Something I find hilarious is that in don't dig up and thus getfixedboi, the KO Cannon get switched with the chain knife and consequently rebalanced to pre-boss stats, and it doesn't even get that much weaker. Its base damage goes from 40 to 18, it actually gets a bit faster, and it has about 23% less knockback.
there is one occasion when the KO cannon is useful. I got a day 1 hard mode blood moon and got the KO cannon. It carried me through the first few days of hard mode pretty nicely.
A theme I am noticing with a lot of the poorly performing melee weapons is that they came at a time where extended range melee was much more rare, than again we also got old vampire knifes back than so I guess they just drew the short stick.
KO cannon could be useful if terraria ever added a set of inventory slots where you used different weapons based on the distance from the cursor to the player. For a ranger, automatically pulling out the KO-cannon against targets at close range could be a good way to get them off of you. Without a system like that knockback melees are basically never going to be very useful.
When I first time played this game in 2014. If I remember right the KO Cannon dropped from Hallowen Enemies and I got one from Pixis if I remember right. I felt like it's a strong weapon and have been using it for early Hardmode
The KO cannon might be bad on normal worlds but if you get this early prehard mode in getfixedboi, you’ll have such an easy time as it replaces the chain knife from bats
I remember my first playthrough of this game (probably 1.2ish?) I was struggling so badly in the early hardmode and this weapon saved me from a lot of pain during the night. The extreme knockback kept enemies at bay.
I think before the bananarang got its buff, making you not have to get 10 of them there was a legit argument for the KO canon since you only needed one of them and farming 10 bananarangs was so tedious due to clowns being rare and the rangs being only 10% chance to drop. But, at least it doesn’t claim to be an amazing weapon like its big brother from golem.
What challenge run would this even be useful in? Even in a launched flails only run, it is completely outclassed by the chain Guillotines, and is unlocked at the same time as the anchor, which is a better stepping stone to the chain Guillotines. I guess if you’re doing weapons that start with K only, it would be a massive upgrade to the katana, but that would be reliant on you not allowing weapons who just have a word starts with K, as the shadow flame knife blows it out of the water.
I think it is worth noting that the KO Cannon is better than literally any of the Cobalt, Palladium, Mithryl, or Orichalcum melee weapons versus regular enemies (the Orichalcum Halberd is *possibly* better than the KO Cannon at bossing...maybe). I think that the worst weapon in the game for when you can get it is probably the Phasesaber...requiring gems, crystal shards, and a hardmode anvil to craft...and being essentially no better than a Palladium Sword, or its precursor in the Phaseblade...which requires you to defeat the Eater/Brain, then mine a bunch of meteorite...or you could just craft a Light's Bane/Blood Butcherer with the stuff the Eater/Brain dropped when you defeated them and get much better weapons.
They should make it either apply the dazed debuff or apply a little bit of knockback to even bosses, just so it truly has some things that help it stand out
The only thing I can think of to make it somewhat better is that it bounces you away when you hit a block. I thought of this while playing with no WASD. And maybe they cause a minor explosion when hit
Once you've ranked all the weapons you want to rank, you should make a tier list with all of them (I mean you might already be planning that but still)

Please please please review the Boomstick. My go to weapon for pre-boss, lasts through the majority of pre-Hardmode only cast aside after Skeletron. One of the best pre-boss weapons easily. Easily beats the midshark cuz it has higher dps and less ammo consumption
I weirdly had the memory of it being locked as a plantera drop which already made it so much worst than it already is, still a bad weapon but less than expected.

Melee class is the best because its the only class that lets you kill giant mechanical guardians with some bananas that function as a boomerang.

Honestly, I think KO cannon should be reworked as as ranged version of a slap hand, it will make much more sense

The only reason I remember this weapon is because one time I had a slime drop both this and the Slime Staff.

For mobile, I got some use out of the ko cannon as we didn't have difficulty modes when I played. With lockon it was decent.
