Really enjoyed the Video of your work. My Father recently built a wine barrel table for my wife and me he joined 4 of the top rounds to make a 4 leaf clover type table top it turned out really nice. The door hinge we have for the storage is not what he had hoped for the door sags a bit..The hinges you used look to be the perfect solution. I looked in the comments below but could not find the link to the hinges you mentioned in one of your replies. I was hoping you wouldn't mind posting it again.
Thank you! The hinges are referred in German as "Kistenband" and are available at us in every hardware store. Awesome job!!! I really like your channel. I wish I could have some of the nice tools you do.... I'm doing a storage wine barrel, with double door, usually I'm doing 2 ,but got stuck with the hinges, I watched some videos and some the do the hinges over the metal ring, I did on the outside,,2 in the middle of the door together but it doesn't work ,I tried close to the ends but the door won't open! an ideas ? I got the barrels almost done just the hinges are giving me hard time and I really don't know what to do o how. Thanks for your help!
Can’t sand it near this level with 40 grit paper, tried ordinary electric sanders, circular pad attachment for drill, just bucks the drill too uncontrollable, and hand sanding, takes me an hour to get one little bit half bare. And you did it with a palm sander?
Very nice job! What is the headless screw that you use to screw through the metal into the wood to avoid the woods from falling out when you cut the door? Can you tell me please? Thank you!
Many Thanks. I have taken the BBQ grate because I store my BBQ accessories in the barrel - it stands next to my grill (seen in another video). So it just goes well with the theme and if some grease gets to the tray, the grate is easy to clean (In the barrel bottom I have inserted as a protection a plastic disc). But it is easily replaced by any other shelf.
Cool idea for the grate but why did you use the hinge grate with the removable center. You could have just used the standard grate and would have been cheaper ? The hinge grate is in the upper $ 30 and the standard grate is in the $20 range? I'm just curious 🤷♂️
Hi. I installed the hinges with a bit of pretension and to relieve the hinges, I installed a double ball catch as a lock. The door therefore rests slightly on the lock when it is closed. Works pretty well so far.
Thank you. I used ADLER Varicolor (Universal matt primer coating and topcoat for wood and metal, indoor and outdoor) mobile.adler-lacke.com/index.php?id=1001&type=11&categoryID=34&maincategoryID=5&productID=9528&cHash=6f10a5e49cce5e909469cf00cb2b40b2&type=11
I'm having trouble planning my hinges. This might be the way I go. But why put the ring on the inside? Won't the outside steel ring hold everything together?
I was afraid that the outer rings would bend with longer use. They are basically just drawstrings that pull the boards together and keep them in shape. Cut through, they now have to absorb bending stress when opening (and closing) the door. This should now be reduced by the additional inner bands.
I'm sorry, I can't remember how long it took me. I didn't write down the hours or pay attention to efficiency at work. It's a hobby for me and I do it for fun.
Hi, thank you. I make the horizontal cuts with an angle grinder (with wood cutting blade >> 3:45 in video). I cut only the corners of the door with the jigsaw
I use a standard angle grinder (Bosch GWS xx-125) with a saw blade for wood (bought on amazon). eg. www.amazon.com/Gunpla-Pieces-General-Purpose-Cutting/dp/B07GBSVYN9/ref=sr_1_4?crid=Y7PMY0XBA88E&keywords=angle+grinder+saw+blade+for+wood&qid=1581794486&sprefix=angle+grinder+saw+blade%2Caps%2C265&sr=8-4
I have seen videos were the cuts are made with a circular saw, but .... I was afraid that I would not achieve a horizontal cut in both axes with the circular saw. If you place the circular saw on the surface of the barrel, an sloping cut takes place. But I thought, if I cut freehand with the circular saw, the risk of jaming the saw blade is to high for me. Therefore my decision was to use an angle grinder with saw blade and the use of a guide. It worked great for me. But I think with appropriate caution, both variants work. Safety first!
Hello, I have bought the hinges in the next hardware store (The hinges are also available at Amazon - see link with the dimensions 250mmx40mm) . Thank you. This is a Makita 2107FK band saw. This band saw is for metal. No special adjustment. I only build a stand to use it as a stationary tool.
where did you source the hinges?
Para que quiero una rejilla adentro de un barril?. Creo que sería más útil de madera. Buen trabajo.
Gracias. La rejilla que elegí para que pueda ver el hermoso color del vino tinto lo mejor posible cuando abro el barril.
What type of hinges should I use? I made a similar style from my barrel but im finding the door is sagging and its a pain to close now.

Did you coat the inside of the barrel as well?
No. It would have been a shame about the good wine smell. The barrel still smells of wine. I'm always happy when I open the barrel.
What kind of screws did you use on the staves/straps?
I have used standard wood screws 3,5mm x 20mm (galvanized)......many of them 😉
