2021 Ranger Tugs R-27 will extend your cruising season in style | PowerBoat TV

  • Distance exploring by boat is often a compromise. Coastal cruisers are limited by time or range, while trailer boaters by transportation permit or comfort. Ranger Tugs' R-27 attempts to eliminate these compromises with a luxurious, comfy, yet trailer-able boat. We had the chance to try one out for a few hours, in November! And before you complain about how long it takes to get anywhere at 8 knots, we crack 40mph in this “tug”!

    What a nice boat. I really like the fact it only has one outboard. Another five or 600 pounds on the back of the boat would completely change the ride, balance and trailering. I’ve seen one like this with a small kicker on the side in case there’s engine problems with the big one. Just wish I could afford it.

    I've been emailing Ranger for years telling them to redesign the hull and make a faster boat. Not all of us want to cruise a 9knots like the old R27. They finally listened to me and built this boat the way it should have been built from day one.

    I really enjoyed this presentation, Thank you! I live in Alaska, Aluminum is the preferred material for a boat, but boy howdy is that expensive. These Ranger Tugs are very compelling, but I am concerned about only a single prop in the water. I suppose a trolling motor could be added to limp around if needed, but two engines are preferable. Great Video!

      *Ken Weiss* "I am concerned about only a single prop in the water."
      An auxiliary bracket for the stern platform is available factory installed for $370, and a 9.9 horsepower trolling/auxiliary motor package with tie bar steering and remote throttle control is $6,905.

    I would definitely want at least a 3/4 ton truck to tow that even if it's only a gas powered one, especially if it's linger distances or over terrain that has slopes. I'm sure a new half ton could pull it and it'd be within ratings but weight itself isn't the only factor and you also need to think about how much area is getting hit by wind and pushing you and how close you are to your max tow rating, you don't want to be sitting at 9k lbs with this boat and a trailer and have a max tow rating of 9.5k lbs.

    Man, what a beautiful boat. The only design improvement I can possibly see, is to design the passenger seat so it folds flat and extends the counter for when cooking. More prep room for cooking would be beneficial. I would love to have one though.

      @GrandmaEmme 2 роки тому +1

      The seat does fold flat. Look at the bottom of the seat when he lifts it, you can see a board attached there that can be a cutting board. Our RT 29 seat is just like this, goes to flat.

    the trailerability of this makes it an obvious choice. Unfortunately there are ZERO used OB Rangers on the market. Ihave been studying trailer cruisers capable of blue water, boats over the last 12 months (as I plan to buy) and this is the best trailer boat on the market imo. My truck can only tow 3100kg in spec (Triton) so I may have to gut the boat before I tow it (or get a new truck). Its gorgeous. Now with lockdowns just need the chance to get onboard one.

    Nice little cruiser but it definitely has the appearance of a small trawler far more than that of a tug. Me thinks it has been wrongly named/labeled. It doesn't have the high bulbous prow, stubby cabin or wide beam of a tug. The only tug-like look is reflected in the radius curved front window structure of the wheel house. It unquestionably resembles the relatively lower, longer, narrower lines of a trawler. Certainly the performance is more cabin cruiser than tug.

      They considered launching the inboard 27 foot in Norway some years ago. I found it quite cramped, impractical and dark, and I don't think I was the only one with that thought. It never actually came to market, but the sales person was aiming for a CE cat B for the boat. Personally I believe it would be eligible for that category, but the classification was never finished as far as I know

    Has anyone looked at the spec sheet? This vessel burns 5gph @ 2500 rpm for a speed of 8 1/2 kts. Raise the revs and fuel burn increases exponentially. A Nordic Tug 26 with Yanmar 110 diesel gives you the same speed at less that 2 gph. Youre not going to cruise very long at 15 mph with a fuel burn of 9gph.

    • @mvcharisma2968
      @mvcharisma2968 Рік тому +1

      A Nordic Tug won’t do over 30 mph like this boat. It’s fairly simple to figure out that more horsepower and more speed equals more fuel burnt. Different boats for different folks

    Very nice boat, I'm sure it would be wonderful to take a cruise. So you haul this boat behind a 1/2 ton pickup for a couple days, then a couple days on the water, then a couple days towing. Maybe 10 mpg for the truck and 2 mpg for the boat? So that would be about 100 gallons of gas for the trip? Price of truck and boat, maybe $250,000? The climate is being wrecked, more and more people are in poverty, infrastructure crumbling. Must be nice to get away from all that in luxury. Only have to not realize you are that you are the problem, surely you can blame someone else and feel fine about what you are doing.
