Thanks, that was very helpful! I have replaced 3 grommets on my backpack leaf blower, so I'm going to definitely try this.

My repair lasted several seasons ended up selling this unit. I’m sure it’s still holding up though. Cheap and simple fix!

Did gluing it shut stop the leak? I'm considering that since I don't have a spare inner tube

Glad it helped! My repair is still holding up perfectly after 2 years now. I didn't want to keep buying new grommets and have the same keep happening.

Thanks, that's a good idea. It's also good in a pinch like my situation, where I need to get by using the weed eater until the rubber grommet shipment arrives.

I found this video while sitting here with no confidence that the new grommet will work any better than the old one, just like you say! I have an older machine, and for all I know the fuel tank is getting old and warped. I was looking for some kind of gooey gasket seal that is fuel resistant, but those are expensive and I do have some old inner tube laying around in the garage...

I can't believe that everyone finds this useful ... and yet I have a question... You show the two tubes coming through the inner tube section, but how does that work with the grommet which has a /bigger/ hole to fit the tank hole? I would have thought that the inner tube would need to have a hole cut with a sharp craft knife to its size?

The leak was occurring where the grommet seats into the fuel tank (not the lines). The layer of inner tube rubber is meant to take up some space of the loose fitting grommet and tighten that seal, not the actual fuel lines. It is still fitting tight and not leaking at all to this day.

Wow! Not often these things work - I used a piece of inner tube - sealed it up perfectly and weeks later it's still holding fuel

Do not use gas with ethanol it as the ethanol dries out and hardens the grommets .
