Do the staves have to curve down? In other words, can I use a table saw at an angle which will make it more straight rather than curved. This barrel will be for decoration and not filled with any liquid
Great video! I had one question. It looked like you had the table to your router set at the angle needed to cut the bevel for the staves. Is that correct?
Thank you very much!!! In order to make a metal “working” hoop, you need to calculate the approximate circumference at the edge of the barrel and a little closer to the middle of the barrel. With the help of these “working” hoops you will assemble a barrel. And on the finished, polished barrel it will be necessary to make “permanent” finishing hoops... At the end of this video, I show how to make “permanent” hoops. ua-cam.com/video/ci-98P-yQSg/v-deo.html

If you glue barrel staves together and remove the hoops, then after filling a wooden barrel with water, the wood will begin to swell and the barrel may fall apart...

I use oak, maple, mulberry, ash, acacia, cherry, apple, pear, linden wood for the manufacture of barrels. I also want to make barrels out of apricot, plum, chestnut...
For a 12" barrel (which equals 30.48 cm), I recommend using 20 staves 5.0 cm wide at the widest part and 4.6 cm wide at the edges. The angle of the side faces of each riveting should be 9 degrees.
