Your Spyder sounds GREAT. However your garage makes me VERY nervous. A lot can go wrong in there! We had a 50th Anniversary 911 Targa suffer some significant damage in our neighborhood as a result of "falling debris" (a ladder in this case) in a garage. Please be careful!
Likely not (I'm an amateur). Love it though - sounds best in person. The loud mode is awesome but drones in the 2k range. Quiet mode sounds better than stock and doesn't annoy the neighbors.
@@pmcd1966a thanks for the feedback. Trying to figure which set up works best. Usually its better to hear in person. Thinking OAP only with stock PSE and defeat valves into open all the time.
@@Hind135 I should have recorded stock to compare. This setup, with valves closed, is definitely louder than stock, but not much. IMO the sound is better. You also get some burbles on overrun, which I didn't get with the stock setup (although my previous 981 had them).
@@kiyalami8478 Look into the Kline. Stainless is about $4500-5000(for both OAP and back box) and sounds amazing. The beauty is zero drone. I leave the valves open all the time. Perfectly civilized when being gentle and a nice howl under load. I think these OAPs are definitely the best value but like the OP said, there is drone to deal with.
How do you find the Porsche compared to the MX5? Of course the Porsche is ultimately a different class, but how do you feel in terms of driving fun? This is exactly the same car I want to move on to after my Mazda!
Great question. Comparing both stock, they are both fun but in different ways. I love the MX5's short gearbox, but didn't care for the suspension. That was fixed with coil overs (a must do, IMO). The sound of the stock MX5 was terribly quiet, but a rear exhaust fixed that (also must do). The Porsche (with a manual) is the MX5 times 2 or 3. But still, you can't beat the MX5 in the fun for the money category. Also, every other car manufacturer should study how Mazda did the convertible top - it's amazing.
As good as it is, IMO, I don’t think the Spyder can ever replace a Miata. Anyone who’s owned a Miata will ultimately want or have both vehicles in their garage. I love the look of the Spyder BUT there’s two things it will never have over the Miata….size and engine bay access. I feel the Miata is the perfect runabout size and has one of the best looking engine bays. At first, I thought it was a waste to toss in thousands of dollars into a Miata to get it where I wanted it versus simply buying something equivalent like a Boxster. But in doing so, I lose the size and joy of personalizing the car AND being able to see what I’ve built. If Mazda would only offer the “Spyder” top they had showcased years ago, I honestly wouldn’t even consider the 718 Spyder…cause that’s pretty much the only reason to consider this vehicle (over it’s competitors).
I prefer OEM Porsche as this drones at high way speed what is only 75 mph at best. If this exhaust is better don’t you think Porsche would installed similar?
You should buy/use what you like, of course. From what I understand, Porsche has to meet noise requirements in a drive-by test. So they close the valves and make it quiet once you drive off. I found this very irritating (esp. coming from a 981 GTS), which has an amazing OEM exhaust.
Yes there is some drone in the 2k range in loud mode. Less drone in quiet mode but it’s still present. I would probably be bothered by it if I used that engine speed much, but I don’t.

How about the volume loudness when valves are closed compared to stock? Is it louder or roughly the same? Thnx for video
