Perhaps in your area but I can assure you that shoney's restaurants still exist they do not have the high numbers that they once had I believe they have somewhere below 100 restaurants and they're largely in the South to Southeast. In fact I believe to this day there are certain products at Lee's chicken actually gets supplied with from shoney's by now Lee's could have changed their suppliers but I do know in the early 2000s they were still buying certain products from shoney's shoney's actually used to own chicken.
We now only eat out locally. We do have a local chain called Jacks. It offers full breakfast, burgers, specials and is still reasonable, very popular with retirees. I dont mind supporting Jacks because it is very good, locally owned and has been in business since early 1960s.
Maybe it's just me, but a lot of restaurants and fast food places don't taste as good post pandemic. I used to eat a lot of fast food, but now I won't hardly even eat it anymore. It just makes me sick now.
There's no doubt in my experience that the quality of food has gone down greatly almost everywhere. But especially with fast food. All these ranches burning down and farms and and beef and chicken shortages have caused not just fast food but Mass food production to seek alternate resources and fillers. Even half of what you buying your Supermarket nowadays is drastically reduced in quality. Do yourself a favor and experiment with several of your favorite simple munchies. For instance I used to buy graham crackers all the time and Munch on them as a treat and sometimes with milk like a serial. Usually it did not make a big difference whether you got generic or name brand. But nowadays most of them taste like sawdust. If you pay attention you will find that a lot of foods are just like that now. The quality is way down.
Its about supply chain and demand. Way back bakers could not keep up with demand for bread. The supply of flour could not keep up. The solution was adding a bit of plaster of paris to the dough. That is but one example that resulted in the early days of food regulations. I have no doubt this supply chain issue and the cutting in with legal fillers is at play today.
One of the biggest reasons for failures of these restaurants is price. One can go to a diner or family restaurant and have a sit down meal brought to you for less than the cost of a meal at a fast food chain. I have seen an 11-year-old child eat over $25 worth of food at a Chick-Fil-A. There is NO EXCUSE for these kind of prices. A modest meal at the "golden arches" will cost you in the neighborhood of $15 to $20. I can go to the local diner for less - including tip - and not walk away hungry. These places are pricing themselves out of the market.
I stopped at McD recently just for an iced tea. It was basically just some cloudy water with lots of ice. Barely tasted like tea…yet the price keeps rising.
MissPriss: Generic tea bags are DIRT cheap. Microwaves are common. I only drink water (mostly) and hot tea. My drink budget is about $12 a year - LITERALLY, as I buy generic Kroger green tea, on sale when I can get it, but reuse the tea bags a couple times. Even full price, that's like half a cent per cup, plus whatever the electric bill is to run the microwave. Why in the WORLD waste a few bucks on something as TERRIBLE as McDonald's TEA? No wonder people "can't save money".
Grocery sells tea bags + water from the tap = Iced tea. Add ice, maybe sugar and lemon juice to a stainless tumbler, a glass of tea that costs you 🪙🪙 not 💲💲

Well I must say, Fast Food or Junk Food is not a big loss for the health benefit of the society if you ask me. We have a pandemic of obesity and diabetes in developed countries around the world and we need to stop this.
You raise a good point. Those that the price really isn't an issue don't tend to do a lot of fast food. I do on rare occasion when i'm being bad. I got a double quarter pounder with cheese for the first time in years that I'd set foot in MD and damn I have to admit it was good.
If everyone would stop going to chains and go to the mom and pop businesses instead of supporting the big corporations and their inflated salaries, we would have food we like better, food that costs less, support our local businesses. A win all around for US consumers.
These places have lost customers because the prices have gotten too high. Sit down restaurants have similar prices to these fast foods chains. Even McD's is no longer a bargain.
How many times do you see towns putting all their zoning for fast food stores on one particular strip in town. Like they used to do with bars, casinos, street walkers and other vices. Buy organic and learn to cook and you might survive the die off that is in progress.
Well it's been a service economy for a very long time I mean I can remember in the mid-90s headed into junior high that many of our teachers was talking about how it's already headed to the service economy and some of them not all of them broadcasted that information as if it was a good thing. By the time I was graduating high school in the early to mid-2000s via 2003 I can say it was pretty much a service economy you still had some manufacturing mind you mostly owned by foreigners and you want to talk about low pay I mean you made if you were lucky a couple bucks above McDonald's and at one point you actually made more at McDonald's. Nowadays not so much everybody for the past 6 to 7 years has been bitching pissing and moaning about the proverbial $15 an hour at these joints however you're never really going to get the $15 an hour being hired off the street particularly with no experience they're going to use all of that and more against you not to pay you that way if you did get the proverbial $15 an hour well regardless of what they're paying you on the hour you're not going to get hardly any hours I mean the going rate for several years in fast food has been literally 13 to 20 hours a week for the vast majority of employees.
@@government_costumes-ui5lx, that is a well thought out explanation of what has happened to the country, and to a great extent, to the world. Many good points there. Thanks for posting. 👍👍
Thanks to Puppets Politicians that send manufacturing to china, indis mexico etc to get more profits- Those Traitors said the " love " America? Really?🤔
@@government_costumes-ui5lx: That doesn't stop one from getting a good education and making a nice living as a professional, in services. Medical services, computing services, food services and on and on have great jobs in things like robotics, computing, engineering, etc. And things like computing, engineering, and robotics jobs (like repairing/servicing them) are NOT all going away any time soon. Now, if you get a degree in something with little good employment opportunity by not planning ahead -- that's on YOU. For example, how many great jobs are offered for, say, 19th century French poetry?
And no wonder either, who can afford their $7.35 (out the door, CDN) peanut buster par fer the courses?! That's not a misprint or a typo either! $7.35 all in! Redonculous!
Well I would say that dairy Queen is a very interesting case, And the main reason I say that is because in many respects their comparable to Pizza Hut and Domino's Pizza in one particular arena. And that would be price and icon. You see the hay day for those restaurants like dairy Queen or Pizza Hut or Domino's Pizza well it was the stereotypical 1980s yeah I know they all did big business in the seventies but the 80s was I think probably their major peak and they came off of that decade with their noses in the air they thought they were all that in a bag of chips. Part of that is what they formed in the eighties was a higher price menu and they made themselves out to be a certain amount of exclusive to appeal to the uppity middle class types. The problem is through the 90s or even early 2000s they failed to reverse that by the time those companies reversed that decision and started to lower their prices well Pizza Hut and Domino's they cut quality right along with the price and thus no one wanted it anymore dairy Queen where they're unique is perhaps the quality wasn't so much cut the prices took a while to get back down to Earth but by that time the damage was already done in any given area there's bound to be independent dairy bars you don't really need to go to dairy Queen and then you have the Advent that McDonald's Burger King and everybody else in between started selling people ice cream cones and other specialty desserts you don't really need dairy Queen so they price themselves out of the market is pretty much the long and the short of the situation.
We've gone after the kids' piano recital for the past few years (so once a year). Last time we went to our local one, a fight broke out between an employee and someone in the parking lot (not a customer ...) who said the employee owed them money. We grabbed out kids and left quickly when the employee yelled for somebody to call 911. We all got sick from the ice cream we ate before the drama, and between the drama and the apparent food poisoning, all agreed that we wouldn't be going back.
Off all the fast food at least we're I live Wendy's is the least crap but still classified poison but the chessy cheddar burger omg that's a secret burger not even on the menu
These places going under doesn’t surprise me in the least, l hope they ALL go under. I stopped eating out ages ago, who wants to get ripped off, NOBODY !
Edwin: Sadly, many young to middle aged people value time over money and health with busy jobs/lives, so MANY people will continue to eat such places, even at unreasonable prices for LOW quality food. The only good news is their overall market will diminish in size as the prices get more outrageous as on the margin, SOME people will wake up.
I got a whopper about 4 months ago and the patty was so paper thin all I could taste were the toppings. The price was ridiculous too. I will not eat there again.
Burger King is a fucking joke. I went to one in San Destin Florida this last Sunday. Waited in drive thru for twenty minutes and no one came on the outside speaker. So I drove around and parked to go inside. There was two customers there waiting at registers looking aggravated. My wife and Grandson waited 10 minutes and no one came to front register even though there was six employees in cooking area. I decided to ask the other two customers if they were having issues with their order. They replied they ordered their food 30 minutes ago and paid for it but were really tired of waiting around and didn’t want to leave because they paid way to much for what they were getting. I then screamed out to the employees of Burger King who where hiding in the back and completely ignoring the customers and told them they were a fucking joke and are not doing their job. No wonder Burger King is going out of business. The people working there are not even doing their job nor are they serving any customers. This has happened to me at numerous Burger Kings. What a disgrace and management does nothing to fix this problem.
@@troybenson3488 Not Burger King specific. You'll find that kinda thing at many fast food locations regardless of brand. All just really depend on the management and who the franchiser is. And you didn't look good yourself throwing a little fit. You just leave and go elsewhere.
Just because a few stores shut down doesnt mean a damn thing. Dairy queen in my hometown brookings Oregon is kicking ass as well as all the other locations in small towns.
@@jimmyheights5143 I stopped over 3 yrs ago, fast food, still get craving's tho. It's actually nice to know when you buy/eat organic food, your body feels better and sleep happy. just knowing you've made a great positive change.

Nearly all of these are places I've never eaten at - so makes no difference to me. And having Dunkin Donuts go down is a plus in my book. I haven't been to a DQ (Dairy Queen) in a quarter of s century. While I'd like to try Popeyes, none of the others are remotely on my radar.
I live in AL, Prattville. Closed down, Steak n Shake, DQ, Checkers, Quiznos, Krystal. No one cares or will miss them. Lots of local places that are much better.
You are right. I treated my wife to Popeyes for lunch. Two two piece boxes. Cost? $23. I treated my wife to a local restaurant for lunch. Fried fish three sides and fresh lemonade for her. Popcorn shrimp three sides and tea for me. The cost? $19 plus $5 tip. It’s a nobrainer
@@blahaaaaaaan" But the reason so many people eat fast food is they're busy job / career people and basically don't cook. I was like that for my whole career - I fully admit it. At least during the first 30 years or so of that the food was cheap at fast food places and generally tasted decent for what it was. Unlike today, re lots of comments (since I NEVER eat fast food or fried food any more).
The onion rings were the best years ago. Not sure why they were eliminated, but they were thin and crispy. They could be folded up and popped in the mouth
The biggest costs for all restaurants starts before even talking about food. Building costs/rent and Property Taxes. Utilities, High for buildings their size. Advertising/Franchise/Insurance costs. Now we have food and labor costs. It's very costly to operate out of any location bigger than a bicycle food cart!

I'll bet not one upper executive in any of these corporations took a pay cut to attempt to help their company. I wonder how many locations it takes to pay their salaries alone?
Gegory Brown: Corporations, probably not. Small businesses used to do that, as a matter of principle AND it helped with employee morale in recessions. Like my girlfriend's dad would ALWAYS take a pay cut first at his local lumber mill, and let the folks know. And he'd try VERY hard to adjust hours, etc. instead of laying anyone off. But at least if things got bad enough, it was obvious he cared, and he'd always offer to hire them back ASAP when things turned around. Overall, he had a VERY reliable long term, dedicated work force, for a few decades. They were also flexible, re helping out when employee X got sick, etc. Such behavior at least used to be appreciated, but it is VERY rare in the corporate world.
@Joshua if you think closing options of revenue is a better option then cutting underperforming upper management, maybe you need to stop studying economics and try practicing some.
This should help with the obesity problem. Let’s hope it’s true that fast food is going out. If you have to prepare your own food and think about your health, you win.
I noticed too after the pandemic certain products declined in quality and quantity. I am a pretty good scratch cook so instead of complaining I simply will make my own foods! Nothing tastes better than home cooking and maybe people will rediscover that!
Fast food places are not going anywhere. Most of these are just closing unprofitable stores or getting rid of bad franchisees. It's not new. There is always churn in these systems.
I think it's interesting that when sales at Target and Bud Light are down they say it's because of going woke.. and yet when the exact same thing happens at Chick-fil-A they go quiet. 🤔
Someone Out-there: Politics never ceases, and dishonesty re claims is rampant from BOTH sides. So instead of honest debate you get massive distortion campaigns. Your example is one of MANY - again, from BOTH sides. Disclosure: I'm a moderate who doesn't appreciate the antics of the extremes of EITHER left or right wing politics.
Chick-fil-a was in trouble before pandering to the queers, now they will lose a portion of their conservative customers which is going to make things worse for them.
Ribeye and eggs for breakfast. Cooked fresh at home for LESS than some mass produced spit on with hair in it breakfast sandwich at any fast food place. And it takes less than 15 minutes to make.
It's not just about the fast food, it's about all those unemployed, unskilled workers who will find "other things" to do with their time. We're closing in on having a large group of unskilled people who are unemployable. You may not be buying fast food but you'll be paying the taxes, and other costs in the aftermath of the economy collapsing all around us.
@@jmath1978 A mob will likely kill you, better if you can take some of them with you. I'm just glad I live rural and my my neighbors are mostly armed, retired military.
Many fast-food chains and average quality slow-food restaurants have raised their prices too high, given the quality of the food they serve. These are not fine dining establishments where you are willing to pay more for fabulous meals you could not possibly make at home while enjoying an expertly made cocktail with that meal. We stopped going to Popeyes, when two small box lunches (small portion of chicken, one biscuit, one small side) plus two beverages cost $40. We rarely go to Burger King or MacDonalds anymore other than to use the drive-thru to get iced tea on a hot day when we are out running errands. I can buy a package of pre-cooked sirloin burger patties at Sam's Club or Costco and get a bag of frozen French fries to bake in the oven and make cheeseburgers and fries for my family for a fraction of what it would cost to buy a similar burger meal for each person at a fast-food restaurant. I can pan sear a sirloin steak from Costco or Sam's Club in a cast iron skillet and serve a loaded, microwaved "baked" potato and some buttered green beans with it for a fraction of what the 6 oz. steak dinner with two sides costs at Texas Road House. I can bake some frozen Gorton's crispy coated fish fillets, pan fry some frozen shrimp in butter and garlic and microwave a packet of Uncle Ben's flavored rice for a fraction of what a basic seafood platter costs at Red Lobster. With the prices of basic necessities, such as vehicle fuel, steadily rising, who wants to waste any of their income on over-priced fast-food and average quality restaurant meals when we could make better quality meals at home for less money? Spending more money to avoid having to prepare meals at home does not make sense when incomes have not risen as quickly as the prices for consumer goods and utilities have risen.
It's not that prices are raising, your dollar is worth less so it takes more to buy the same things. Grocery prices are higher also, you stop shopping for food?
Meh. Me and the Mrs just shared a chorizo plate and a bottle of Jarritos at one of the independent Mexican restaurants in town and paid less than $13 for both of us but we always drop a few extra bucks because we appreciate them. They make the best chorizo I've ever had and I'd have to say that it's probably my favorite lunch. We always leave with big smiles on our faces; they should raise their prices. But in general, yeah most places aren't worth what you pay, especially given that I'm a great cook and mostly can do better in my own kitchen for a fraction of the price. At least in my town, the best joints are owned and operated by immigrants. Almost all the rest of the restaurants here are mediocre at best. Tomorrow I'm getting lunch take out from the best Chinese I've ever had in my life. They're immigrants too (and their prices are actually pretty right on the money, value wise). I live in a smallish town but grew up in Chicago and I cannot believe how many excellent ethnic food joints we have here. It's weird and I bet that my town isn't normal as far as restaurants goes.
The $40.00 you pay today at any eatery is the $4.00 you would have paid 50 years ago. Prices have gone up because the purchasing power of the dollar has fallen through the printers going *BRRRRR!!*
Hello from Brisbane, Australia. Interesting that you have so many fast food chains with similar menu choices. I did wonder about how many of these store closures were for franchisees and corporate office mismanagement. Supply chain issues and increasing costs really expose those marginally profitable stores. Economic times have changed.
Go to mom and pop owned hole in the wall. Better food, better prices. I could care less if all the corporate chains closed tomorrow. I refuse to pay their prices or eat their unhealthy crap.
Blame adults. Try getting your lawn cut, snow shoveled, newspaper delivered, grocery deliveries. Adults took over entire neighborhoods, monopolized the business, and fixed the prices. Word of mouth gets kids these jobs now. Hate these adults that took over and demanded not just higher prices, but demanded tips.
Lots more places for kids to get summer jobs. I see so many help wanted signs everywhere. My first job was a local floral shop, age 15, a trade I learned quickly. After graduating 4 years of college, I worked and still do in the retail and wholesale floral, and event planning industry, now for over 50 years, I am now 66. No excuses.
I think most people here are missing the point, it's not about high prices and food quality, it's about all the people who are employed by these businesses that are now unemployed.
Again not about feeling sorry for anyone it's about what this means for the entire economic system. It starts with these fast food jobs and then begins spreading like a cancer to other sectors of the workforce. This is a terrible sign for the US economy and it seems the majority of comments on this video are completely missing what's going on here.
It's the most common crisis of capitalism. It's called the Crisis of Overproduction/under-consumption and the falling rate of profit. When workers can't afford to buy the products they produce or the services they offer, the business goes belly up. That's why we have to go to socialism soon to ensure everyone can survive.
As somebody that lives in Indianapolis, I can definitely tell you that the pandemic has made such a high impact on Steak-n-Shake. The one downtown by Circle Centre Mall used to be 24 hours, now they close at midnight. There used to be one close to my home that’s been closed down for 4 years and now being converted into a veterinary clinic. Also in Evansville they don’t have anymore of them either.
Exactly… I live near the 71 st and corporate drive location… always had an issue there…. I never understood what the issue was … they tried doing carry out only…. That didn’t last long… needless to say they have shut down,,, 38th street… food was always spoiled… lots of sickness!!! They have since shut down as well!
@@tiphannyk I live on the west side by the airport and before I moved into my current place, I used to live by Beech Grove and there’s this Rally’s on Emerson Ave. that has closed down multiple times due to health violations. I’ve only lived in Indy for 5 years (used to live in southwestern Indiana in a town called Princeton) and even in my relatively short time living in the city I’ve seen and heard of so many changes. Heck ever since the mass shooting happened at Greenwood Mall, I’ve heard that mall has been super dead and multiple businesses have either closed down inside the mall or at the minimum reduced their hours after the fact since nobody’s visiting that mall anymore.
Most of these companies are huge and have been around a long time. Man oh live, people were willing to endure their first price increases, but have reached their limit. The amount of jobs being lost is frightening, but what's even worse, is there are no other jobs to replace them. Mass homelessness is fast on it's way and it's too big to handle.
As far as mass homelessness goes I would say that we're already there. Oh sure there's room for it to get worse and it probably will. But I would say that we've taken probably the first 10 steps into that world long time ago. I mean I can certainly say that here in Ohio it's definitely a thing I live in central Ohio and I can tell you that my town fluctuates a bit in population but it's pretty much around 42,000 people and yet I would say over the course of the past five to six years I've seen the homeless population increased 200%. Pretty much every end of town you go to and to be honest even the small town adjacent to my town you can see them as well of course I'm also seeing them out in the middle of nowhere you know you go out the countryside to do a little fishing they're out there for some of them folks I imagine they know how to live on the outskirts of society and they're trying to avoid the police it's not a matter of they're wanted by the law they just don't want any trouble. Of course I've noticed that that is become their game you can always tell the ones that aren't a tweaker by the way that's the majority of them from the ones that are a tweaker just simply based on where you see them at a lot of them do come into town but I also noticed how a lot of them don't stay that long and it's possible to see literally the same person on the outer fringes of the city. Not all of them function in groups although I will say they do tend to have their communication networks as well as their meeting place networks I can say that down the street from me here there must be some undisclosed meeting point or some theorize a camp although it doesn't seem to be visible to the residents to where no one's really complaining but at any given hour of the day or night you can see them walking up and down the street it's pretty obvious and I can certainly say that in about every end of the town that I have worked at or even been through you can see them at any given time like I said some of them they literally make an effort to not be seen if they can help it and then there are those that I think their mind went long time ago they don't even care. Of course I am not suggesting that they should hide themselves away I merely just saying that I understand why they're doing it. I mean to be honest if I was a bit more adventurous just to conduct an investigation because I'm curious I think it would almost be worth it to go pretend to be a homeless person for at least a couple of weeks to see how much of their Network you can really figure out because they always seem to know where to go for things and they always seem to be able to raise a couple dollars without necessarily panhandling or stealing shit they've got some sort of network I just know it I've seen what I believe to be the outlines of it but I can't really prove it. And the only reason I bring all that up is simply because I will say that channels like this day in and day out tell us that our world is collapsing and then of course a lot of people in the comments fear things like massive homelessness however homelessness or becoming homelessness or the concept of mass of homelessness only really truly applies to those of us who aren't homeless yet the people that's already out there that's been out there for any considerable amount of time well our world is dead to them anyway and has been for quite some time I believe this is why they have set up networks. It's rather strange it's like they know that we exist they can physically see us they do shop at some of the same stores that we do etc you know gas stations and what not perhaps even a Walmart every now and again I mean they're still human but as far as actually having any real contact or interaction with us they really don't in many respects many of them act as if we don't even exist and I don't think it's drug-induced I think they're just literally doing their own thing I'm not going to stand here and say that they're happy and I'm not necessarily trying to romanticize it but what I am going to say is simply that I believe that they have left what we refer to is our world behind and they've done so long time ago and it's almost as if people who end up out there stand a chance of discovering these networks they get ushered into it and find out that maybe it's not really all that bad being out there. to be honest I believe that the real reason why the politicians in any real capacity is worried about homelessness is simply because if it looks like a good time they're afraid that everyone else is going to be more than willing to join them particularly in warmer climates so there goes your tax money there goes what's left of corporations if everybody drop the ball tomorrow and said fuck this shit and went to go enjoy themselves in the Sun for once and perhaps have an actual night out then all the sudden the politicians the general government structure as well as the corporations don't amount to heal the beans nobody's following their rules it doesn't mean that we're going to conduct chaos and kill each other it just simply means we no longer give a fuck about pursuing they're worthless money. Of course I think that that is the folly of modern politics and modern US government habits is simply they don't know any better but to put the squeeze on us because this is what they've done for years is police the population that's all they know to do here's the problem you can only fuck somebody in the ass for so long before they say enough sometimes it may not necessarily be that they're going to turn around and blast you upside the fucking skull it might be that they're just going to run away and you're never going to see them again.
In contraction with my previous long comment... I think that there's a real chance that people of all walks of life are coming around to the concept that pursuing a never-ending pursuit of never enough money not only in the name of materialism but in a false belief that if you continuously buy shit you're going to feel good I think that they're coming around with concept that it's nonsense I think the people are still willing to consume it's just a matter of I think they're not only being forced to do so within their budget but I think that they're purposely setting up a small budget in other words I think the population might be trying to pivot back towards being savers rather than spenders. Of course it's difficult to do that when the cost of living continuously goes up it says I said previously all the government and the corporations know to do is continuously fleece the population for money the problem is simply we are at the end of our rope because if we're forced out on the street we're probably not going to be so willing to partake in the system I know that if I was homeless I'm not going to work tomorrow fuck your jobs fuck your corporation and screw your presidents piss all over Congress I really don't care at that point what do I give a shit? Here's the deal I have over 20 years business experience I'm 38 years old I started Young and I've had the displeasure of being in corporate management for quite some time on top of my Independent Business experience and I can certainly say that what I have noticed over the course of the past 6 years is that people of all walks of life and all ranks throughout the job are walking off the job. You know there's a lot of dick wagging that's directed towards and or it's about the young people claiming that they're loafers and they just float from job to job etc. But I can certainly say that in reality it's a hell of a lot of us managers closer to if not over the age of 40 that's been doing that and the reason why we've been doing it is simply because look we haven't found a company worth the shit to stay at they all have unrealistic goals they literally want you to fire people over stupid shit even though you're already understaffed in many cases the understaffing that exists is not the fault of lazy people in the public it is simply because the company says we cannot hire but only so many people and then when we do hire a person it's primarily so that they can collect the work opportunity tax credit so we scheduled them for a shit amount of hours those people 5 minutes after taking the job are already on the hunt for another job. At the management level they have devalued the jobs. So you know 20 to 25 years ago in many respects even 17 years ago a lot of assistant managers would make some weird about five thousand dollars less than the store manager yeah there were some that did $10,000 less but that was usually on the high end. So basically what I'm talking about is your typical store manager would get say 25 years ago you're looking at 40 to $50,000 a year so then your assistant story manager would be paid 30 to 35,000 a year usually coming in at 35 like I said they were usually within 5000 of each other. But then of course you also have the Advent of managers that made 50 to 60,000 a year so then the assistant manager would be able to get anywhere between 40 and 45,000 a year if not possibly 50 to 55,000 a year okay they made real money is the general point it's simply they used to make money that the fucking position actually had meaning and value. Nowadays you have a situation to wear the workload has vastly increased as well as responsibility and yet most companies don't care to pay an assistant manager anymore than $14 an hour. Of course the other thing is simply that the days of the store manager getting you know 50 60,000 a year is about over I'm now seeing that they're advertising 40 to 50,000 for a lot of those positions that I know for fact you used to pay in the uppers of $60,000 a year in other cases it gets worse to where they've dropped it from 50 to 60,000 to 30 to 40,000 so it's literally a $20,000 pay decrease and this is just happened within the past 12 months. It's fucking insane and then these companies have nerve enough to blab all over the Internet and or news channels and claim that everybody's losing their work ethic when they're the ones that's ripping the incentive away. Of course there are those minions within the public sphere who believes that the company is cracked they believe that people really shouldn't bitch about what they're paying for my point of view I generally refer to those folks as corporate stooges

We stopped long time ago going to Pollo Loco cuz even way before the pandemic it has become unaffordable, Chipotle after the pandemic their portion sizes are significantly smaller now, McDo has always been more pricey than other burger chains, In n Out burger patties are very thin & seems smaller it's like vege burger with more veges than meat. And i learned I'm quite a good cook thanks to UA-cam & Google for recipes so I'm cooking more now at home. I learned the dishes that i particularly like in restaurants. So now i cook them instead of paying expensive prices plus tips in restaurants!
The last time I paid for El Pollo they only filled the large potato cup halfway! I got so mad when I saw that. It's so expensive and they don't even fill up the cups. Refuse to go back now.
During the "pandemic ", I bought a smoker, and it is the best thing ever . We rarely eat out anymore. Ribs , brisket , chicken, baked beans, pork chops , meatloaf, and shrimp are regular meals for us . The food is just as good, and we actually save money .
I'm looking at Popeye's and Chick-fil-A's profolio and there is absolutely not a sign of any type of financial distress. As a matter fact they're expanding.
What do all these places typically have in common? Customers were middle class. Food was overpriced and typically not good. Employees couldn't give quality customer service if their paychecks depended upon it. Oh...and newsflash folks, you're in the middle of an economic and society collapse that has been preplanned. Figure it out and take action.

CFA raised its prices to “too expensive to eat there.” I sent them an email and the response I got was basically “oh well!” They also have abandoned what made them successful, and that was honoring God. Truett Cathy built this restaurant with biblical principles as his guide, and God blessed him for it. Now his family cares more about what everyone else thinks or does than what God says, and they have stopped trusting Him and are trying to do it their way. God blessed Truett for honoring Him, and his family has lost sight of their father’s vision and guidance.
imissnj2: Yeah, it's bad enough when corporations make big mistakes which turn customers off. But it's REALLY stupid when they ignore input from their customers as their business goes down the tubes. I'll tell you why most of these places are closing. The arrogant employees act like you're disturbing them when you go to order. No customer skills whatsoever.
Not worried at all about this. The restaurant business is a dog eat dog business. For the most part the raw ingredients used in a lot of restaurants are cheap in price/cost compared to the same items in a topical grocery store because of item size, I know for myself I do a lot of purchases of food and other items for my household at restaurant supply stores. Then you add in energy and personal and retail rent/lease costs, water / sewer costs and the profit margin shrinks. Restaurants are like owning a 18 wheeler if the wheels aren’t turning you are not making money. Also as long term leases come up for renewal it’s easy to say that corporate with chose not to renew a lease because generally these leases run on 5 , 10, 15 year cycles. My opinion is as these leases come up for renewal and most likely at a higher cost they will close the the store because it’s cheaper then trying to break a lease contract. The only other way is to declare bankruptcy to break a lease contract. So undoubtedly you are going to see a wave of store closings as a life cycle of business operations to focus on other opportunities or just plain go out of business. One segment of the restaurant business not focused on here and other articles is the restaurant equipment supply business. Someone getting into the business can buy used restaurant equipment mainly kitchen equipment at a big discount. I myself go to one restaurant equipment supply store and go directly to their used equipment section and find great deals on used kitchen equipment that I use at home in my own kitchen. So it’s all not all doom and gloom in the food industry business.
I've noticed that KFC's biscuits, the last time I was there earlier this year, was the size of an Oreo cookie. The shrinking of products, while the price goes up...deserves to have people no longer buying it! Inflation is TERRIBLE right now. As wages stagnate and profits increase.
Our KFC the last time I went there 2 years ago the chicken was old and dry. Couldn't believe they actually served us that gross food. Haven't been back since.
I welcome the closing of these fast food stores. I’m sick and tired of the portions decreasing and prices increasing. It’s just makes me sick because every business blames the pandemic. Speaking of McDonald’s a sweet tea cost $1 a year ago, today they cost $2. A soda at Panera Bread is $3.09, If you buy a pick two (soup and sand or soup and salad), a beverage and bakery item it will cost over $14 in St Louis. They rolled out “a duet” menu item for $6 which is basically a pick two of predetermined choices. Before I knew it they raised the price to $7 one month later. You used to get a bakery item for $1 if you bought a pick two with a beverage. Now it’s only 50% off. It costs as much at Panera as it does at a local steak house. It just really makes me angry. I’ll get off my soap box now.
Someone tell me the cheese sticks at Arby’s didn’t change a couple months back ? I only ever ate fast food from Arby’s and only their cheese sticks. And I’m telling you they changed big time , they suck now.

I wonder how Burger King stays in business. I always see the locations around me empty at lunch and dinner time while McDonalds and Wendys are crowded. If you go into one of these restaurants near where I live (at any time of day or night) it seems like only one or two people are working there. Well I can say for economic reasons yes definitely there's been a growing number of the population within the past 10 to 15 years that's definitely quit eating out oh and by the way they are those millennial folks. Which it turns out I'm one of them at the age of 38 and I cook a variety of meals I always have and I will say that there has been numerous bullshit articles come out in the past several years blaming millennials wishing to stay home and cook their own meals for the reason why a lot of these restaurants are failing I don't fully buy it. The reason I don't buy it and I think it's about stupid to blame the millennials or even the Gen Z nowadays is simply because for instance I was born in 1985 so between the years of 1985 and 2001 I didn't have a driver's license it wasn't until very early 2001 that I received a driver's license and was independent and could then take the money I worked for and choose whatever restaurant I would like. Meaning for a fair portion of these restaurants existence during my lifetime so 16 years at the very bare minimum of my lifetime I and my fucking age group and those definitely younger than me were taken out of the equation anyhow we did not buy this meals at those restaurants and many of our parents never went to those restaurants so you can't really blame us because if we rarely went there as we got older or never went at all but we definitely didn't choose to go there when we were children then you can't really blame us because we never had any skin in the game to begin with. I mean once in awhile my wife and I will hit up applebees but to be honest I'm not really impressed with their menu they're offerings to me are very outdated they still want to go on about the spinach and the Arctic choke dip and then everything is Mingo orientated because they like saying mango and they want to overcharge for it and of course they themselves are also still hung up on every other thing being avocado. And their appetizers have always been a ripoff for six lousy freaking cheese sticks and a shitty little thing of dips they want you know what 12 13 bucks for that when you know that they could have easily went across the street and bought that shit at Walmart. I mean the steaks aren't bad the portions are a little small but the thing that drives me nuts about them and many other restaurants that still serve steak and mashed potatoes is simply they don't offer gravy how the hell do you do that in America I mean to be honest that qualifies that they deserve to go out of business right there.
Popeyes and Chick A Fil will still be around. I don't think they going away anytime soon. Quizno's is closing down because of bad management and changing of the menus.
They are closing in areas where there is more poverty but all in all the industry is strong ,fast casual restaurants are still popping around in great locations ,location location location 🎉
people are eating out less because the quality of fast food it terrible, it's worse than terrible, huge dissapointement every time you go to one of these so called restaurants, leaves you saying, why did I do that to myself? These corporations are spending the money on everything but the food! PS, chick fil a is terrible food, sorry folks, stop going there, that is horrible, if you think chick fil a tastes good maybe you had a concussion in the past or something, it's not, it's terrible.
Chik-Fil-A has also joined the list of businesses that went woke and received much backlash. Their quality of service coupled with ambience in a recent visit were a major disappointment.
I went for lunch there was not overly impressed with either the sandwich or fries. It was average at best, cost more than it should and haven't been back since. It has closed shop recently. I buy food at my local military commissary and save a bundle when compared to the cost of food at a fast food joint. For the price of one mean, I can make superior burgers and eat for 3 to 4 days for the same cost. Doesn't make sense. Plus the wages they are forced to pay workers can't help.
However, no specific mention of the alphabet posse noted on their website. Ever notice all these restaurants were started by local people and had success, then corporations took over and the quality went down
Perhaps in your area but I can assure you that shoney's restaurants still exist they do not have the high numbers that they once had I believe they have somewhere below 100 restaurants and they're largely in the South to Southeast.
In fact I believe to this day there are certain products at Lee's chicken actually gets supplied with from shoney's by now Lee's could have changed their suppliers but I do know in the early 2000s they were still buying certain products from shoney's shoney's actually used to own chicken.
You nailed it!
And why not, as it’s all about money! Even how our Federal government runs; MONEY
It starts out being about the product, then corporate ruins it by franchising and making it all about cutting quality and maximizing profit.
Your palate got a reset back to real food!
It always made you sick you just didn't notice before!
I have been SHOCKED at how bad some 'fast food' tastes 'now' - post pan. It's like eating soggy tasteless paper. WTF?
One of the biggest reasons for failures of these restaurants is price.
One can go to a diner or family restaurant and have a sit down meal brought to you for less than the cost of a meal at a fast food chain.
I have seen an 11-year-old child eat over $25 worth of food at a Chick-Fil-A. There is NO EXCUSE for these kind of prices. A modest meal at the "golden arches" will cost you in the neighborhood of $15 to $20. I can go to the local diner for less - including tip - and not walk away hungry.
These places are pricing themselves out of the market.
Good, the faster the better. My husband and I only go to local places now, and thats once a month instead of once a week.
May they continue until they are no more.
I cook for my self and my family, who is still eating that junk fastfood and restaurants are serving these days. Gross

Apparently, America is becoming a service economy no longer in need of its own services; learning to live without them _the hard way._

Well I would say that dairy Queen is a very interesting case,
And the main reason I say that is because in many respects their comparable to Pizza Hut and Domino's Pizza in one particular arena.

Its like $45 for two people to eat. I might as well just go to a real restaurant or cook for myself.

The biggest costs for all restaurants starts before even talking about food. Building costs/rent and Property Taxes.

I'll bet not one upper executive in any of these corporations took a pay cut to attempt to help their company. I wonder how many locations it takes to pay their salaries alone?
@Joshua know plenty about economics,,,, cutting stores is a one time gain and will not lead to saving a company from bad management.
When employees can’t afford to buy their own products, disaster is in the wind. Same for McDonalds, Ford, golf, concerts etc.

I'm especially not about to go to a " fine dining establishment " and pay 4 times the cost
AGREE, Save your money till you can do a "fine dining" then get GREAT food at the higher price BUT i feel that worth it..Just sayin

From where I'm sitting it's not Christian's who are doing the judging, it's the freak show who judges and then tries to cancel those they don't like without thinking.
The same freak show who cancelled Aunt Jemima and Land O Lakes butter, yes, those whinny little bitches. 👌
Yeah Chick-fil-A picked the worst time ever to get in on the ESG garbage with their business slowing down as it is so good chance Chick-fil-A might actually just go away which would be really weird considering if they've been the king for what a decade now?
Overexpansion is at the heart of the majority of these store closures.
Supply chain problems that never existed before 2021 for some unexplained reason, food processing plants exploding and burning down and the new environmental restriction being imposed on farming its almost if our government is waging a war on food itself?
We have lost our downtown, restaurants, stores, etc. It's horrible.
Good riddance to their poison Slop.
hey, I said that. also how much pesticide and nitrate's per/ft = Subway
Exactly. I will not miss any of these frypits.
Looks like milliniel are finally paying attention to the cooking videos on UA-cam. 😂
I'll tell you why most of these places are closing. The arrogant employees act like you're disturbing them when you go to order. No customer skills whatsoever.
They think they are intiled
They expand too rapidly. All of these food chains are are everywhere!
Good 👍🏾 bye bye. Spending 15 dollars for nasty food isnt optimal anymore
Krispy Kreme is over rated if the donuts aren't warm.
Someone tell me the cheese sticks at Arby’s didn’t change a couple months back ? I only ever ate fast food from Arby’s and only their cheese sticks. And I’m telling you they changed big time , they suck now.
I'm not relatively stores close down. I really don't buy junk food anyway and because I live a simple life. I've basically cooked most of my food anyway.
me too but…. it looks delicious. yummmmm
Buying the proper food and preparing it the right way, makes a big difference.
@@caroline61804 I agreed but you can definitely do-it-yourself. My friend. You're better off I'm special. I'll brand in the US most people spend a lot of money buying junk food. It's not worth it..
I attempted to eat at Panera yesterday. $22 for 2 small bowls of soup. I refuse to pay that much for that soup! Ridiculous! I came home and made a beef stew. Had to wait a few hours to eat but much better than paying that crazy amount of money!
Welcome to the retail apocalypse everyone!!!
No 💩
A lot of empty commercial property
dude get a clue, chick-fil-a isnt going anywhere , the vast majority of there locations are cash cows
I wonder how Burger King stays in business. I always see the locations around me empty at lunch and dinner time while McDonalds and Wendys are crowded. If you go into one of these restaurants near where I live (at any time of day or night) it seems like only one or two people are working there. One of the BKs near me is closed on weekend due to staff shortages, and that's normally when these places do the best business. I can't believe they aren't on this list.
They are owned by the Chinese. They don't need to make a big profit.
@@Number6_ Not according to their listing. They are owned by Restaurant Brands International, an Am-Can company and is based in Miami Fl., they also own Popeyes, that is on this list.
@@EvilLordBane burger king, KFC, and 4 others all owned by yum yum corp. Owned by Chinese gov. Your list might need updating unless they bought int. brands.
@@Number6_ I think your confused. Yum Inc. owns Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell, and The Burger Grill. Burger King, like I said, is owned by Restaurant Brands International, according to it's wiki page and stock listing.
@@EvilLordBane I bow to your research. You are right.
Corporate chains constantly open and close locations.
Leases expire or rents go up.
Local work force changes can also be in play.
Yeah it's really NOTHING new. Normal churn and you always see more of it when the economy slows. The marginal stores go.
I treat myself to one Big Mac about once every 3 years and I'm good. The rest of the time I just cook and eat at home.
Usually when the original owner sells the business, the food goes downhill. Really has nothing to do with the economy.
@@cowtowndowntown We know many people (including ourselves) who have quit eating out- all together.
Here. You could use a few of these: …….,,,,,,,,…..,,,,,,
Wow, thanks for sharing.
The way Mr Bot said Steak ‘n Shake😂💀
Popeyes and Chick A Fil will still be around. I don't think they going away anytime soon. Quizno's is closing down because of bad management and changing of the menus.
They are closing in areas where there is more poverty but all in all the industry is strong ,fast casual restaurants are still popping around in great locations ,location location location 🎉
They could start by slashing CEO salaries and bonuses They do nothing but slurp up profits ... Pay them the same rate as the store front employees
I hope their cowardly “go along to get along” CEOs are real happy with what they have helped accomplish over the past 4 years!!!
I had no idea Quiznos was still open.
Chick-fil-a? Really that place is pack morning to night at every location.
Can't watch the video with all the 'flashing' going on - and for no apparent reason for it.
Food is worse, service a joke, nasty facilities, and higher prices! What a combo!
Honestly
You ain’t lying and everyone wants a tip now
A lot of Togo's sandwich shops in California have been closing. I don't think they're doing too well.
Quantity goes down, Quality goes down, Service goes down...Prices go up...Let them burn
people are eating out less because the quality of fast food it terrible, it's worse than terrible, huge dissapointement every time you go to one of these so called restaurants, leaves you saying, why did I do that to myself?
These corporations are spending the money on everything but the food!
PS, chick fil a is terrible food, sorry folks, stop going there, that is horrible, if you think chick fil a tastes good maybe you had a concussion in the past or something, it's not, it's terrible.
2 things that complicate our life, thinking and eating. We do niether of them well.
You cannot stay in business paying high school students $25.00 a hour or more. Just does not work.
Chik-Fil-A has also joined the list of businesses that went woke and received much backlash. Their quality of service coupled with ambience in a recent visit were a major disappointment.
Go woke go broke
I went for lunch there was not overly impressed with either the sandwich or fries. It was average at best, cost more than it should and haven't been back since. It has closed shop recently.
I buy food at my local military commissary and save a bundle when compared to the cost of food at a fast food joint. For the price of one mean, I can make superior burgers and eat for 3 to 4 days for the same cost. Doesn't make sense. Plus the wages they are forced to pay workers can't help.
