It’s kind of like having a home movie and cool the way tech can help us see and appreciate all the thought and effort that went into something like this. Out of curiosity how did you get connected? Looking through etsy makes me question how many sellers peel off a “Made In… Mexico/Vietnam/China/etc” sticker before shipping the product out so just curious how you found him given that you aren’t located anywhere near each other?
I first saw his video Super Rare Burl Turned into One Of A Kind Table. which I loved and the video was 6 months old already so I thought it was long gone, But Shane still had it on Etsy so I bought it right away, so it went from there, @@inmyimage1081

I’m 70 and have been woodworking for well over 45 years. Of course, I’ve seen huge changes in that time from tools like the router to modern glues. What doesn’t change is skill. It seems to me that you have the aptitude and the desire to grow your skills. Absolutely wonderful to see on a young person. But woodworking skill can only take you so far. The really complete furniture maker adds design to his skill set. This piece shows that you care about design and want to put design over ease of make. That is again the fight way in my view. I would gladly have that piece in my house. It’s already a very eclectic selection of pieces from mid 18th century through Arts and Crafts to very modern. The only thing that unites them is that they please my wife and I. There are 2 phrases in my shop which I need to look at: Patience and precision leads to perfection. In other words, take your time; my body won’t take long in the shop and I’m learning to stop before I get achy and try and rush something Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. This is about remembering that, although I can make the most intricate pieces, doesn’t mean that they are the best looking pieces. Look for simplicity and let the timber and design do the work. Keep up the good work and keep that desire to try something new. From a new subscriber

i´m 10 years younger then you, but absolutly agree with you ... i´ve been working with wood all my professional life, designing and producing furniture and other interieur ... you can only improove and build skills by doing ... and no joke, wood really talks to you, if you can listen ;-)
I've been woodworking for 38 years, my customers always show me a picture and ask "Can you make this?" Sure I can. But, I wish I had your talent for creative design. Awesome workmanship man.
I have been designing and manufacturing custom built furniture for 47 years and I enjoy the process to this day. As a seasoned pro my advice to anyone planning to make a career of this is DO NOT ever tell your potential clients you have never done something before as they get a bit nervous and it makes you look like an amateur. Only show your best work to clients and the most important tip I could give is never promise to complete something within a specific time frame. Always give yourself an extra day or two in case something happens like you have to get jigsaw blades or wait on gold leaf! Oh and don't give clients too many choices as most do not know about furniture design and can get overwhelmed. Keep it simple and avoid compound angles as your head may explode! Too complicated....
53 year old that laughed at your rotary phone, record player, walkman reference!! Too flipping funny. Your battery switch practice had me in stitches! The shape was great...actually very reminiscent of 60s 70s decor. but with a modern twist. Beautiful table! I enjoyed watching your process.
Looks good! Ideas (what you might call constructive criticism, though I wouldn't consider any of it _criticism,_ per se): If you ever do that gold-leafed hole through the legs on another project again, maybe try chamfering (or rounding) the hole. I would probably have rotated the legs a bit so that they were further apart at the concave end of the table as well. That part of the table looks as if someone, or something, were meant to "belly-up" to it. Having the legs more open on that side would enhance that look, and give it a more "intentional" feel. That would make the whole piece look more unified, and less like a tabletop bolted on to some legs. Slanting legs outward (or maybe inward, I'd have to see a mock-up to see if it would look good) might also help with that.
I think your table is very cool. I am a trained designer (architect for 38 years) and you have a great eye. I really like what you did with this table.
I'm not between 18 and 25 years of age as you suggest, but I used to be, about 63 years ago! I love your video of the oval table build. It turned out beautiful. FYI, if I didn't like it I would tell you so. Nice work and keep up the good work...
I am 22 and your videos are awesome. You have a calm and cool voice and when you're talking about woodworking, it is very easy to hear your interest and excitement in what you're doing. Keep up the fantastic work.
I just found your channel. I'm age 22 and did gymnastics for 14 years. I started work at age 13 with a property management company to pay for gymnastics academy fees. It started as demolition and cleaning up but then into fixing furniture and getting creative. An older guy was into woodworking and he paid me for help with lumber and muscling things around. I did these jobs a few summers and found the woodworking part the most fun. I unfortunately got severely beat up at age 16 but was extremely muscular and outlasted them having their fun. But that started me focusing my attention to bodybuilding and building rock hard abs and all that got me moving out of gymnastics by age 18 at high school graduation. Then pandemic hit my first year of community college. I found work at Menards in their buildings materials section. I got noticed in the lumber yard by some young guys in construction who got me a full time job with their construction company. I've been learning a lot about framing and recently into dry walling. BUT I've not lost my desire to build nice furniture. I'm still figuring out what to do in life but videos like yours are great to see. I like the bean because it's similar to the Bean in Chicago. I know that there is a huge need for guys like me in the construction trades and feel that is where I'm meant to be in some way or other. I can see me joining a woodworking company some day. Keep up what you're doing, When I get time I'll check out more of your videos. And be careful as you continue to be "stupid" at the band saw.
Anthony, To put yourself through the grueling regiment of gymnastics and to work at such a young age to pay for the training shows commitment and character. I have faith you will find a way to achieve your goals. Never give up!
this table is indeed perfectly designed and colors very well fit together!!! so please don't be shy or nervous about your capabilities!!! you are a great woodworker and designer!!!
I like beans. But I happen to love designing /planning/ seeing the end results. Worked as a “picture framer for 20 years. Framed more than just canvases and flat art. Framed people’s treasures like baby outfits. Special tools. Shadow box type. As long as the people loved and I felt I did them right.. … it was a success. Often we are our own worst critics in such artistic endeavors. I love walnut even though I hated picking up the nuts…in Willamette valley area in Oregon actually grew up in a town that used to be called Walnut City! Keep exercising your creativity as it will grow and stay energized. I loved what I did! I have done so many different things besides framing. It was in me from a very young age! The black was a great choice as it made the wood grain on top pop and the gold worked well. And I love beans. It’s a great combo and appeals to the eye in my opinion. Every artist grows their talent even through failures they are all learning experiences that even the best have travelled that road.
Very fine piece of art. Not too gaudy, and the gold leaf adds something to bring the design beyond basic. I would proudly display this table in any room of my home.
Once you become more practiced in your craft, you can decide the best way to achieve your required design as you imagine it. You will also, by then, have acquired more tools and specialized attachments for even better performance. Everyone lays awake at night at some time in their career, dreaming of the next big project. Can't wait to see how you build your business. I am a 74-year-old woman, and my grandfather had to go to school uphill both ways in the snow. LOL

It's actually a credit to your craftsmanship, holding up against UPS handling. I love the tabletop! I love the legs, a little less...but hey, they fit in more ways than I can disagree with. You did an excellent job! I enjoyed the process and video, very much!
Hey this is Stan I'm 80 years old and I'm so impressed with your work I can't even believe it I'll give you one little trip for the gold leaf use a squirrel tail kind of make a paintbrush in the static will put the gold where you want it to go this is on say a piece that's a little more Bumpy cause gold leaf is really hard to handle but the static from a squirrel tail makes it easy good job
I make custom furniture for clients and my own designs. What you said about designing over making is exactly how I feel. I love designing but don’t actually love the process of making something perfectly. I do love the prototype phase and making sure a design ‘works’. That’s why when I was setting up my business I had my first goal as getting someone in to do the making for me so I can concentrate on designing and then prototyping things and making sure the process is there for someone else to make. My designs are generally in metal so it’s slightly different but I would say this was a real turning point for me.
This was the first project of yours I've viewed. I was very impressed by your demeanor and process. I liked your material choices and your innovation...the goldleaf accents are stunning. And the shape of the legs is truly attractive. My only criticism is that IMO: the legs are oversized for the top. Getting proportions right is a difficult call. I could easily see them on a long console table or enlarged even more for a dining table. But, your overall execution...A+!
Great video! I especially liked the oval drawing. Little mathematical note: that device to draw an ellipse (a term with a specific mathematical meaning, with oval being a general term) is a Trammel of Archimedes, an eponymous invention. An ellipse may also be drawn by: fixing two points on a flat surface, as with nails, and placing a pencil and both nails all inside one loop of string of any length. Draw an ellipse with the pencil holding the string taut. An ellipse is the set of all points whose sum of the distances to the two points, the foci, is constant, made real by the string loop.
Looks great! I don't like the bean shape tbh but I think the design is solid. Colours look good too; even the finishes work well together (shiny gold, satin top, matte legs).
Walking five miles, uphill both ways, to school,--- you forgot “ knee deep in snow”, I’m in that generation, but will say this, I love that table young man, you stay the course, Quality wins over quantity hands down. I subscribed, liked, and thank you for the project video.
This is the first video I've seen of yours. Enought to say it certainly got you a like and a subscribe. You asked for comments on the table, honest ones, well here goes. If I were the customer I'd be well pleased with the result, it does look great and the use of the gold leaf in the leg reveals is a great touch that makes the legs pop. My one criticism is that the legs look a little over sized for the top, maybe the could have been a little thinner. The black stain really works with the walnut. The kidney bean shape of the top is great, I'd be happy to own that piece of furniture. Slim, hand cut bow-ties certainly do look better than machine rounded ones. That's one design choice you've nailed. You don't train or "qualify" as a designer, you can either do it and make great pieces or you can't. It seems that you can. One day I'd like to see a designer use resin colours other than black. Imagine if you will that the inside of the large hole in the top was lined gold and then filled with a transparent, lightly tinted resin. How might that look? I would complimented the legs in this case.
You did an awesome Job on this table. I am not a young person but I am a woodworker with a lot of experience and your design choice works well. Keep it up! 😊❤
Not sure if I've ever commented on a video before but just had to say the way you described why you woodwork couldn't be any more dead on to the way I feel. Just begun woodworking/carving and it's a way to settle the incessant creative mind, in a grounding medium. So calming. Cool to hear it from someone else. Subscribed and liked, thanks for the video!
You had me at “Walkman!” I love this table and the gold leaf is a real surprise and turned out so nice. It’s cool you wore one of Cam’s shirts. You remind me a little of him. He’s also experimental and fun to watch.
The bean shape really compliments the swirling grain patterns. At first I thought the gold on black base was too gaudy, but in the final shots you see how it ties in with the hints of yellow and gold colors in the top. This makes me wonder why there aren't more curved/organic type shapes used with these slabs that have lots of curving figure...
I absolutely LOVE it! The texture of the wood, the solid weight (can you say that in English?)of the piece, the uninspectid and beautiful combination of gold plated modern “legs” and the tabletop grown for centuries. Yes, the history, the present and probably the future all in one! And, yes the kidney shape is perfect!❤
Awesome build! Very informative video too! "Sometimes less is more" says the man who just gold leafed the inside of two table legs. 🤔 Great choice on the black dye, creates a beautiful contrast with the gold. Also, that 'oval' shape you kept mentioning is actually called an ellipse. An oval has a big bottom radius with a smaller top radius (like an egg). Anyway, a great build, will definitely check out more of your content.
As an old gen-xer, I giggled at your references to old tech. I didn’t think I was going to care for this design, but the beauty of the tabletop grain pattern alone won me over. I have to agree with a couple of other commenters that changing the angle of the legs might have resulted in a more balanced(?) look, but overall, you did a fine job on this piece. New sub. 🙂
I love it ❤. So much to take in visually, but wonderful to see the end result. I am 75, but still love piddling with wood . I just got an order to build my next (601st) birdhouse.
I've always loved the kidney shape myself. Maybe setting the legs at a slight opposing angles to follow the shape of the kidney (think trapezoid) might have made the inner gold ovals a little more visible. Great job
Pretty Dang Cool! I really loved the legs -- gold leaf against dyed oak is gorgeous! And I even learned stuff! (Didn't know there was a pronunciation for the "word" OG.) Of topic -- those aren't baby mountains -- if the Rockies ever live long enough to be as old as the Appalachians, they'll be rounded and a lot smaller, too. Good to see fine work and design from the old stomping grounds -- I used to live in Mont Alto and loved spending uncountable amounts of time in the same mountains. Cheers!
I'm 59 the concept for this table works. I would place it in the entrance hall of a home. I really like the legs of the table. If you're thinking of making them regularly I'd look into brass sheets and cutting them yourself or having the supplier cutting them into strips for you.

I am 28 but I understand gen Z slang. Dope design. You made it in really efficient way. You know your stuff. In summary, congrats 😊
Personally, I truly LOVE the design. It is super creative and very unique! Way to go and keep creating! 😊
I like it. Very creative use of your materials and really clean work.
Amazing finished peice. First time coming across your channel. I look forward to watching more . Very talented
Nice job buddy, keep on building
I love it so much! I’m not usually interested in the legs people make in videos like this, but they were gorgeous!
I did not initially like the shape very much, however, of really came together! I think it's absolutely gorgeous. Well done.
Excellent design and build. Well done.
Keep it up! 😊❤
Outstanding , amazing wood too !
Great work. Awesome looking table.
Love your work. Honestly, if you hadn't mentioned it, I would not have thought that it's bean shaped. Keep up the good work. God bless.
My first experience with your videos. Well done! Love your style and your storytelling. Keep it up!
This was pretty excellent…you will create even more beautiful pieces.
At the beginning i thought the bean idea was nuts. it grew on me by the end. The table looks great.
Excellent work!! That table is beautiful!! I can’t even dream of making something that gorgeous
Cool looking table, very young and vibrant as it should be.
Glad you could relate!! Thanks for watching.
I like it. You are a true creator with an eye for detail. And you edit a good video.
I like it! I like things a little more angular but I'd rock this in my entryway, no questions.
You had me at “Walkman!” I love this table and the gold leaf is a real surprise and turned out so nice.
It’s cool you wore one of Cam’s shirts. You remind me a little of him. He’s also experimental and fun to watch.
Absolutely awesome table ,loved the bean shape and also your videos. I look forward to more.🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I love love love this table. You did an outstanding job!
im 18 and a woodworker i love your stuff thanks
Thanks!
Absolutely brilliant, simply not standard, that's what I like.
I love what you did with this table, great design
I like this bean shape table. It's a one of a kind. I'm from Taiwan and we eat a lot of beans here. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome Work - Enjoyed your Narration !
Being unique is 1 of the best things to ever be. The table is dope!
Nice job. I like the design
Absolutely loved your video First time I have seen you love the mistakes you made And that you kept them in the video Table looked AMAZING
Looks really nice! Love the leg design
Awesome build! Very informative video too!
"Sometimes less is more" says the man who just gold leafed the inside of two table legs. 🤔
Great choice on the black dye, creates a beautiful contrast with the gold.
Also, that 'oval' shape you kept mentioning is actually called an ellipse. An oval has a big bottom radius with a smaller top radius (like an egg).
Anyway, a great build, will definitely check out more of your content.
Absolutely beautiful!!
Very pretty piece of work.
Beautiful wood, I love the black dye with gold. (I've used black leather dye with huge success). Overall shape/design: EXELLENT
Great video and design. People from Massachusetts also use the state abbreviation when they say where they’re from ie Boston, Mass.
I really like the table, great work
I've always loved the kidney shape myself. Maybe setting the legs at a slight opposing angles to follow the shape of the kidney (think trapezoid) might have made the inner gold ovals a little more visible. Great job
I definitely played with that idea in the design process!
Outstanding! Totally dig it!
Glad you like it!
I have a ton of red oak I'm milling right now. I have a few pecan and maple limbs I'm working on too. This look great!
Pretty Dang Cool! I really loved the legs -- gold leaf against dyed oak is gorgeous!
And I even learned stuff! (Didn't know there was a pronunciation for the "word" OG.)
Of topic -- those aren't baby mountains -- if the Rockies ever live long enough to be as old as the Appalachians, they'll be rounded and a lot smaller, too.
Good to see fine work and design from the old stomping grounds -- I used to live in Mont Alto and loved spending uncountable amounts of time in the same mountains.
Cheers!
I love the table you did great. Im new to wood working and learning a lot the more i do
Gorgeous unique piece.
Nice to find your channel. This build is fabulous! Keep up the good work 💯
I'm 59 the concept for this table works. I would place it in the entrance hall of a home. I really like the legs of the table. If you're thinking of making them regularly I'd look into brass sheets and cutting them yourself or having the supplier cutting them into strips for you.
It's the first thing you see as you walk into my entrance hallway toward my living room.
Excellent build
I've always liked different looking furniture. It's a beautiful piece. Great work.
Thank you!!
Kidney shaped desks were common in the past .... Love your modern version .
Beautiful table!
Beautiful design. A more bronzed gold color to match the walnut may be my preference but it looks super slick as is.
Will you do a video on the selling process? Like where you sell, you calculate shipping on something so big stuff like that. I’m a business owner, and I tried to branch out on etsy but I had no luck. My business has nothing to do with woodworking tho.
