Hello shango. I am a 15 year old kid from Bulgaria and I've repaired a couple of our tube sets just from watching and learning from your videos..I just want to thank you and tell you to never stop with videos because they are very interesting and you can learn so much from them.
Our family’s first TV was a Hallicrafters console combination TV, radio, and record player. Beautiful solid oak cabinet. I remember the day it was delivered in early 1952. Six year old me thought it was amazing. I can even tell you the first show that appeared when it was turned on for the first time: Kukla, Fran and Ollie
If I lived near you, I would take all the TVs you were going to discard, here in Brazil they are very rare, if I could get in touch with you I would even pay shipping for one of them. As I'm 17 years old and trying to work with these old pieces of equipment, I try my best to bring each one to life and try to keep them working for a long time!

Had the same situation a few weeks ago. I was very happy to obtain a 1953 Philips "Hondehok" ("Dog House") at a yard sale in Holland for cheap. The CRT looked really good at first, but on closer inspection it came out that one of the pins was heavily corroded and that produced a hairline crack in the glass. Bummer. Thanks for brightening up my Saturday with this great video Mr. Shango!

My first electronics project was a Hartley oscillator using a 6C4 tube. It allowed me to transmit (very short range) on the AM broadcast band. I wound the tuning coil on an oatmeal carton. Ran the HV right off the AC power with an unpolarized plug. Miracle I didn't electrocute myself.

While type 6C4 has been used for the local oscillator in TV tuners, it is actually half a 12AU7 and used for similar applications. As a class C amplifier, plate dissipation is 5W with a 300V supply. The RF oscillator used to generate EHT in this set comes under that category. 150-300kHz is typical for these circuits. No raster on an electrostatic tube even though EHT is present draws attention to leaky deflection plate coupling capacitors since the beam is shifted right off the screen. Re the 6C4 heater flaring on power up, the series heater circuit is the likely cause of this, since the 6C4 draws 150mA and has been shunted with a 39 ohm resistor to use it in the 300mA branch of the heater string. Since the resistor does not have the same temperature coefficient as a tungsten filament, the filament receives excess voltage until all the heaters have warmed up.

I used to have a motorola set that size.. A Guy in LA found me a NOS tube for it for $79. That was 40 years ago. During the week, I maneuver a gasoline tanker around and spend hours watching your videos on my big screen on the weekends. Your skills amaze me. I’ve caught a conservative vibe from your videos. I can’t imagine having conservative values living in California. Tell me, is it challenging?
Thanks for watching it so I didn’t have to. That was a cool departure from the usual sets. I’ve watched a couple of Bob Anderson’s videos on reviving those. Very interesting sets indeed. Good luck on the new workshop!
I was 16 years and my father and I went to a dump. After rummaging around for some time, I found three old electrostatic TV's. One was a Motorola and the two both Hallicrafter. When I got home I took all three apart and made one using the good parts. The set needed some TLC, pots needed some contact cleaner and the push button switches as well. Some time later I had my own TV. Latter on I found an article in Science and Mechanics on how the convert a TV to an oscilloscope. Latter on I converted one of them to an oscilloscope.
Hallicrafters was notorious for buying boatloads of bargain surplus components. That said, their lineup was a true “you get what you pay for” deal. You could get the cheapest of the cheap or the best of the best equipment depending on your budget. Even the cheap stuff was pretty well-made.
The resurrection was great Shango, I didn't know Hallicrafters made a tv! My Hallicrafters S 20R stills pulls in good signals even with an old marine antenna here in South Australia. But your right, the debate was hard to watch. It's not good making fun of a deranged feeble old man, but the other fellow was spot on.
As it started, I had my hopes up that this would be one of your EOL videos, but after all the work you did with it, I was relieved that it wasn't. Well done! The debate was disaster enough...

Shango, what do you think of the FNIRSI scope meter, so far?
Hey Shango! I'm a 68 yr. Old Canuk! I've been enjoying your vids. I went to college in 71 for a electronics technician. Zenith tvs, radios were great! When RCA went to solid state they had alot of problems and their engineers cut alot of of good components to save $$$! Did you have the same problems in the U.S., too??😅
Regarding your doom and gloom about the US currency situation... The nice thing about the US Dollar NOT being pegged to gold is that it's buying power floats on its own without gold. If you increase the money supply by 40%, you shouldn't be surprised if prices rise about the same amount. In fact, if you get a 40% raise to your paycheck to match the 40% increase in prices due to the lost dollar buying-power, then it's a complete WASH! You're going to have the same buying power as you did before prices raised the 40%. But one thing doesn't rise -- debts. Your old debts will be easier for you to pay off in the depreciated dollars.
I love that - seen that on old VC2 units when people would replace the blown 100mH inductors with 100k resistors. "Inductors OPPOSE the change in current - I can just resist the current going through right?" (Sure, in DC land)
Good work! Not sure how much of our present-day 'tech' will be restorable in 80 years? As an aside, here in l'il olde England there were no ES-deflected TVs made commercially post-WW2 although there were plenty built by ex-Servicemen using war-surplus parts.
Testing and changing the capacitors first can save some headache later. Stuff doesn't go bad until it does. I fixed a washing machine (I think, it completed one cycle without problems), that was really hard to figure out. One of the 0603 resistors turned out to be bad (supposed to be 4.64K taken out of circuit measures 120K) and another 0603 possibly had a cold solder joint. Yeah, how often do SMD resistors fail? I rarely see tube TVs for sale and when I do I really want one, but right now I do not have the space for it. It would be fun trying to restore one.
Because Americans have been on top (or so they think) for so long that they have become lazy, dependent on government, unable to think for themselves and would rather play video games than pay attention to their government. The average voter just votes for the candidate that promises the most free stuff or spews the most finely crafted bullshit!
The 6C4 is a medium-mu triode similar to half a 12AU7. The maximum ratings state it has a plate disapation of 3.5 watts class A, 5 watts class C. It can be used as an AF preamplifier. It is sometimes used in TV tuners. Also it can be used as a class C RF power amplifier where it has an output of 5.5 watts with a plate voltage of 300 volts and current of 25 milliamps. This is probably how it has been applied to generate the high voltage likely running less power to extend life.
What numbers are you looking at? ...in my city crime is down as a mater of fact it down across the country...I blame the companies for high prices.....I remember at the start of COVID they said that shipping is bad and the cost is going to go up but as soon as shipping is fixed prices will go down...good videos by the way
I got a huge service box of old tubes from the 60s or 70s wonder what they are worth also a Simpson 479 fm tv signal generator. I see thats worth about 320 what it cost new in 1956. That didnt keep its value.
Our governments, on all levels, and both major parties, are so narfobrokulated that i can't vote for anybody running for office. Worst of all, the moral standards of our leadership and most of us in general are in a race to the bottom. In November, for U. S. President, I will request a write-in, and write "narfobrokulate".
It was nice to see you get results with this very old cheap T.V. Set. I don't think you told us how you fixed the intermittent Focus circuit problem though.
I live locally and know of a beautiful 1955 Packer Bell console TV for sale at a local antique store it supposed to work, it is gorgeous, let me know if you want their contact information.
The knowledge of glass fabricating and actually making vacuum tubes I see is amazing. For electronics knowledge most of the repair people on UA-cam are not at the level of an experienced engineer. I see a lot of incorrect information and mistakes from even the best repairmen. Do not believe everything they tell you. If they own a cat listen to what it has to say, they often make useful corrections. UA-cam should require all videos to include at least one kitty.

First of all, I wish you luck on the new building, it should be a big upgrade. That set really fought you all the way to the end, but persistence prevailed. But I see one of the candidates EOL'ed
is the trash cause by the tv or cause Trump is being displayed on it lol
E bom vê uma dedicação igual a sua parabens.
I used to have a motorola set that size.. A Guy in LA found me a NOS tube for it for $79. That was 40 years ago. Neat set, sold it eventually to a collector I just couldn't say no to. $600 in 1983 wasn't chicken scratch! Yeah, the set was near MINT! I was 19 when I rebuilt it.
Once Shango finishes the "Shed", Newsom will tax assess it and move in 10 migrants. On Shango's dime, of course. Yayyy California!! 😆
The bottom of that thing looks like a box of fire crackers
That TV was too good for the bozo debate of the century. Fantastic job resurrecting such a challenging set.
ya know the part that burns my ass is that both parties have had since the first day of Obama's second term to create viable candidates and this is what they came up with....11 1/2 years...and this is the best they could do?
How come it's not all covered in crap? Just a little bit of dust. Come on Shango you can do better than that. And hows about a ratty line cord with dead shorts.Dont forget your Arab Bondage Head Gear thats a nice touch. Dont get me wrong. I love all that stuff. I would rather watch your deal on youtube than regular TV
What do you do with the stuff from the videos later on??
The dumb and dumber debate!
NO, a senile asshole puppet of Obama and the NWO creeps, VS a patriot who is sacrificing all in an effort to save this effed up country! TRUMP probably our last hope before this country is turned into a third world communist authoritarian shithole by the democrats and their accomplices in the Republican party. What do you want, another smarmy, lying, worthless politician who looks good and promises everything, but does nothing?
Shango is speechless, this was practically an EOL video for Biden's presidential reelection. This video was perfect.
I love this channel. I’ve watched you for years and have no electronic experience but love your videos. During the week, I maneuver a gasoline tanker around and spend hours watching your videos on my big screen on the weekends. Your skills amaze me. I’ve caught a conservative vibe from your videos. I can’t imagine having conservative values living in California. Tell me, is it challenging?
The highlight of my Saturdays!
Sleepy joe needs a new set of tubes
Mr. Potato head bombed before the TV. YEA!
Lots of dim bulbs in this episode.
Talk about a race to the bottom. If things keep going the way they are, we'll all end up with a set like this
Trainwrexk ce
Ntra

Cool, a tv that once recieved diaper commercials!
Whatcha think Joey? Pretty cool huh?
Ya think Shango'll get it goin?
What's that you say?
🤔...
Joe makes up words like Shango. Just not as cool as the TV radio and auto wizard.
Been watching your videos for quite some time, I still don’t understand what the light bulb does ?
Thanks for watching it so I didn’t have to. That was a cool departure from the usual sets. I’ve watched a couple of Bob Anderson’s videos on reviving those. Very interesting sets indeed. Good luck on the new workshop!
Shango's channel is the only place where I will voluntarily subject myself to the debates 😂
FJB!

Oh happy modern failing society days!
I really enjoy getting one of these pre 1955 or so TVs from shango... I know your in the state of cancer that causes california, but your a vanishing breed. And I'm happy as a millenial can be in this bolshevik american era.. liberty and freedom for us all!
😅 what
AvE?
The strength of a country is in its ability to choose and believe in their leaders, to keep hope and accountability in check and that is no more. Both candidates are ancient and hollow. Completely in obsolescence.
@@JulianA-tr6ptI'm not 3/5ths as smart as ave, but what a wonderful compliment🥰... he is a north american treasure, just like shango. They should both be preserved, like alton brown, the mythbusters, mr wizard and the like as holodeck programs... sure shango and ave would be from fps view. But a good time for all.
Thanks for posting this, I've been looking forward to this one in particular. Real shame about the CRT.
27:27 I'd have to add shielding if I had one of those sets in this house. That is spot on BBC Radio 4 at 198KHz!
Shango, what do you think of the FNIRSI scope meter, so far?
I wanted to hear his opinion too. I was about to get one but some videos claim they are waaaay off on the advertised specs, like 50% below.
Maybe it's time to send it to bandersontv but that cabinet I don't know but he has a ton of 1B3 tubes
As italian I wonder why it's so hard find decent people to run USA...
Because Americans have been on top (or so they think) for so long that they have become lazy, dependent on government, unable to think for themselves and would rather play video games than pay attention to their government. The average voter just votes for the candidate that promises the most free stuff or spews the most finely crafted bullshit!
in europe we have an even worse shit show going on
The 6C4 is a medium-mu triode similar to half a 12AU7.
WUUUT? No 4th of July EOL? Ah, just throw a radio on the bar-b after your done cooking and film it. The show mus go on!
Brandon went to air and now the entire media is trying to EOL his campaign.
What a circus.
Gosh I want to learn this... I have a Philco holiday full refurbed. Can I come hangout it with you for a week?!?!
Beautiful🌹✨
What do you guys think of glasslingers knowledge?
Good except for the dresses.
UA-cam should require all videos to include at least one kitty.
one of the candidate got focus issues as well. It wasnt the TV !!!
Watching the debate’s is like watching my poop being flushed in the toilet!
