad deeds? Life becomes better when you do not have to judge. I don't know enough about anyone that will give me the right to judge. Even Solomon who asked for wisdom was not allowed to build the temple for God. But jet his words are still in the bible and are still helping people gaining in wisdom. When we look truthfully into our self we find that all people are somehow hypocrites. But the biggest hypocrites are the ones who think they are not.

    • @lauriedavies6183
      @lauriedavies6183 5 років тому +11

      Downstars Yeah. Matthew 23:3. My intention was not to come off as self-superior or judgemental, so much as I acknowledged an observation having been somewhat shocked by just listening to Hall's lecture on "kindness," "karma" & "materialism" immediately prior to watching this video & discovering he was murdered for his wealth. Wealth that he came by, at least partially, from high-priced sales during the Depression. What you've presumed is judgement is shock as I use writing as an outlet to reach my own thoughts & "think" both within & outside my own head.
      But in truth, very few people have respect for "Do as I say, not as I do" tutors and/or preachers. We seek lessons that work & it's hard to know if a lesson works when even the exalted teacher is unable to practice what they preach.
      Matthew 23:12 continues ... "Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted". Then, Jesus continues to go on an absolute tirade of a rant slamming hypocrisy & hypocrites after explaining there's only one true instructor in Matthew 23:10 & "And call no man your father on earth, for you have one father who is in heaven" in Matthew 23:9.
      And being that I am not a Christian, I would argue that "father" and/or spiritual connection with divinity is within each and every one of us. So, we are each are own best instructors when we become acutely self-aware & choose to humbly practice what we believe as opposed to seeking external saviors & a connection with divinity outside oneself which all-too-often leads to hypocrisy & a demand for mass conformity to what one, alone, most usually struggles to conform with.
      I don't know. Once again, just thinking out loud as I tend to do.

    • @d0wnstars
      @d0wnstars 5 років тому +1

      @@lauriedavies6183 It was never my intention to make you feel judgmental or to shock you in any way shape or form. what i tried to say is that realizing that you don't have to judge for your own peace of mind. You do not forgive for the person hurting you but for your self. So you do not have to hold on on feelings of anger. If you want to judge it is better to judge for your self what you can learn from someone els their mistakes.
      I say this because i had a moment in life where i could not even enjoy music i loved because of the persons who wrote it. I was quite bitter and more alone. I did even depressed my best friend because i wanted to talk about it. Hope i made myself more clear. When i have said you i mean myself as wel. Just my thoughts about what i have learned.

    A great primer presentation. I just recently began researching Hall, which came about quite strangely. I fall asleep to audiobooks here on UA-cam, and one night I woke around three in the morning to relieve myself and one of his lectures had loaded in my cue. The lecture intrigued me, for it was addressing everything I had been struggling with at that time. I never went back to sleep that night, and have been researching him ever since. I'm not the time of person to accept anything I absorb until meditating on it, so Im not entirely persuaded that all that this speaker presented was 100% factual. It was however enjoyable and I think she did a great job. I continue to be fascinated by Mr. Hall, who unexpectedly provided me with very useful information which lit a fire in motivation in me I haven't had since my youth. The most useful tactic I learned from him was prayer for those who would thwart or abuse you, no matter to whom or what you pray. I have witnessed the effects of this immediately. Those prayers are sparks capable of vast resources of energy, positivity, creativity and wisdom if performed with truthful and earnest belief, and most importantly, love, compassion and empathy. 707

      When I think of murder, I think of someone being shot or knifed, but the Brother's case seems more contrived, sophisticated and planned by someone close to him wanting to cash in. Biologically, I can't accept that he was a 'Hermophrodite'... but a spiritually evolved being beyond sex...conditions attributed to angels and higher spirits ! To me he failed to do what 'Acharya_S' had accomplished, make a comprehensive comparison between Jesus and Apollonius of Tyana; however, I love what he did with the Gnostic God 'Abraxas' linguistically, showing the name to be related to the 'Abir Axis' or Father Axis .... astrologically) ! Anyone else see that Manly's full name is quite close in spelling out 'Manly P.hallus'?
    Could it just have been a mildly amusing coincidence, or a twisted prank of an alias that he came up for himself. Maybe he thought that all he needed to fully realise his ultimate peepee joke was for people to start acknowledging/following his work. All he needed was 'Us'. I honestly wouldn't put it past him for doing so, considering how devilishly clever he was. Just a thought lolol Great guy though

      The circumstances surrounding his bizarre death would seem to contradict your belief that he died of natural causes.... it all was very disturbing, "thousands of ants crawling out of him" etc... and Fritz and son were clearly opportunistic, lying, thieving monsters for what they did to him. He was truly a great man and didn't deserve such a terrible end.

    I was fortunate enough to attend many of his lectures (and still have some copies of them). I met him once and got an autograph from him as so many did. He was very gentle and very wise. His book is way beyond me. But I can tell it is a profound deep detailed work. I'm pretty sure he was a 33 degree Mason which I think is a good thing. I do not know that he was murdered. I guess I'd like to see the evidence. He was 89 though and had, I feel, a good long life. I feel he was a pure positive being and tried to help humanity and the kingdoms of nature.

      A 33 degree Mason is just a honorary title like getting a key to the city.
      In and of itself, it doesn't mean much other than the Masons agreed that the person is distinguished in their field. One does not have to be a Mason or do anything with or for the Masons in order to be awarded it.
      It is a token of respect.
      For instance, US Presidents are generally all offered it, if they have not already been honored previously. Say as a Governor or other role.

    wow!wow! MPH is proof that reality is stranger than fiction. I have been listening to his lectures for 5 years now and I consider him one of the greatest teachers of all ages. The algorithm had already suggested this lecture/biography before but I didin't want to see it because I had this nagging feeling that meeting your heroes is a generally dissapointing experience. I had already pieced together some stuff from his lectures and the prologue's of his books and what really stood out for me was how the heck did a 22 year old had the time and resources to travel the world and write an encyclopedia on such an obscure subject matter. I imagined he must have had wealthy parents or something. From his lectures I tought the guy was basically a priest and perhaps even a saint, I never imagined I could live up to the standards of his teachings, so in a way it is a bit dissapointing to know that he didn't either but at the same time it is a great relief to know that he didn't and he was only human and trying to do his best. This does not detract from his teachings of course however it does underscore that his lectures and public persona are scripted, with a bit of showmanship added,and not a spontaneous reflection of actual inner or outer life. like any other content and content creator on youtube I guess.
