      Yes, Debbie, that's a great way to get magazines! Flip through all of them -- you never know which one will have letters or images that you can use; sometimes it's a magazine you wouldn't expect to be useful that has the best things for collage!

    • @bonnieb4994

      I used a hinge binding technique -- it's simple! Just cut tall, skinny strips of cardstock the same height as your book pages. Fold them in half and glue them together like an accordion, then glue each page to a hinge strip.I'll try to cover that in a future video, but hope this helps.

  • @lynnelively6018
    @lynnelively6018 5 років тому

    What fun! Thank you. I thought you said you had the kids make this from file folders but I noticed in the comments you talked about the hinge method. I saw your tips about the hinge method and if you have any file folder tips I’d love to have them. I’m a bit obsessed with using file folders but mainly use them for covers.

    • @bonnieb4994
      @bonnieb4994  5 років тому

      Thank you, Lynne. We cut the file folders into hinges. They're heavier stock than I normally use for hinges, but they worked. The goal in this class was to use easily obtainable materials, and while not everyone would have cardstock, most everyone has access to a couple of file folders.

    Question for you: What stamp catalog do you use/get? I'd love to get one. My mom used to collect stamps when I was a kid. I'm thinking about doing it for myself. Thanks.

    • @bonnieb4994
      @bonnieb4994  6 років тому +1

      Kate, the stamp pages I use in collage books are from an informational catalog from a company named Scott... I often find old, outdated volumes at library sales and such. If you want to start collecting stamps, you'll probably want a stamp collecting album instead, and I think the US Post Office actually offers one! The Scott books don't have places to put your stamps, just info about various stamps from all countries. Have fun!

    • @bonnieb4994

      Cheryl, I used skinny tabs to bind this. I folded cardstock (cut to about 1-1/2 inches wide) in half, and glued each page in the spread to one half of the folded cardstock. Then I glued the next spread to another piece of folded cardstock, and so on. Some people do this with a larger piece of cardstock and fold it like an accordion, but I can't seem to get the folds even on a large sheet, so I cut mine into small widths. Hope this helps!
