ugh taking out those hunks by hand has to be one of the most satisfying things in the whole world. i used to do this every chance i got for the dogs at a rescue where i worked and once even for a pet steer and some goats!! people think i'm crazy when i use my downtime to go brush out the animals
I for sure love doing that too! Especially at the clinic! This guys just sheds all at once so he seemingly looks like he's not well cared for in the vid but some of these clinic horses haven't seen a brush in a year. It's one of my favorite things to return a pretty horse back to their owners :)
Bro why are so many people saying the horse is neglected? I’ve spent a lot of time around horses when I was a kid and it looks like a normal healthy horse to me. Just old. …You do realize that animals (and people for that matter) tend to thin out when they get old… right? My dog is skinny and has kind of ratty fur, but we give her unlimited access to food and so many treats every day and brush her. She’s just really old. That’s what old animals look like. The horse doesn’t even look dangerously skinny and the only fur that was matted was either shed or on the underside, which is really easy for an animal to get tangled due to leg movement. Edit: I’m also pretty sure you don’t really bathe horses very often for those of you complaining about the dust on it. Horses are outdoor animals. I’m sure they are supposed to get bathed on occasion, but seeing dust in it does not scream neglect. This is coming from someone who does not own a horse, but used to be OBSESSED, and knows people who do own horses and has ridden horses many times, and they always have dust on them. Sometimes a lot. I once watched a little white pony roll around in the mud while it was raining and turn its coat completely brown. They’re not clean animals
We used to do this to my dog (with the curry comb) and we would call it "Chunking" because it was like chunks of fluffy under coat was coming off him. I always thought the birds would be happy with the new found insulation for their nests.
I used to LOVE sitting on the front stoop with my Chessie mix and do his big shed comb when the weather got warm, before he got started on his flea and tick treatment for the summer. He had big fluffy buns thanks to the little bit of shepherd in him. I’d just pull tufts of fur from his butt/legs and let them fly. He LOVED being de-shedded! This reminds me of him because he was the exact same color as this horse!
Just a question, does this old man have PPID/Cushing's?? Curious because if so, it would explain the length of hair/shedding pattern and tufting to anyone who might think hes neglected. My boy had Cushing's and shed out like this. Once he was shed out, he was sleek, but still had slightly longer hair than the average horse.
It also helps to do brushing more often NOT waiting until it mats up like that. Also start up high like the neck & go down & back toward rear. That horse is having his 1st brushing & its WAY OVERDUE! Deworm him too which helps it come off better.
We in Australia find it easier and time saving to clip our horses when they start showing signs of shedding, but will throw on warm rug on till their coat grows back In 4wks, they will feel amazing in the summer ! It's just an easier option.
Old school upholstered and furniture makers still use horsehair batting in seat cushions... I don't know the exact methodology for collecting & washing & preparing it for sale, but is their a market for that near where you live? I bet there are many folks who'd love to know the name of the horse that contributed to their comfy seat 🤓
This vid could have gone on a lot longer as far as I'm concerned... eminently soothing and if it was soothing for me, just think what it was for the old fellow.
Don't worry, this all a normal thing that he does. As a veterinary technician, I have access to a clinic to which he has visited multiple times a year with no problems :)
It could def look like Cushings but since this is a phenomenon that happens regularly (he sheds it all out within a week & a half) and has been checked out with full health, it is just a funky way to shed for him :)
dang it i am so gonna get one of these brushes !!!! our german shepherd constantly sheds his fur as he has a double coat and every summer and winter our home becomes a nightmare. we vacume sometimes 3 times a day and have killed motors on so many vacumes. even a furminator got killed
Genuine question here! Did you stop brushing at his armpit area because it wouldn't work to pull out that bigger matted stuff? Or was it just a preference? Also, is that worn away hair on the top from sun? Or saddle? Or old age?
I just chose to pull it apart cuz it's a sensitive area and I didn't want there to be so much tension. And i'm not exactly sure what you meant about the hair BUT he's a really dusty horse if that's what you were talking about
He has been dewormed and brushed, just not every single day (as another had previously argued as also being classified as neglect), but rest assured this horse is cared for regularly. Again, this is his normal shedding pattern and I wanted to share it with yall cuz it's both weird yet relaxing visual stimuli.
@paulettepena6711 the hair they pulled was already shed out, it was just hanging on with the other hair, dirt and dried sweat. They didn't actually rip the hair out from the horse's body.
It's not a brush. It's a device for getting closer down in the coat in order to remove all this loose hair. Needs to then be brushed well and the horse needs a bath. It obviously has been neglected.
Can you imagine how much he must have itched? Brushing must’ve have been a gigantic relief ! ❤
Please make these every shedding season, and make it as long as you can! This is so wonderfully satisfying!

The birds are gonna loooove it, too!
Can you imagine the relief of that horse?
Love to see the wind snatching the hair away, very satisfying.

The birds must love finding that hair for the nest
oh yeah we see their nests around the tack room and you can definitely tell whose keeping them warm up there
I love it when you pull the fur out by hand! Fur ball. Bath time.
I LOVE pulling out chunks. I feel like I get a lot more done than brushing lil wisps all the time
Wow! I think that's the first truly matted horse I've ever seen! Very satisfying to pluck the tufts!
We used to do this to my dog (with the curry comb) and we would call it "Chunking" because it was like chunks of fluffy under coat was coming off him. I always thought the birds would be happy with the new found insulation for their nests.
Thats always the fun part! We actually have birds who nest here and we KNOW they're using Peanut cuz he was the only brown horse for years! :)

I’m from the Netherlands and we brush our horses every day that the routine we have as horse owners!
Bet that feels so good to get that scratched off!🤗🤠
I bet the horse feels so much better after that. So much hair shedded
Thanks for this, very relaxing to watch. I’m sure the pony feels so much better.
The birds and critters are going to have plenty of nesting materials!
so do we get to see peanut get brushed out again this year, bc... i'm super here for it. that looks like it feels great lol
It also helps to do brushing more often NOT waiting until it mats up like that. Also start up high like the neck & go down & back toward rear. That horse is having his 1st brushing & its WAY OVERDUE! Deworm him too which helps it come off better.
He likely has cushings
Uhh, I could watch this for hours lol
God bless you pony looks to be happy by your kind treatment.

That's incredible. I had no idea they got so furry.
Oh yeah certain breeds, ages, and sometimes a sickness determines how fluffy they get
this was way overdue. Although this is satisfying, y’all should probably spend some more time brushing that horse.

I am unfortunately allergic to horses, was sniffling and sneezing watching this but was very satisfying to watch, beautiful horse
lol
I was there but I still sneezed while editing :)
Birds love the hair that blows away...they use it for building nests.
Gosh! What a fuzzball😂💗💗💗💗💗😘😘
Beautiful horse❤️
Love the brushing not the picking. Please keep going
Please do again indoors because the wind sounds ruin it 😢
Part 2? I want to see the rest of the deshedding, bath, de shed again, put on weight, etc. trim hooves
Good job!
So underrated♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️👑👑
This vid could have gone on a lot longer as far as I'm concerned... eminently soothing and if it was soothing for me, just think what it was for the old fellow.
hi from australia thank you
If this is an older horse please check, it may have Cushing's disease.
I was going to ask the same thing. This is 3 years of hair or something similar to Cushings.
Looks like could be a tiny bit of rain rot to with all that hair
Don't worry, this all a normal thing that he does. As a veterinary technician, I have access to a clinic to which he has visited multiple times a year with no problems :)

It LOOKS but it's really just a bunch of dirt he's accumulated :)
Such an improvement
I never realized that horses got that furry.
They honestly don't look like it in their winter coats but when they let go you see that LENGTH hiding underneath
dang it i am so gonna get one of these brushes !!!! our german shepherd constantly sheds his fur as he has a double coat and every summer and winter our home becomes a nightmare. we vacume sometimes 3 times a day and have killed motors on so many vacumes. even a furminator got killed
They aren't brushes to use on a coat they are brush cleaners
The spiral curry combs are the least effective brush to use, IMO
Oh my gosh you absolute fluff ball!! Lol.

Awww beautiful 🤩
When you first zoom into the chest it looks like a giant fuzzy turkey 🤣
Your horse thanks you !
These sorts of videos are getting popular on Reddit.
Please get a sleek ez and do a video. It would be amazing!!!!!
I wish but those cost money, which is something I don't have :)
very relaxing :) how old is this guy? he has an adorable face!!
I think he's going on 25 right now
Your brush is very ineffective!
That’s why your fingers worked better.
This was a satisfying video, nonetheless!
It's for the DRAMA, the BUILD UP
How do wild horses do it?
Looks like this horse has been somewhat neglected. Even during over wintering he should have ben brushed to remove dirt, parasites and matting.
He has been dewormed and brushed, just not every single day (as another had previously argued as also being classified as neglect), but rest assured this horse is cared for regularly. Again, this is his normal shedding pattern and I wanted to share it with yall cuz it's both weird yet relaxing visual stimuli.
That's not how this works people should do research before coming this thing lol
What about the matted fur?@@BootypoppinPonies
That's not how you groom a horse. Pulling the hair? 😮
@paulettepena6711 the hair they pulled was already shed out, it was just hanging on with the other hair, dirt and dried sweat. They didn't actually rip the hair out from the horse's body.
Нужны две такие чесалки, в обе руки. И тогда всё пойдёт в два раза быстрее!
The butt fluff is the worst of part when grooming any animal most of the time
for horses it mainly seems to be on their lower back area from what ive experienced, but yea a lot of it forms on their hind end too!!
He looks so dejected! Is he a rescue? Sweet baby ❤
you should read the description :)
@@iimdone I really should have 🙂👍
The Lord God gave them thicker coats in old age
Who else was getting irritated and wanted to snatch the deshedder out of their hand because they were going way too slow?😂
I gotta keep the ASMR Integrity😂
You know you can sell horse hair to fly tying companies and make money off of this easily if you save the fur, right
Terrible brush device
Gotta use your words
"This is a terrible brush device because..."
It's not a brush. It's a device for getting closer down in the coat in order to remove all this loose hair. Needs to then be brushed well and the horse needs a bath. It obviously has been neglected.
Ugh. Like shearing sheep.....
Very poor care. Not enough food. Sad..
It’s an old horse bud. Clearly you don’t know much about horses
Horse needs better care. Dull hair, matted and too much thickness. It does looked neglected. 😢
I take it you’ve never seen an older horse with a winter coat? Lol The horse is not neglected
