On 17 October 1989, I can remember watching Game 3 of the Major League Baseball World Series on television; vividly. Just before the television coverage had temporarily faded to black, sportscaster Al Michaels, who had been working for ABC Sports, had said that Candlestick Park had been shaken by an earthquake 😳😱🫢. I doubt I will ever forget those above-mentioned very scary moments.
We came to SF in 1954 when I was 3 and a half and back then there were streetcars on the lower level along with trucks. Cars were on the top. Went over it many times over the decades
Caltrans did the double-decker right - they put the westbound traffic into the city on the top level, as it should be. I'm not sure which, but there's a similar bridge in Pittsburgh where the citybound lanes are on the lower level depriving motorists a jaw-dropping view of the skyline. It's a shame.
1.51 and I about lost it. I was so frightened by that bridge. So high, so many lanes. I was traumatized by it. It looks beautiful from a long way off to me. Drove it in 1978.
I was watching that WS game (SF Giants fan here!)... that quake shook my house-and I live 150 miles to the SE! Anyway, congrats on making it to #500! May there be many more.
Congrats on your 500th video!!! $7 for crossing the Bay Bridge? I'd rather take BART instead (which I have done, and it was very quiet and calming). I've crossed the Bridge round-trip in a bus 3 times (1 school and 2 charter), and ALL were before the new alignment even began to take shape. And to make you all humble... I was born the day before Loma Prieta. And the A's beat the Giants in the official "Battle of the Bay" World Series, 3-2. Game 3 was delayed for 3 weeks for obvious reasons, and thank God there wasn't much traffic on the roads that day or else the casualties/fatalities would have been way higher than what they officially were.
Growing up in Northern California in the 80s, I remember it was only 40 cents at the toll to cross the bay bridge. In the 90s it was like a dollar to $2.
Great video

I to remember that faithful day.
I checked the time you drove across the Bay Bridge at night to get a good video. That's dedication.

You may be referring to the Fort Duquesne Bridge; which spans above and across the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh.
I've been on that bridge a lot

Definitely one of the most iconic and beautiful stretches of highway in the United States. A huge congrats on 500 videos!! 🥳🥳
Thank you so much!

Thank you Matt and wow, that’s crazy that you could feel the shaking from that far away!
@@InterstateKyle 7.0 at least will do that. Felt Coalinga in '83 (6.5) and Northridge in '94 as well.
Perfect video for number 500!
Thank you!
Neat lookin bridge and speaking of San Francisco I'm rooting for their NFL football team in the superbowl

What a time to be alive! I think the cheapest I’ve paid is like $5 back in 2012. 😌
Must have been an early Sunday morning since traffic was actually moving.
