I'm originally from NY where Lou was just about considered a deity. He always shared my no. 1 favorite space with another artist. Someone told me, "But the guy can't sing!" I told him that the depth of Lou's poetry makes up for, and beyond, for not having perhaps a "better" singing voice.
One of the best bands Lou ever had. Phenomenal.
How can this still be legal to do to another human being? The only plus side to this is that it fueled some of Lou's best work!
The song KILL YOUR SONS is about his parents sending Lou to a mental hospital because he was bisexual and they gave him psych meds and electric shock treatment to "cure him of being bisexual", it was Ex Gay Therapy in his day. The psychiatrist killed Lou.
bullshit, by the way i'm almost sure he died some time later
@@maciejzychowicz8052 Actually, it fried Lou's brain. His family said he was never the same. Not only did it change his personality, it destroyed his memory retention.
@@christy7698 I'm not saying that electroshock therapy didn't have major impact on him, but that it was given to him to cure him of being bisexual is a myth created by Lou himself(one of many), and for all i know, all of his records were made after that. so it's bullshit to say psychiatrist killed Lou, whatever you think of psychiatrists
that's all i meant
Love the gritty honesty, and attitude... the lyrics and the laconic delivery in the studio track. As noted, very personal, real and tough underlying subject. The live in italy version guitar solo is worth checking out
Awesome song
The Best Lou Reed 👏👏👏👏👏👏
i am Italian roaming catholic but i do appreciate good EN writing: poetry in words, evoking images that tear your heart .. all with a touch of cynicism (only for who has a functioning brain )
louuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
At 1:55 does the drummer break a stick and then ever so smoothly grabs another one?
Lou's sister says this part of his story doesn't count anymore, and that no one can talk about it while she's in the room or she might get miffed. (See Todd Haynes' 2021 Velvet Underground documentary.)
Thank you lou.im sorry for the payne.
The Gift.
no they didn't, he survived and the rest is history. gz
That drummer man... On point as fuck
Brilliant.
the only, the only one, Jesus live
Musically speaking, "Kill Your Sons" sounds a bit like "Song of a Baker" by the Small Faces -- especially in this slowed-down live arrangement.
nope
Robert Quine looks a little bit like Graham Parker.
I kinda liked the original studio version of the song over this .....this is a key change as well and it sounds too slick. The original was just a drug fucked and totally honest 'gesture'.
😍
Autobiographical 😎
