  • We have recorded a series of interviews with some Rugby League's greatest names, where they share the insights, lessons and techniques they have used to scale their chosen heights.
In the first of this series, we welcome Sam Burgess, the unassuming lad from Bradford who became a modern day gladiator in an unforgiving business.
This open and honest interview with Sam includes:
    - The heartache of nursing his dad through his battle against the cruel Motor Neurone Disease, whilst trying to break through as a teenage tyro at Bradford Bulls RLFC.
    - Taking on the challenge of conquering Australia's National Rugby League when joining South Sydney Rabbitohs, owned by Russell Crowe.
    - The impact Russell had on his career and how he brought him to tears
    - He describes the process of changing mindsets and shaping a winning culture from the perspective of leading a dressing room.
    - Switching to Union and why the 2015 World Cup was a failure in his eyes.

Really beautiful to hear about his father and how he taught him to appreciate the simple things like the sound of the rain and the birds tweeting. It’s incredibly admirable how open and honest he is about this considering the stereotypes around his profession

Really hoping that Sam can make a big impact with his Philosophy on high performance at Warrington Wolves. Its a big job that needs a big strong and decent character to lead a club with huge potential to get to the next level... champions of Super League. Good luck Sam with this new adventure.

Yes, he's got a tough job on. Only TS in recent times has addressed the issues successfully. Very good interview giving insights into him and his philosophy. I'm impressed that he could explain these issues well. A requisite for a good manager is good communication. Good luck Sam.

I have listened to quite a few of these interviews, and I must say that it really is a brilliant podcast, which stems from a brilliant idea. The format is awesome and the guests are superb. But this one has to be my absolute favourite. I was gutted when Burgess went back to the Nrl, but knew it had to be for the right reasons. Always thought he could have and most definitely would have given a lot more to English Rugby Union, but it just wasn't meant to be. Brilliant stories are yet to be told by this man, should have lasted another few hours ;)
ps Also loved the part about his dad. x
    Keep them coming!

Cracking listen. Life’s tribulations….it’s tough. RL megastar or not, they’re hard. One of the best is Sam Burgess.

I see Warrington is in the final at Wembley way to go Sam. His winning motivation is clear off the field too. He said it was his plan to win SAS wdw and he did. Mental and physical fortitude in abundance.

      Cracking interview, Damian.
My biggest takeaway was the idea of stacking habits, so that when crunch time comes, it's almost as though you can rely on something like (mental) muscle memory and the good/right/healthy choice becomes automatic.
      Thanks again for the interview.

Definitely, the idea of setting a deadline. (Need to utilise this myself 👍) Also, the concept of teaching the brain good habits, by sticking to goals, no matter how minor they may be. Great interview, especially regarding Sam's thoughts on his dad, as my own father also died from the terrible disease that is MND.. Thank you, Andy. 👍

I've been a big fan of his rugby ability and his actions with regards to his family (his dad etc, not necessarily his recent incidents with his ex wife). But, I believe he is starting to put on a slight role/media personality and that is disappointing. I'd love to see a fly on the wall style doc of him working with a NSW Cup team - less of him speaking to the camera and more of him getting back into rugby.

@marklythgoe3197 I'd be hoping that Sean Long comes too (from Fev) at least that way, you'll have someone with some excellent coaching experience to support Sam's knowledge/passion.

@@danielbp2942 Seems like they are bringing in Martin Gleeson... not sure Sean Long was ever in the picture.
