Dr. Becky, I have a question for you about bread. Have you ever heard of sprouted bread supposedly made from organic whole grain and other organic ingredients? My question is, will this supplement for white flour bread? It still has carbs though, like 20g per slice. I prefer this over white bread but I may be barking at the moon and just wishful thinking on my part. What do you recommend?

I am a new retiree from nursing. The stresses were so great I alternated ambien, Xanax and melatonin for sleep. I have eliminated all and I sleep much better these days. But a big problem was the melatonin. I started a yoga practice and I had balance issues with dizziness. All gone after 1 month without melatonin. Just had to share my good news!

Exactly Becky. , I was 63 years old weighted 345 pounds went keto and lost 50 pounds and plateaued at 295, started intermittently fasting and lost another 20 pounds and still losing weight . This happened over a span of 1-1/2 years. I will continue wi the healthy rate of weight loss. ( slow and steady) Absolutely no refined carbs at all in my eating and no calorie counting.
I am a big man and want to continue to lose weight until I weight 240 pounds. Although the I don’t watch the scale, I just look in the mirror every morning admiring my transformation and enjoy I well I feel .
    Feeling great and healthy.

I am 77 and have been working hard since retirement to lose weight. So far I'm down 75 lbs and have about 40 more I'd like to shed (but it has become much harder). I have listened to everybody and tried everything but keep coming back to Dr. Becky because she makes sense...no hype...no hard sell...just the facts, ma'am, nothing but the facts AND what she advocates is sustainable. In truth, 0-1-2-3 (along with low-carb emphasis) is the default foundation to any success I've had and in addition Becky seems like a woman you'd like to have as a neighbor or a personal friend. I have no refined sugar in the house. My pantry and my fridge stock ONLY "legal" foods. So she has had a very positive affect on my behavior and outlook.

Im 62 and started keto and intermittent fasting in march 2021. Im no longer pre diabetic, my liver has returned to a normal size, my osteoarthritis is gone, I have lost 20 kilo with minimal exercise, I no longer have excruciating gallbladder attacks, I feel great, have reduced my dress size from a 22 to a 16 but now need a 14! My brain is sharper, my mood is better, and I'm staying on this diet for as long as I live. I'm excited about moving through my sixties now.. Just wish the wrinkles would take a hike!

In June of 2018 I went to my Primary appointment and weighed 354.6 lbs at 5’10 feet tall. My cholesterol was high and pre diabetic with blood sugar at 118. I finally decided to do something. On UA-cam I happened to find the Obesity Code and Dr Jason Fung videos and that started to change my life. Also I am now 72 years old. I do OMAD and LCHF keeping my carbs around 20 daily. I now weigh 197 lbs. I don’t have constant hunger or cravings. I am able and do walk 3 miles a day.

At 66 I found the weight loss to be easy. Prior to discovering Intermittent Fasting and Low Carb I was eating way too much sugar and simple (starchy) Carbs, plus my insulin levels were very high all the time. I was always tired, my joints hurt, and I felt like my brain was in a fog all the time. Once I discovered Intermittent Fasting and Low Carb, I was so desperate I was willing to try anything. Within 4 days I felt an improvement and by 2 weeks there was no doubt in my mind that I was on the right path. The pain I felt from excessive sugar and carbohydrates (high insulin) was enough to make me hate even thinking about having them. Now 6 months later I'm almost 60 pounds lighter and within 18 pounds of my ideal weight. I've been doing Intermittent Fasting and Low Carb for so many months it just seems so natural. I'm not sure what I'll do once I reach my ideal weight, but I keep pushing as I move towards my dream.

I lost 50 lbs in the first 5 months and additional 30 over the next 3-4 months.
I did LCHF and intermittent fasting and still do.
My only regret is that I didn’t know to try this 15-20 years ago.

I have undone 25 years of poor diet choices in 6 months with Keto and IF! All thanks to the principles taught by Becky and Keith. Better yet, I have learned how to manage my diet for a healthier last 3rd of my life! I too wish I would have known about this 20 years ago! Even better, several friends and family have reversed their issues based on my experience. How is this process still considered "underground" or at best, "alternative"?

At the age of 65 I started watching Dr Becky and stopped eating refined sugar (and artificial sweeteners). After about 3 or 4 days I quit looking for all the sweets I was used to eating like cakes, pies, and cookies. I’ve always liked salads and vegetables and not been much of a pasta and bread fan but haven’t cut out carbs like fruits and beans. In 3 months I’ve lost 20 pounds without much effort (my Dr suggested 50 and I’ll get there). I can see me eating this way forever and being happy with it.

Age 73. Started a vodka diet 15 months ago and began reduced carbs - ~20-30g/day, skip breakfast. Went from bmi 27.9 to 24 (lost 23#); A1C now in normal range, all blood readings have improved. I severely limit my vodka intake to 10 drinks or less daily and never before 9am. No sugary mixes - just Zevia. Life is good. And by the way, Dr. Becky, you rock. You were instrumental in my change to low carb and you probably gave me an extra few years of life. Thank you.

I watch your videos occasionally and have learnt alot along with my own research. Just recently I came across a video of losing weight over 60+ . I'm 65 years old. With the guidance of your wisdom through your videos for weight loss and diet changes, I have reached my goal. Last July/2019 I was 205lbs, I craved sugar treats enjoyed rice and pasta and bakery breads all my life. Finally I was not happy with the fat I was carrying, especially around my waist line and feeling sluggish. With the combination of the 16/8 fasting and eating between 12 to 8, low carb, and low sugar and healthy fats and diet changes and walking about 7 miles aday with ease I have reached and maintained my goal of 165 lbs and back to a 32 " waist within a year. I dont feel hungry when I'm fasting. I feel great, no sugar or carb cravings, Doctor was amazed with my cholesterol and triglyceride and A1C levels. He knows now what changed :). So people 60+ get on board and stick with it!! Thank You Dr. Becky. 😘

As of Sept 1, 2021 I've lost 6" off my waist, my weight is now 188, I can walk up 5 flights of stairs without being out of breath, blood sugar normal, I no longer have sugar cravings and I have no stomach problems. One of the biggest challenges for me has been that my spouse can live on bread, candy, ice cream, pretzels, rice, noodles, potatoes, etc. and he's the same pants size he was 42 years ago when we married. His idea of exercise is walking to the mailbox & back. Not so for me. Finally, I set aside a separate pantry for my "keto safe" foods so I'm not tempted to backslide (as much!) and at mealtimes I've gone to a modified "buffet" set up. The things we can both eat are on the kitchen counter, my keto foods are on the breakfast bar, and we both just help ourselves from the appropriate area. Sounds complicated, but it's working for us.

TOFI (Thin on the outside, fat on the inside). My sister is the same, she can eat anything and never gets any bigger - however, these people as not as lucky as one first assumes. The damage is still there, it is gradually building up around their internal organs. Whilst they think they may be genetically just lucky, they are massively disadvantaged, because they cannot see the damage. As my sister has recently discovered with her latest bloods test and other things starting to go wrong. I used to be the fat one, she was always giving me dietary advice - So now we are both converts - and both doing far better than we have for years! Eating too many carbs just has the effect of making one want to eat more carbs (who could ever eat just one Oreo?). Replace the sugar and carbs with more fat in your diet and within a few days the cravings will start to vanish and you will not feel Hungary all of the time. It works.

Lean is good. Plus it means I can go have a lovely meal and wine once in a while. No snacks, candy or biscuits or cakes at all. Means my BMI is mid point too. Good luck everyone.

Years ago, I did the Adkins Protein Diet with carbs under 25. I lost from 181 to 134, before the wheels came off. I was an early 40's 5'8" male. At that time, the trouble became that I got addicted to Adkins and losing weight. I literally couldn't stop. In high school, I wrestled at 136 and remember struggling mightily to make that weight. I was a normally fit athlete at 142 pounds. Then, in my 40's, I loved it when women told me, "You have the body of a teenager..."
Now Keto is easy for me at 68, but I hope the old addiction doesn't come back. I weigh 149 at the moment...

I've only just found Dr Becky on UA-cam and she is the perfect mentor for healthy eating. Your calm and common sense approach to weight loss and healthy eating instils confidence in me. I have always been in a healthy weight range, I am 60 years old, 160cm tall and currently weigh 60Kg. (Too many sixes in there!) My problem is that I can no longer fit into most of my jeans and pants which is demoralizing. Most of my weight gain has been over the past two years. So, I am going to try reducing carbs and see what happens. I have never been addicted to sugar but have enjoyed the occasional sweet biscuit or piece of cake. I also enjoy a glass of wine with cheese and crackers a few times per week, I think that might have to change. I love watching your videos, I always gets something new out of them. Thanks Becky.

I was a full blown carb addict. I was also vegan and became morbidly obese and pre diabetic. 5 years ago my dr told me about keto. I had to do a lot of research about eating higher fat before starting, being an RN with nearly 40 yrs of experience teaching patients about a low fat diet. After doing my research I decided to try it. I was 59 at the time. I had also struggled with my weight most of my adult life. I had been on nearly every diet imaginable and could never lose. Fast forward 5 years … I have lost 85 lbs. I have maintained this loss and am very healthy. I feel better then I did decades ago. I have totally lost my desire for sugar and my sugar tolerance is very low. I rarely get hungry and do TRE most every day. This way of eating does, indeed, work.

Dr. Becky. I Started using your advice and I have been successful for 2 weeks. This is the first time in many years that i lasted longer than a few days on a diet or even IF by itself. Now, I am doing low carb with intermittent fasting as you suggested. I am 82 and going a little more gradually than someone younger might. I am at 13 hours IF along with about 80 carbs a day. Chocolate candy was my downfall along with cookies and other sweets. I have not had any candy for the two weeks, therefore, no sugar. I am using your saying: DON'T STOP BEFORE THE MAGIC HAPPENS. I don't always feel real well but I know it will take time to adjust to low carb eating. I am enjoying the salads. I am eating 2 smaller ones rather than the large 4 cups. I am watching the salad dressings I use. I found a wonderful Caesar dressing with avocado oil by Paul Newman. Eating low carb I am having a lot more vegetables than I ever had before. I have at least 50 lbs to lose but I am hoping to feel better by summer having lose some of it. Dr. Becky, I have your first book and it has a wealth of information in it. Thanks for everything.

I am 64 years old. The first 35 years of my life I was thin and active. I could not add any bulk despite lots of effort. Over the last 25 years ago I have gained about 140 pounds. (Be careful what you wish for.) This happened gradually through eating too much too often, a sedentary life style and drinking lots of local craft beer. Looking at my daughter's wedding pictures I realized I resembled a beach ball with a shirt on! That day I resolved to quit drinking beer for a while. Someone I know had lost a great deal of weight using the keto diet. That night, out of curiosity, I googled Keto Diet. I spent the rest of the night watching UA-cam videos and decided I could do it. I observed a very strict keto diet and after 6 or 7 weeks I began to play with intermittent fasting. The fasting became easy and part of my weekly routine. By December I had lost 100 pounds and felt amazing. It was so much easier than it sounds! My doctor was familiar with keto and impressed by the incredible change in my blood work. (A1C from 6.7 in 2016 to 5.1 in October 2019) I have relaxed a little since December but have maintained the weight loss. I still observe a 16-8 eating strategy and do 24 - 36 hour fasts regularly. I avoid all carbs except vegetables. Every time I long for a beer, a pizza or popcorn, I just bend over and tie my shoes or pet my dog. One cool collateral effect has been the number of people in my life that have taken up this life style and achieved similar results.

I wanted the most nutritious food, in the smallest size and lightest weight. So, eating can be trained! The the mind is were it started for me. Train the mind and the body will follow.

Now, to maintain this weight, I eat fruits and vegetables mainly, followed by dairy, nuts, and meat. One day's menu is typically a piece of fruit and a glass of milk for lunch, salad for dinner, and yogurt for dessert. I've just turned 57 years old was in a car accident in 1987. I walk with a cane on my good days and when you can't exercise because of serious injuries you gain weight. I'm diabetic and with keto I've been able to go off of all diabetes medication and have lost 111 lbs. I'm still losing and getting better. So, even if you can't exercise you can eat right and intermittent fast and lose weight and more importantly get a lot of your health back. Keto for life and don't let big pharma or anybody else try to talk you out of regaining your health. The choice is yours and the small amount of work is yours. If I have a sandwich out I eat all but the bread. Bread was my nemesis now I hardly give it a second look. Besides, nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

I was a carb addict for sure, and actually mourned having to give up sugar and many carbs when diagnosed with T2. But yes, I did it, and I no longer am tempted by sugar. It's good to know others this age group are having the same problem with losing weight. I have just decided I need to stay within my carb and calorie counts and not get on the scale. Weighing can be the fastest way for me to get discouraged and give it all up. I just figure I do this way of eating, it's my life, it's for my blood sugar, if I lose weight in the process, great. I'm not going to stress over my weight, and at least I'm not gaining. And... I am actually enjoying good foods that I eat low carb/keto, so it's okay.

Retired last year due to a disability which greatly affects my ability to walk. I was afraid that I would not be able to lose weight with so little activity. But I started cutting my carbs way down and eating only twice a day. To my surprise I am losing weight. Down 20 pounds in about 5 weeks. I am determined to keep this new habit going and hopefully lose 20-30 more pounds.

I had given up all wheat products except bread. I thought I would be able to control my consumption of bread to one slice a day. I was wrong. But once I made the commitment to give up bread, the rest fell into place, hunger and cravings were gone. I haven't lost weight yet, but my joint pain is dramatically lessened. And the severe edema in my feet and ankles is improving. I've only been fully committed to Keto for a week.

I've never been asked to stop eating before midnight for any surgery, or other medical procedure that requires a fasting state. Since I find it easy to get to sleep before 12 - it's never been an issue. So - my attempt at 16:8 with food from 1pm - 9pm is, so far, the best i/'ve been able to do and not wake in the night.

Hi, I'm 58 and have started this journey a few weeks ago. I do not miss sugar, fruit and a whole slew of other foods that were just making loosing weight impossible. I have a thyroid problem and I hope this diet will help this situation of mine. I did start this diet to get rid of the weight so my back will feel better and be stronger. I had back surgery 15 years ago and a lot of muscles don't work anymore. They just cramp up and cause a lot of pain. So far, I have lost eight pounds in four weeks and I don't take any meds except my thyroid meds. I feel younger and stronger. (Maybe the gray hair will go too! HA!!!)

Sara Truman. I too have a thyroid problem & had back surgery just over 20 years ago. Just wondering if there were any improvements in your thyroid? I've been doing the diet for 11 weeks, quite strict @ 20g carbs or under. But still an insomniac with thyroid issues. Not giving up, but get disheartened when I read comments about how rejuvenated folk feel. Pleased for them of course, but wee bit disappointed for myself. Had to mute the talking scales or I'd be in therapy & scales in recycling bin. Wish you well. Take care & stay safe.

I also have thyroid problems. I lost 35 pounds in 2016 on keto/IF while living in a different state. The insomnia was in full force then but the keto made it somewhat better. I've been eating quasi-keto for around 6 months and committed keto for 3 weeks now. The morning wakefulness is worse than ever. Weight loss has been so slow, pain relief and energy improvement that I got in 2016 have not yet returned. ☹️. I've begun thinking it's the water. (I do drink tap water. Old city=soft water, current town=hard water.) Ugh! Keep hoping my body will straighten itself out! Good luck to you.
