Remember hearing King saying in interview that she couldn't think too much about this song moved so many-she would be too overwhelmed to perform it. As Dusty Spingfield said, "So you're the little lady who writes all the music (and words in this case)." Many thanks to Carole for giving us music to last a lifetime.
This song is Deticated to my sister Josie cause she loves this song and Carol King... My sister past away last month on 6-27-13 from cancer. Love u so much sis, my heart aches still, miss u .......
I sang this song for my Dad , at his funeral . It would have been sweeter - for him - 2 months before - to do it Then . He taught me how to be a man . A good man .
I knew a fellow musician while playing piano at a Shakeys in California City. His name was Rich and he played the blues on a harmonica. He said his friend was Carole King whom he played music with at her home in Southern California. He said she had many pet cats at her home. What a small world to meet him. I always remembered this story. He informed me I would always recall his name, Rich, since he was really poor. He attended our jam sessions and sacked out on our bean bag chair. Carole King is one of my favorites!
Carole King, You've got a friend****My all time favorite artist.... This is such a true song...My FAVORITE song....& I love it when James Taylor sings it to ...They duet well together as 2 good old friends that they are ...they remain as friends. to this day.. Ty for sharing! *** Friends , true friends are so hard to come by..... Got loads of goose bumps just listening to this song .....my eyes got so weld up ...made me weap....
Very talented lady, an amazing voice and also a great songwriter. I know everyone's entitled to their own opinion but find it strange that over 500 people have hit the dislike button.
iam a huge Dylan and Cohen fan Carole King is certainly up there with them a lovely singer songwriter, it was a great day when she decided to sing as well as write songs, truely a legend.
We were all so young when this song was created and sung. I could have been at this concert but just missed it. The Arrow Of Time moves forward without regard to us or our wishes. Thirty years later, with two grown and married children, I look back and find everything that you are expressing in this song one of, "My favorite things". I guess that we fill up the vast emptiness of our Cosmos with songs like this as well as our hopes for the future. People are crying in this video. I believe that they are crying out of joy and relief as they face the vast and mpersonal Cosmos.
My mom sang me this when I was an infant, I sang/sing this to my two boys.. They used to calm don in my stomach when I sang it and it still has that affect to this day:-)
VERY PROUD TO BELONG TO YOUR GENERATION...Carole, very grateful to permit me express my feeling in hard moments, when this song fits perfectly...THANKS A LOT!!!
I fell in love with Carole King when I was a teenager. Even after all these years I am still in love with her and her music. She never lost her touch or her edge, she still sounds like an angel, in fact I think she sounds better then ever. Kicking some major ass would be a better description. Let us give credit where credit is due! . .
You just call out my name and you know that wherever I am I will come running. How many of us turn to music when dark clouds come overhead and you know what, it saves us every time. That is why people who make music out of nothing are so special to us. Just love it when the audience sing this.
Every time I see this beautiful video, I cannot make my eyes wet like the then audience. Carole King is such a great singer to unify the air with her audience.
What a voice!!! And those lyrics... Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend When people can be so cold They'll hurt you, and desert you And take your soul if you let them, oh yeah, don't you let 'em now
This makes me think of my friend; her name is Carol, too. We've been through a lot, separately & as friends. Keep your friends close, but if they live far away, keep them in your thoughts & heart. They're so important.
She's never looked lovlier, nor sounded more profound (even though her voice is cracking a bit here), but she has mastered this tune of hers, and this is a special performance, even if her voice is not perfect. She still delivers what is necessary-the punch to make you sit up and take notice of the lyrics and her great delivery. Thank you Carole, and to other real musicians that keep performing even if they are hurting from it. Carole is special, and no one can take that away from her, at any time. And we thank her for that, and her musical efforts that she has put out there for us over the years, and her lovely singing and lyrics that have no equal. Bless you Carole, you have given me so much in your music that you will never know how special that has been to me, and no doubt countless others as well. Thank you from our hearts, Carole. You are so special, and we realize it all now. Thank you for the fortune you have given us!
Very nice tribute from you and I who have only known her for 6 years (because from France), I can say that your reaction is very accurate, this lady should have been known to us in the same way as Joan Baez, Elvis Presley or Otis Reddind and others. The other day, however, a program was devoted to him on France Culture. I love his performances always smiling, magnificent! Good for you. "Online translation".
A masterpiece by Carole King ! It brought tears to my eyes ... Friends are very important to me ! I love them and willing to do anything for them ." You've Got a Friend ". That's me 100% !!
When you're down and troubled and you need some love and care, And nothing, nothing is going right, Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there To brighten up even your darkest night. You just call out my name, and you know wherever I am, I'll come running to see you again. Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call And I'll be there You've got a friend. If the sky above you grows dark and full of clouds, And that old north wind begins to blow, Keep your head toget-her and call my name out loud. Soon you'll hear me knockin' at your door. You just call out my name, and you know wherever I am, I'll come running to see you again. Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call And I'll be there, yes, I will. Now ain't it good to know that you've got a Friend when people can be so cold. They'll hurt you, yes, anddesert you And, take your soul if you let them. Oh, but don't you let them. You just call out my name, and you know wherever I am, I'll come running to see you again. Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call And I'll be there, yes, I will. You've got a friend. You've got a friend. Ain't it good to know you've got a friend…
I enjoy listening this best song from Carole King. This song should be shared among all people in the world. Especially singing it to all "Friends" with Dementia.
this song, at very first time, it just went straight through my heart, i had a friend for six years and one day she disappeared, i feel if somewhere she is listening this song, i am still here for her, as i said forever. && I am always missing here. don't know where she would be...
Carole, I find myself writing about "You've Got A Friend", finding increasingly deeper meanings and associations, some quite beautiful and others quite painful many both beautiful and painful with each time that I listen and each passing day. It is as if this song is a Universal Prayer for Humankind to find an elusive commonality that we must find or we will perish. Humanity must come to see that we have to not only all be friends but that we are in the same great Ark and if we get along the Ark will ride out the 'Forty Days of Flood and Rain; if we can not find friendship among one another we will all perish. This song is, in a profound way our greatest hope and our deepest threat: Humankind must get its act together!
I have liked her from when I was little as my dad would play her a lot we just went together and saw the show in Edinburgh and it was amazing I would go and see it again if I could
Someday you will meet a person who will go out of his way to make you feel loved, and you can count on that person and never leave you alone in the dark. And instead he will be the light that will warm you throughout the cold and lonely night, hug you, feel you and will say " come here, you are safe with me " To you my friend, you are the risk I'll always take. I love you 😘❤️😘♥️
i remember when i was a kid, this was the version i first heard. it brings me so many memories, cause after i found this i became a huge fan of carole! i love her to death! gosh she makes me so happy and sad at the same time

She doesn't have the most immaculate voice, but she sings with such depth and intensity. Love Ms. King!

When you're down and troubled and you need some love and care,
And nothing, nothing is going right,
Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night.
You just call out my name, and you know wherever I am,
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call
And I'll be there

And that old north wind begins to blow,
Keep your head toget-her and call my name out loud.
Soon you'll hear me knockin' at your door.
You just call out my name, and you know wherever I am,
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call
And I'll be there, yes, I will.
Now ain't it good to know that you've got a
Friend when people can be so cold. They'll hurt you, yes, anddesert you
And, take your soul if you let them.
Oh, but don't you let them.
You just call out my name, and you know wherever I am,
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call
And I'll be there, yes, I will.
