I actually have no idea what the stats are for most weapons outside of the very very early game because I usually have stuff that increases damage in my build and I never check what the damage is before those buffs
The beam sword is essentially a victim of power creep... It was at least useful back in 1.2 when it was added but with the massive buffs to a lot of other melee weapons it just simply is a junk blade.
More than that, they just added so many better options. Pretty sure the Frostbrand was the only other weapon he mentioned in the video that came out before 1.3. To be fair it was always pretty mid, but it wasn't as outclassed as it is now.
@orangejuice3235 As you said, it made some sense for it to be that way, it is an enchanted sword taking the place of the bone sword on the "would be nice to get in early (pre)hardmode". Same situation with the bone sword too, with the iceblade existing. Regular cavern loot has the issue of being immediately outclassed yet very rare since those items would otherwise clog player inventories. Doesn't help either that the sword rework has immensely buffed the Terrablade tree, rendering even weapons from further stages obsolete. The enchanted sword, which used to be top 3 (if not the best) sword of pre-hardmode, is now outclassed by 3/5 of Nights Edge's components, which is now strong enough to cruise through pre-mech. The beam sword is just a bigger enchanted sword, it is obsolete even before being available.
Nothing but bad memories of this weapon filling up my grinder chests with no purpose, being a pain to remove whilst also being unstackable. One of the reasons that I love magic storage ngl
iirc, the beam projectile is buffed to have much more damage, more kb, and travels much faster which makes it somewhat of a melee version of a sniper. I remember keeping it even after its intended progression time bc I just really liked the projectile
@@fragmentedrose7401 *less than mediocre i used that thing like once and i switched to the breaker blade after trying to kill a mech boss using it. the breaker blade is much better since it has 50% armor penetration and it deals 500 damage on the first hit (after that its only 200 damage)
I think that most of such obscure weapons were added just so that each playthrough feels different. If you randomly get this thing once in a blue moon in one of your playthroughs - you can use it for some time and throw away after you find a better replacement.
I remember back in the old days, I used to be really happy I got this sword. It used to fire one projectile every swing and swing a lot slower. But it was so much more hard hitting and it really helped against the twins honestly. Seeing this makes me wonder What did they do to the blade!?!?!?
Beam sword made some sense as a worse version of old terrablade that you got earlier, but terrablade moved on and that was forgotten in it's corner. Tbh, the drop rate isn't all that bad, considering How Common those skeletons are. Even in a plantera arena, they come in waves there.

At least it's not the Flintlock Pistol, it can only be gotten by buying it from the Arms Dealer but it gets out performed by the Musket, the Undertaker, and the Boomstick. It gets out performed by the weapons necessary to access it.
I started playing terraria back when 1.2.1 came out, when hero was using the chest glitch to make money in his world. On the first run I ever had that got to hardmode and while going around I randomly got it and my lord did it blow me away, back then it was one of the best projectile swords pre mech (afaik) and it was just so cool. Also it got a *great* rework in calamity, that mod did wonders for so many weapons
The beam sword will always hold a special place in my heart as the weapon I beat the mechs with when 1.2 released, back then it just felt so good, despite it being almost the same as it is today.
1:36 If I knew it was this rare I wouldn't have trashed it, like my first armored skeleton in my first playthrough of this game dropped it, and I got confused when it didn't drop again.
On my most recent playthrough, I hung around underground right after killing the Wall for like 10 minutes. I got a Beam Sword. It is actually a good weapon for dealing with the Queen Slime if you get it incidentally. It is not worth farming, for sure. But if you get it right after starting HM, it's perfectly serviceable. And with the Queen Slime having a relatively low defense, and having any sort of okay projectile/melee hybrid weapon being a big bonus for this particular fight...I think that is its niche. It is a tiny one.
idk if this is still the case, but the Calamity Mod buffs this sword to the moon. it used to swing extremely fast, but then it just became huge and did way too much damage.
I remember just thinking it looked neat and wanted it for that reason way back in 1.2.4 or something Literally took 3 hours straight of farming to get it (not including some days where I farmed and just didn’t get it). I really wish it was better. It really does deserve a buff now that the Tera Blade has been changed

I think making the beam sword into a hard hitting chargable weapon would be a cool idea so that it can perform great against high defense targets in early hardmode such as turtles, and all those armored fricks.
I’m trying to come up with a challenge run where this thing would be useful, and the best I got is “weapons with the word sword in them only.” But you would also have access to the titanium/adamantine sword at that point, so how do those compare to the beam sword?
imo the things the beam sword needs is 1. Piercing 2. Higher drop rate 3. Faster speed 4. Higher damage granted the only reason I say this is because it should function like a weaker og terra blade, so at bare minimum make the projectiles come out every swing.
Only reason I know what the beam sword is is because Stampy used it in his playthrough. I think someone he way playing with gave it to him early? Had no idea it got resprited recently
Beam Sword is supposed to be an early hardmode drop you are happy to get but don't actively hunt for. Yeah, it's worse than things like the Frostbrand and Bladetongue. But it's dropped by one of the most basic possible hardmode enemies in plain underground where you'll be going through anyway while mining HM ores. I've used it a couple of times when it dropped before I had a better weapon. It does its job.
The man thing that's bad about the Beam Sword is how hard and difficult it is to get. Maybe if Re-Logic buffed it's drop rate to 12.67% or something like that, and lowered the beam's cooldown, it could actually be a better option for Pre-Mech Melee players.
They should add a charge like others said. Maybe the charge makes you spin in a circle to fire beams everywhere like in Zelda and a buff for when at full HP since it's a reference to it. It'll should maybe do extra damage to 'evil' biome enemies maybe? It is supposed to be a reference to LoZ so, feels right to me. It'll also feel a bit better to use and not so much an annoyance if gotten accidentally during farming and clogs up your inventory.
It really should get some kind of buff to be a sidegrade to the frostbrand. There is a decent niche for this weapon though, and I do actually use it in a lot of ranger playthoughs. Basically, I usually get it while farming magic quivers, and the knockback and swing speed make it a servicable "get off me tool" for rangers when early hardmode is so full of knockback resistant fighter enemies, buffed bats, and tanky flying enemies. It should absolutely be buffed though. The projectile should be replaced by an actual beam that does 3 rapid hits to whatever target is closest to the origin point.
I have vague memories of the beamsword not being as ass as it is nowadays. Back in the day my friends and I on Xbox 360 (1.2) actually celebrated whenever one of these dropped in early hardmode, but maybe we were stupid idk.

I feel like there was a tiny use for this blade before 1.4 (ironically when it was even less powerful). If you were a melee player and you just entered hardmode, didn't get the breaker blade, and you found it straight away, it was a good weapon because it had decent range and was better than the enchanted sword so you could use it on the wraiths from altars and other hardmode enemies. However, the mere existence of the Night's Edge makes this weapon useless
I used this weapon a lot as a kid when I played mobile Terraria. It did more damage than anything else I had, and it had a projectile. It also somehow dropped for me really early into hardmode and carried me quite far.
I got the Beam Sword like 5 minutes into hardmode the first time I beat the WoF (back in 2016, when Terraria on mobile was still on 1.2), and it instantly became my favorite weapon because it had a projectile that created light, and apparently 14 year old me didn’t realize that torches existed 😂😂
My freind suggested that the beam sword was supposed to be successor of the enchanted sword (like a hard mode version) and it suprused me how much i hated that idea. Side note, the real successor of the enchanted sword is the meowmere, change my mind
Up the drop rate, then make the projectile seek and pierce, allowing it to deal with crowds or hit the same target a few times! I feel like that’s fitting of the “beam” title
The enchanted sword and the beam sword should be changed so that their projectile cooldown is based off of attack speed stat like the terrablade rework. And make their swing type be of shortswords too keep the foward thrusting projectile style. I feel like this change could give a fair chance for the weapons too hold up against the competition.
Y'all need to not hate the beam sword so much. Back in the 3ds days. This weapon was top for early and mid hardmode. Personally. This was one of my favorite weapons for beating the destroyer. But that's just me. And it was not that hard to obtain to be honest.
It’s very easy to get it with almost any sort of underground coin farm. I almost always build one, and I get tons. Also basic underground is going to be much easier to get because of less possible spawns
I can think of a couple of ways to improve this overall diaster of a sword- One way could simply be to increase knockback or how much beams it spits out.... but that's rather mundane- Second idea is make it able to charge up an attack and fire a more powerful beam, doing double damage. Then making it used in making another weapon mixed with an emchanted sword, like how you use broken hero blades/stronger materials in upgrading Excalibur and Night's Edge. This, in turn, would be used in making the Zenith. Makes the blade a lot more useful in progression and just in general a better blade.
It's good if you just get it while mining early on in Hardmode because you don't have to grind any other weapons for exploration since Beam Sword takes care of basic enemies. It's not meant to be a boss fighter or event destroyer, just a basic weapon to get you through most of the HM ore mining portion of the game without having to sidetrack. Think of it like the Chain Knife, 0.4% drop chance on any difficulty and completely useless for anything outside of exploration. Just pops up at the start sometimes and saves you the trouble of upgrading your melee until you need to fight something serious.
Yeah I only use it for like 10 minutes when I get it as a freak drop at the start of hardmode. Imo they should just make it craftable with souls of light and a enchanted sword and give it a slight damage buff.
They should make the beam sword like the sky dragons fury: Left click to do a series of slashes like the terragrim Right click to slash a beam out that can pierce 5 enemies & it'll be bigger and stronger if you have full health

It’s very easy to get it with almost any sort of underground coin farm. I almost always build one, and I get tons. Also basic underground is going to be much easier to get because of less possible spawns
I can think of a couple of ways to improve this overall diaster of a sword-
One way could simply be to increase knockback or how much beams it spits out.... but that's rather mundane-
Second idea is make it able to charge up an attack and fire a more powerful beam, doing double damage.
Just pops up at the start sometimes and saves you the trouble of upgrading your melee until you need to fight something serious.
when i got it in a playthrough not too long ago, i fought it was about as rare as an amarok, but i wasnt even close to guessing the rarity!
Funnily enough I found this thing right after starting hardmode in one of my recent worlds so it was actually pretty useful
The marrow sitting the corner acting like he’s not got the exact same issues
Yeah I only use it for like 10 minutes when I get it as a freak drop at the start of hardmode. Imo they should just make it craftable with souls of light and a enchanted sword and give it a slight damage buff.
what if the projectile reload speed was attached to the melee speed?
that sounds cool.
I usually do afk farms so its very common for me to see 5 of them in the ground after a little bit of afk
They should make the beam sword like the sky dragons fury:
Left click to do a series of slashes like the terragrim
Right click to slash a beam out that can pierce 5 enemies & it'll be bigger and stronger if you have full health
I always assumed that the thing only exists to be a reference to the Master Sword from Zelda
My first ever armored skeleton dropped the sword and it carried me to plantera. It is just such a good melee until the terarium sword appears
