Greetings from rural SA. I love that little Salvos store. My sister took me there are burying dad. Yes, my sister and I op shop for any reason. I did find a cute little white knitted bolero cardigan/jacket with a pearl button.
G'day, my friend 👋 It's a great little store, isn't it? I also find any reason to have a dig around in an op shop 😃💗 The bolero you mentioned sounds beautiful! 😍 What are the op shops like over in SA?
Hi the pastel baby blanket @7:15 looks to be a Jacob's Ladder stitch. The one you thought was Tunisian is actually a mesh base that has strands of yarn weaved under and over the horizontal mesh to create a "tartan" style look.
Hi there Tina👋 I'm so happy that I'm able to take you with me when I go thrifting. I always picture in my mind that I'm spending the day with all my friends like you 🙂 I would love to visit sunny Las Vegas one day. I can only imagine what the thrift sores over there are like.
Oooh, love that beanie. The stitch looks familiar but I can't place it. I'll look through my crochet books to see if I can find it and if I do, I'll let you know. Also, I have many schematics for creating wearables with granny squares -- if you're interested, I can mail some to you, but similar are probably online? --not sure.❤❤ I typically only wear granny squares as a cardigan, beanie of some type, or shawl, and sometimes a bag or basket trim. Enjoy watching your thrift shopping and hauls --it feels like I'm really there! 👀💕🧶
Hi Kris 👋 Thank you so much for watching, and for your lovely kind comment 🙏🤗💗 Oh, I would be really intrigued if you can find that stitch in your books! I haven't been able to find it yet, so any help would be great! 🤗🌺 Those schematics you mentioned sound really interesting, I'll have a look online and see if I can find any to save you the trouble of posting. But I'll let you know if I can't find any, would that be ok? 🤗💗🌺
I went to my local salvos the other day but I couldn't bring myself to buy someone's hard made granny square blankets in order to frog it to give me more yarn for my own, so I left them there for someone else to love
Hiya 👋 That's very kind of you. Yes, I don't think I could frog another blanket either, but I can understand why others do. It is a great way to repurpose the yarn, and it does save it from ending up in landfill, so it's great for sustainability.
Really enjoy your videos. Love the shopping ones when I can’t sleep during the early hours. I would want to rescue every single crocheted blanket! You have willpower! Kristen in Nashville Tennessee USA
Hi Kristen 👋 I'm so glad you found some comfort in watching my videos 😊🦋 It is really hard to choose which blankets I can salvage and which ones I have to leave behind. I wish I could rescue them all too! 💗
Thanks for another great thrift store video. I've used that bobble yarn as an edging on a baby blanket. I bet it would also be good to edge a pillow. I think that the hat is done in some kind of shell stitch. The pansy on it is a nice touch. I enjoy when you show the blankets. The one with the eyelash yarn worked into a granny stitch gave me an idea for what to do with a ton of eyelash yarn I picked up and is now giving me buyer's remorse. LOL I think I am going to use it all on to make a wild, shaggy, boho granny blanket. It's not hard to know where your next stitch goes when you are working a granny stitch, and the two-stitch granny would make a denser fabric. Yahoooooo!
Hiya 👋 Thanks for watching, and for all your tips! 🤗 I'm so glad you found some inspiration from the blanket I showed! That's so great to hear! Your idea for a shaggy, boho blanket sounds amazing! 😃💗
The "Tunisian" blanket is actually just double crochets and chains. Then you weave yarn in and out throughout blanket. You can even make chained yarn and weave it through to make it thicker. I made my ma one last year for xmas
@@ruthinater4322 I would love to try it sometime! I really enjoy learning new techniques🙂🧶 Thank you so much for watching, I really want my op shop adventures to be a fun day out like I'm going shopping with all my friends. I love that you get to come with me 🙂
Wow that is an excellent thrift shop. Mine all have next to no craft supplies. I always think the prices on those handcrafted goods are just so low, considering be the work that has gone into it. But then again they have been given to the thrift store.
Oh I agree Erica, seeing all that hard work and love being priced so low always makes me sad. You are right though, they were donated so I guess that we can just take solace in the fact that hopefully someone will buy the items and treasure them 🙂🤗
You find amazingly fun stuff😊! Love that cardigan youre wearing🥰❣️ I dont have thrift shops or Op shops like you do😢. I would be so broke$ if i did lol.
Hi Teresa 👋 Thank you so much for your kind comment! 🙏💗 Yes, I am glad that some of these thrift stores can sometimes be quite cheap, otherwise I'd definitely be broke!
Isn't it funny how some scrap yarn in a bag will cost $5 and yet a whole blanket of yarn is $10 at the most! You did well finding what you did and thankyou for using the metric system. I have such a hard time understanding feet, yards, inches. Then other Aussie UA-cam channels won't use metric, which just annoys me. I love Op shopping and finding all the goodies. Hope it's warmed up there. It's still wet and cold here in SA too 😊
Hi Liana 👋 Yes, it is pretty weird pricing, isn't it? I think it must just come down to whoever is doing the pricing that day 😃 Yes, it has warmed up here a bit now that the storms have passed! Definitely looking more like Spring now 😊💗🦋
Hi loved watching this Our charity shops are tiny compared to yours I love your idea of making the blanket into a cardigan Did you return to buy the other purple blanket ?
Hi Katherine 👋 Thanks for watching! 🙏💗 No, I didn't go back for the other purple blanket, even though I genuinely regretted not getting it. I hope it found a good home! 😊
I cannot think of any logic as to why so much would be charged for a bag of scrap yarn, and small bags at that holding stuff that is hard to find a good use for, while the huge blankets with such a lot of yarn and work gone into them are so cheap. Pity a group of us couldn't get together for an unpicking party to get those granny squares separated. It is only a small amount of work compared to what went into creating the blanket but still a lot of time to unpick them. Plenty of granny cardi-coat options.
I know, I still can't understand their pricing policies! It doesn't make any sense to me either 🤷♀️ An unpicking party would be great! I imagine we could make quite a few cardi's/jackets and jumpers if we did that! 😃
Hmm, good suggestion🙂 Shell stitches have so many variations so it could very well be that! As for deleting your comments, I haven't deleted any. I checked the "Held for review" section and there's none in there either, so I'm not sure what's happening there 🤔 Can I ask what you wrote as I love reading comments 🤓
It’s pretty yes you can do it !!!
Thanks, Debra! 🙏 💗
Love the buttons
Me too! They make such a nice sound when you move them around too 😃
I recently found 2 large bags of fabric scraps. The smallest piece is 8x8 inches. Each bag was $6.99! Couldn’t resist!
What a great find! 😃💗

That looked like a V stitch border- i used that stitch on a blanket made for a physiotherapist that moved away
