- There is an energy revolution happening in East Africa.
Geothermal steam in the Great Rift Valley is being harvested.
Scientists say it could lift millions of people out of poverty and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Al Jazeera’s Catherine Soi reports from the Olkaria power plant in Naivasha, in the Rift Valley.

This is water to my soul! Thank you for this report! I so love that Kenya is powerfully leaning into clean power. The benefits will be ongoing and ever increasing. I cannot think of a wiser approach to governing at this moment in history.
Kenya's star is rising. This benefit will also benefit the whole world. May this project increase in both scale and good will.
Time to produce a happy society
Thank God I have lived to see this in Kenya and Africa as a whole.
Kenya is really shinning in development and innovation
Geothermal could be used in a lot of areas, not just the Rift Valley. Kenya leading the way! (Well, and Iceland.)
Well done Kenya!!.
Go Kenya
More sense than u.k or european countries. Well done!
Kenya was always better than Somalia & Uganda as well. 🤣
@@surojeetchatterjeeDon’t say that. Putting other Africans down is how the continent was stolen. All together is the way. 🖤💚❤️
Cool stuff.
Kenya will be the first country in Africa to become a superpower. Everything seems to fall in place Energy is one of the major keys.
No it's gonna be Rwanda
@@vincentzinganto8458 small village that is
They just discovered large quantities of coltan, if the resource is well-managed it will bring the much needed money to catapult the country
Kenya 🇰🇪 🇰🇪 🇰🇪
Nice one
keep it up kenya, soon you'll be leading the world
An important story about clean and renewable energy but the time allocated to it is so short forcing the reporter to tell it so shallowly. sad
Inspite of harvesting so much electricity from these sources the electricity price at the end consumer is relatively highly in regards to the GDP.. The challenge now is reducing the electricity prices so that the costs of manufacturing may decline and make the country a manufacturing hub.
The million dollar question here is why is electricity so expensive in the country?? We have free natural resources that only require harnessing, we also have great levels of suns irradiance which is pretty much unexploited.
The IPP deals.
because of private power supply contracts signed by govt in cahoots with tenderpreneurs.
@@TheTororist There we go!!
A shame that Africa is rich in natural resources like this but could not really take off due to corruption, deadly tribalism, desertification and now, droughts on a huge swathe.
Its not due to corruption please stop this nonsense, they got colonized and after that the colonosts installed, armed and supported corrupt leaders socthey can keep buying cheap resources. Notice how african leaders that fought for nationalizations and using the resources for their people often get assassinated?
don't forget subversive destabilizing activities by America and European nations to keep Africa poor and underdeveloped
Don't forget neo colonialism
It looks like you were watching CNN and NGO advertisement. This news report has Kenya scientist developing their resources and making good use of it. You have a very low IQ.
@@jzk2020 And destabilisation by foreign powers including regime change, sanctions, assassinations ...the list goes on and on
Light up the whole continent. Good attitude.
America said as long as you’re trading that steam in dollars or you’ll need some democracy soon too
Lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂
This is Kenya, Obama's homeland. We ruled that Zoomerica & run it.
Kenya is a perfect democracy better than USA
Lez do this bby!!
Great news! Geothermal is one of the 4 greenest renewables!
Are you counting tidal?
@@palmshoot I am!
@@realtalk5329 What of hydro?
@@palmshoot I don't include hydro because of its harm to animals. In washington they harm salmon runs which harm orcas eagles seals bears etc because their its food source
Well done Kenya,Love from India. Let's play more game of cricket. But Beware about the crazies surrounding Kenya in East & Western borders.
You mean the Somali pirates ? We know about them. They are cool for the most part. Only a few are extremists.
@@jzk2020
U had idi Amin crazies in west & somali pirates in right earlier. 😅😜 pirates r still criminals understandable for economic reasons & poverty. But now u have al shabab there. Al shabab is al Qaeda wing.
@@surojeetchatterjee Idi Amin has been dead over 19 years sicko, go built a toilet for your family
cool
While I appreciate this, why is electricity still high?
They don't talk about Kenyan oil
Bcoz it negligible, it's not even a drop in the bucket
We're better off without oil.. look what it did to west Africa Mozambique Sudan etc or the Congo minerals... Let's invest in our own people that's where the greatest wealth lies
I rly like this

Only got one problem though

Lets hope corruption dont kill this project....
It won't. Economics will protect it. Clean power is MUCH MUCH more efficient and lucrative than dirty fuels that wreck the planet. 😃
Kenya has used geothermal energy for decades
from the 1950s to now, still going strong
well done
