Ironically enough, if you want all the features, at least at this point, the update pass is the cheapest option because you blow right past the perpetual versions. If i'm not mistaken, it's a one off payment for a perpetual licence upgrade from v1 to v2, but after that upgrade, you get 2.1 2.2 2.3 etc up until 3.0, which then requires another payment to upgrade from 2.0 to 3.0. Or if you would like to upgrade from v1 (perpetual) to v2 (subscription), then you can buy the update pass which you pay annually for all future upgrades.
You will not get any feature update between v2.0 to v3.0. You'll get stability update from v2.0 to v3.0. You'll have all the mentioned features now in v2.0 but the new ones that are being developed and will be implemented afterwards will not be available for you for free. you'll need update pass for it. Those upcoming features will be the default features when the v3.0 comes out after a year or two. Feature update changes the digit after v2.(0).0, stability update changes the last digit v2.0.(0). Clip Studio License option is affordable and reasonably priced so I don't think it's a bad implementation. Most of long time CSP users are just so used to get free updates during v1.
@@TruthSeekingDude I thought that might've been the case as I read more into the fine print. Still, $30 for all future features per year with the update pass is actually quite good. For such a feature rich professional level software, it's almost a steal when you compare it to something like Photoshop which slogs you about $20 for one month.
@@Lygon_ Totally agree with you. CSP is waaaaaaaaaaay WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY BETTER option for illustrators and comic artists compared to Photoshop. Specially with the new text feature update which other artists complaining about in v1. With v2, you have every tools you need to work professionally for a fraction of a price compared to adobe. $30 annual sub, you can get that within a day of work. Even for a broke artist can afford it in few days or a week, then use the program for a year and earn more money.
I wish someone could make a cheap app that can do these things with the 3D models, such as mapping the hands and making the model look the same as your hand, like how ToonSquid was made to be a cheap app for 2D rig animators.
I went ahead and upgraded my copy to version 2 today but I'm going to wait a little bit to see what other features they're planning for it in the future before I go all in on a subscription
What is sweet about this upgrade: Most everything (that shading assistant and hand camera thing look simply awesome) What isn't: For us longtime CSP owners, not be eligible for any further 2.x upgrades sans subscription. They botched it badly in here and I still resent it. This said the 1.x EX upgrade is like 40 bucks at current sale price... oh well.
I like that they've added perceptual color blending and the fish eye ruler, but I really wished they would fix the performance of their story mode. Once you get above 30-40 pages, doing any changes to the page order or adding/deleting pages takes ages. In the early stages of the comics process I like to work with rough quick sketches, and often add or remove pages, and when it takes 30 or more seconds just to delete a single page it becomes super annoying to work with, and it just gets progressively worse the more pages you add.
I bought pro one time purchase for windows and have a yearly plan for android (tab s8 ultra). I am so glad for the align tool. I was wishing it had this for awhile now.😊 CSP is awesome!!
Honestly, the licensing doesn't worry me. If you're a professional artist the license/subscription is very reasonably priced and if you're a hobbyist artist, you very likely can live without the bleeding edge new features. The base version will be more than enough for most people, you probably don't need the upgrade plan. Plus, they have sales like 4 times a year, so you can get an annual subscription for like $17 or re-up your perpetual license with a bunch of new features for $30 every couple years.
I think they may have clarified that the perpetual license doesn't get "early" access to new features, but once they are fully developed and deployed, you will. At least that's how I read it, I upgraded right away, there's a discount currently if you already own v1. :)
As cool as these features are, I wish they had spent more time optimizing the software to run faster, especially with large/ and or textured brushes. I use procreate and can very quickly manually paint with large brushes with little to no lag at all, but if you do the same in CSP, the lag is painful, even on high end hardware. If the software was snappier, I might get back into using my drawing tablet, but for now it will sit on my shelf and will continue using my ipad. As much as I love paint tool sai for its speed, it just doesn't have enough features at the moment to consider using (though for a one man team, SAI is amazing)
The more you love something the more you want to give back. I would love to pay them 5 bucks a month for enable me to use a fantastic drawing software. That will keep getting even better. Also, because they even have the option for both subscription and one time pay I don't think we as a community can be thankful enough.
I agree. At first I wasn’t sure about the new pricing models and all that; but the more I’ve given it thought, I’ve realized it’s not bad at all! At least it’s affordable! It doesn’t require crazy computer specs, and I can access on whatever platform I choose (Windows and iPad, in my case). That’s a huge one for me, as it doesn’t break my workflow from device to device. And I think that alone makes it worth it 🙂
Yeah I think this is a solid upgrade. I’m excited for the shading and all the font/text features. There was another option I saw on the website but couldn’t find anything about it or price. It’s called Clip Studio Debut. I remember Manga Studio Debut. All it said that was the basic features of Clip Studio Paint. So I’m not sure if it’s a cheaper option or what but that’s what it sounded like.
Manga studio and CSP are the same. At one point there was a "debut" option for both. It was either really cheap or free. As far as I know, CSP no longer offers this option.
@@toonlyrics I been using the EX ever since Manga Studio 5 came out. I was just wondering if the Debut was a cheaper option, so I can recommend which the best one if someone asked.
Debut was a version that came with any tablets or other things that had csp as a bonus software- it's identical to the trial version of clip studio paint.
I dont use the 3d features of csp so this major update was a bit of a disappointment. However I did like the new color mixing features. I wish they would redesign the perspective tools, i find them so irritating to use. But otherwise, i love the software and the annual subscription price is a bargain.
Here is the issue with subscription for me. I have so many different services and I hate seeing bunch of transactions and notifications that happens every month because of them. I try to choose annual payment options if possible for this reason but even then I get about 10+ transaction notifications a month. I'd pay like $1000 (That's like 200months worth?) if there is a one time permanent option...
it does kind of irk me that there's no way to put a custom head on a body. Like it's not helpful to have a customizable head and a customizable body but no way to use both at the same time. The head doesn't snap onto the body, and moving it manually just makes it clip (no pun intended) through the default head. even a feature to hide the default head would be nice
They are making the same mistakes as Adobe does with Photoshop. Focusing on gimmicks instead of working on the core of the program. The only thing I really need from this "major" update is auto-saving in the background so I don't get interrupted while painting any more. The rest is too specialized considering the flaws that need to be eliminated on the base functionality. Big brushes still are sooooo slow - hardly usable. No polygon shapes. Rulers being all over the place in functionality. Selections being too restrictive. And so on ...
The mistakes are a feature, not a bug. Making the most money off there just effort is just how capitalism works in siftware, and you can see plainly it's not hurting Adobe in the slightest.
Not sure if it's worth it. Most of these features are actually stuff I never really thought about needing and they have yet to add some of the most used features from Photoshop and procreate. Idk still trying to decide if upgrading is even worth it
I've been using CSP for almost 6 years now. It has continually been the best PRODUCT EVER for artists for me. They had that small hiccup.(with the AI stuff) but honestly they bounced back with this HUGE update. The new 3D heads they enabled allowed me to crank out drawing like no tomorrow and the new shading feature can only get better with time. Now, if they update the heads to be able to recreate expressions that would be a GAME CHANGER. It will truly help me be able to focus on composition and eveyrthing else in regards to making my own story!!
i've been on the monthly 4 device for a year and will still keep it because it gives me all updates no matter the version at the standard cost I've been paying
I got the update pass, from 1 to 2 but, they don't let me use the program with 2 devices, my computer, and my laptop, so I think I will go back to 1 for the time being since I need to use both devices to work, this until I get money to buy the proper update instead; good thing the update pass is free for a month
shame you didn't talk about the difference between EX and Pro. I'll have to pay a lot more to upgrade EX for very little extra features, and the standard 2 licenses you used to get is now only one, so I have to pay twice fo my studio/home computer.
There's no new features. "Uhhhh changing canvas height but diff'ernt" is an excuse to say they didn't add nothing and doesn't deserve to be called a feature any more than Celsys deserves to be charging nearly 300% the price of PRO for it. More than likely Celsys didn't want Brad calling their grift.
i will probably not be using any of those features other than the blending, auto shading, and maybe the 3d feature and since i got a free upgrade i might as well just use it but i dont think its worth it for me to get the subscription to get more features, since even though i have been using clip almost every day i barely use most of its features (hell i have the full version aka EX and i barely animate on it (i did get it for comics tho which i havent been doing much lately)) so get it if you so want, i recommend upgrading if you get it for free, but if you use clip in the same way i do (even if you animate and make comics) the new features we currently have are not worth it 60 bucks to upgrade and even less 25 bucks a year for new features that will be available later on on 2.0 and fully available on 3.0 (which is promised to be released next year) unless you really want a certain feature, or you are certain you will fully use the subscription, i dont recommend getting it ever.
What's throwing me off is that fisheye lense perspective should be a variation on 5 point perspective. I'm curious how they are making it work with 3 point, as I'm not sure it would.
The animation tools are a trick to lure you into the absolute scam that is EX's pricing model. They haven't been changed at all. They also don't work well enough for animators to take it seriously. I have used them and it can't handle high FPS playback. It's choppy, which makes it totally worthless. Don't do it.
I'm so pissed that they still haven't added GPU acceleration for working in the canvas, any high res brush like a large airbrush performs like dog sh*t, it pisses me off even more that they did use GPU acceleration for this new hand recognition feature, but not for just painting normally on canvas?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Even Krita support GPU acceleration for the brushes, and that app is FREE FFS!!! I got a 4090, and it pisses me off so much that I can't use it basically at all when drawing.
Thank you for the showcase! I think I'll currently stick with CSP 1 because the upgrade package says on their website it doesn't include updates? And that's sadly just iffy since I'm an amateur.
I first started watching this forgetting that I had the video speed on slow from speed art. And when he started talking I was wondering why he is talking so slow. And remembered why. 😂 I just now discovered him.
kind of sad that theyre going the prescription model- its a very affordable price point but I really admired CSP for being "the last bastion" so to speak
the color blending and hand posing tools are the most compelling to me (and also its insane to me that WORD WRAP is being locked behind 2.0 like what the fuck).
Great video but you didn't show where the setting is too adjust the perceptual shading is. You did a weird zoom in thing. But everything else you showed where it is at. Please make another video about it or try to instruct me through contents. Thank you
I wish they wouldn't make it monthly payement, I didn't spend 200 dollars (it is very expensive in my country) just to pay them more so Im not gonna upgrade that.
Question on your Acer ConceptD 3 Ezel pen. How do you draw without clicking the buttons on the pen? How do I disable it? I can't seem to find it. I just want that whenever the pen comes in contact with the screen, it draws. Not by coming in contact and have to press the button to draw.
Yes. EX has two perfunctory features added to justify the licence's existence so they can continue price gouging for 200% markup, but it does as usual have an the features of PRO.
Hi Brad, do you happen to know any app that allows to create animated full body cartoon like animoji? I was looking for an app to draw and create animated chibi but wasnt sure which app to get
The three options - monthly subscription, update pass and permanent license are a bit confusing. But a one year subscription for that price is a pretty good deal, IMO. Although I probably don't need the EX features, even a thrifty person like me can hardly resist at the price.
EX is a complete grift. The entire in full has 4 QOL features, two of which are completely meaningless, one actual feature (extracting lines/tones from images and models,) and lifting 1 arbitrary restriction on features that ARE in PRO. That's what you're getting for almost +200% the price of the upgrades.
@dioxideuniversal Don't forget unlimited pages and export in ebook formats. I'm not a great defender of software companies, but in this case you could say Pro is too cheap instead of "EX is a grift". Compared to most competitors, it's a steal.

What I find humorous is the backlash for the subscription but since CSP will do things they like now it's okay. Yeah no thanks. People like that are the reasons why companies continue to get away with what they do.
This i can do, i feel like I'm actually paying for a needed upgrade. Not just subscribtion for the sake of it
You will not get any feature update between v2.0 to v3.0.
@@Lygon_ If you use CSP Pro the update pass costs $10 yearly, if you have CSP ex then it cost $30. I think it's pretty affordable.
I wish someone could make a cheap app that can do these things with the 3D models, such as mapping the hands and making the model look the same as your hand, like how ToonSquid was made to be a cheap app for 2D rig animators.
You can use whateer drawing tool and as I did, get, for example, the app Magic Poser wich is unexpensive.
@MagicPoser please include something like this in your app!
I went ahead and upgraded my copy to version 2 today but I'm going to wait a little bit to see what other features they're planning for it in the future before I go all in on a subscription
Can I still buy it and use it without subscription?
What is sweet about this upgrade: Most everything (that shading assistant and hand camera thing look simply awesome)
What isn't: For us longtime CSP owners, not be eligible for any further 2.x upgrades sans subscription. They botched it badly in here and I still resent it.
This said the 1.x EX upgrade is like 40 bucks at current sale price... oh well.
Wow! The ticket to indefinite price gouging is only $40!
I love clip studio, I've been using it for about 2 years now, however my only complaint is that they don't have enough filter options.
Why not split 20 page in different document?
@@sainstv1780 Sure, that would be doable, but it makes things like exporting the whole book more of a hassle.
I bought pro one time purchase for windows and have a yearly plan for android (tab s8 ultra). I am so glad for the align tool. I was wishing it had this for awhile now.😊 CSP is awesome!!
Liquify multiple layers at once is worth the upgrade price on its own! I've been dying to have this feature since they first showed us liquify.
When do they usually do promotions? I always missed them
@@yehet1242 usually once a quarter. Since the March sale just ended, I'd bet on the next sale being in June or July.
I think they may have clarified that the perpetual license doesn't get "early" access to new features, but once they are fully developed and deployed, you will. At least that's how I read it, I upgraded right away, there's a discount currently if you already own v1. :)
You gwt then if you purchase the next perpetual upgrade, aka 3.0.
Also, because they even have the option for both subscription and one time pay I don't think we as a community can be thankful enough.
agreed and its so cheap too
But I have it for free 💀🌚
And I think that alone makes it worth it 🙂
@@AdrianFoy wait...if I've an ipad and a windows PC, with 5 bucks I can have with my csp account both versions at the same time? 👀
@@alejandroromito yes! This is what I have and I pay 7 dollars ❤
I'm excited for some of the new stuff for Text tools and perspective.
At their website, they compare the features of Debut, Pro and EX. So there must be three versions. Pro is powerful and low cost, though.
@@toonlyrics I been using the EX ever since Manga Studio 5 came out. I was just wondering if the Debut was a cheaper option, so I can recommend which the best one if someone asked.
Debut was a version that came with any tablets or other things that had csp as a bonus software- it's identical to the trial version of clip studio paint.
apparently, 2.0 is no longer perpetually usable offline (requires internet every 24 hours for verification)
the hand capture thing will come in very handy
I dont use the 3d features of csp so this major update was a bit of a disappointment. However I did like the new color mixing features.
I wish they would redesign the perspective tools, i find them so irritating to use.
But otherwise, i love the software and the annual subscription price is a bargain.
Yeah the perspective rulers are weirdly unintuitive to use
I bought 2 years ago CSP but didn’t like it. It’s cloud was extremely clunky. Thanks for your video!
$0.04 has been deposited to your account
That hand webcam thing seems so cool. It's too bad my main desktop doesn't have a webcam. :(
i've been on the monthly 4 device for a year and will still keep it because it gives me all updates no matter the version at the standard cost I've been paying
I was hoping they were going to rebuild the app itself.... it's so clunky which is why I always end up going back to photoshop or procreate
More than likely Celsys didn't want Brad calling their grift.
i will probably not be using any of those features other than the blending, auto shading, and maybe the 3d feature
and since i got a free upgrade i might as well just use it
but i dont think its worth it for me to get the subscription to get more features, since even though i have been using clip almost every day
i barely use most of its features (hell i have the full version aka EX and i barely animate on it (i did get it for comics tho which i havent been doing much lately))
so get it if you so want, i recommend upgrading if you get it for free, but if you use clip in the same way i do (even if you animate and make comics) the new features we currently have are not worth it 60 bucks to upgrade
and even less 25 bucks a year for new features that will be available later on on 2.0 and fully available on 3.0 (which is promised to be released next year)
unless you really want a certain feature, or you are certain you will fully use the subscription, i dont recommend getting it ever.
What's throwing me off is that fisheye lense perspective should be a variation on 5 point perspective. I'm curious how they are making it work with 3 point, as I'm not sure it would.
Bought mine today on sale, more bang than the bucks that I paid for, I lost time drawing..
Egad! Wow! Thanks for the demo.
Cool the light auto shading 😁
Is the subscription price for all versions? Do I have to pay 25$ for PC and 25$ for iPad?
How’s the animation tools? I really like the direction they were going in with v1.
The animation tools are a trick to lure you into the absolute scam that is EX's pricing model. They haven't been changed at all. They also don't work well enough for animators to take it seriously.
I have used them and it can't handle high FPS playback. It's choppy, which makes it totally worthless. Don't do it.
@@dioxideuniversal that's a shame because I think toon boom and tvpaint could use a little competition.
CSP, you were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy Adobe, not join them! Bring balance to art programs, not leave them in AAS darkness!
So fast!!! Thanks brad!! ❤
I tried CAS but the lines were jagged AF. Went back to Sketchbook Pro. I have to old version A/D on my PC so I can control the image size and DPI.
Can I still buy it without paying subscription?
I first started watching this forgetting that I had the video speed on slow from speed art. And when he started talking I was wondering why he is talking so slow. And remembered why. 😂 I just now discovered him.
hey brad I've been waiting for a blender video bud
The background save and the curved rulers are the only options that I deem worthy enough for any professional to have a reason to upgrade. ❤
Maybe for you. For me, perceptual color mixing (like Rebelle) is a big deal for me as well as Liquify which works on layers.
@@asimian8500 if Liquify works on Vector layers than Might see some appeal on it.
I've been waiting YEARSSSS for CSP to add an align tool 😭
kind of sad that theyre going the prescription model- its a very affordable price point but I really admired CSP for being "the last bastion" so to speak
the color blending and hand posing tools are the most compelling to me (and also its insane to me that WORD WRAP is being locked behind 2.0 like what the fuck).
Great video but you didn't show where the setting is too adjust the perceptual shading is. You did a weird zoom in thing. But everything else you showed where it is at. Please make another video about it or try to instruct me through contents. Thank you
The shading assist for me is a life saver
is it worth buying if you're a photoshop user? I dont think so but offer is nice.
Personally I hate photoshop (or really any Adobe products)
Personally I really hate photoshop for drawing, this is much better imo
I'm disappointed they didn't improve the UI I probably won't use a lot of this stuff till someone else shows me how it can help
Does all of these applied to the android/iOS version?
I wish they wouldn't make it monthly payement, I didn't spend 200 dollars (it is very expensive in my country) just to pay them more so Im not gonna upgrade that.
Is the subscription worth it?
This doesn't really change much form what I used to do soo why get it?
Question on your Acer ConceptD 3 Ezel pen.
How do you draw without clicking the buttons on the pen? How do I disable it?
I can't seem to find it. I just want that whenever the pen comes in contact with the screen, it draws. Not by coming in contact and have to press the button to draw.
Question: Have you had a chance to review the Nomad 3D design software that can be used with the iPad?
Does CLIP STUDIO PAINT PRO and CLIP STUDIO PAINT EX have all the features shown in the video?
Yes. EX has two perfunctory features added to justify the licence's existence so they can continue price gouging for 200% markup, but it does as usual have an the features of PRO.
Alignment tools?! SOLD!
Hi Brad, do you happen to know any app that allows to create animated full body cartoon like animoji?
I was looking for an app to draw and create animated chibi but wasnt sure which app to get
Will this be a part of the iPad version of the software?
Please review the one plus tablet
is this Pro or EX?
Would love a better iPad experience
Argghhh name your layers. You playing it wild and loose over there.
🤣🤣🤣
Subscription makes sense now, too bad CSP fumbled on their early communication about their business shift
... that's it?
nice updates for 2d artists!
Do we get same update for Clip Studio Paint 2.0 on ipad?
I'm not paying monthly for something I already bought.
Would be nice to see a tablet version that is more tablet oriented. Not paying for this I'm afraid.
Can you please review colors live for Nintendo switch
