    Hey, thanks for the video. I'm a little surprised that people would avoid nori because of the possibility (and high likelihood) that zooplankton get blended up in the production process. Is anyone aware of how bees are treated by the commercial pollination industry? People will want to rule out the majority of bee pollinated produce too!

    • @TheRawAdvantage
      @TheRawAdvantage  10 років тому +1

      We all do what we can, making the decisions based on our perception and awareness. I always found nori to taste Fishy, the reality that there is those crustacians blended up along with the nori and the point that I always felt a bit off when eating more than a few sheets has led me to avoid it.

    I stopped eating nori when I learnt about this. But the thing is, bugs die in celery and lettuce for example. Its almost impossible not to kill bugs. I mean its a tough one. But also health not just just the ethical side is one to consider in this. And environmental too.
    What a genius recipe by the way :) papaya , zucchini and tomato sounds like a wonderful salad dressing.
    Funny intro. You're the best!

    • @TheRawAdvantage
      @TheRawAdvantage  10 років тому +1

      Aww Bliss you Katie, Wait till you Try them, they are so good it becomes a preference for that alone!
      I hear ya on the bugs and harvesting veggies, heck even walking and breathing its near imposible to fully avoid some life. That said the main difference here is that Small shrimp like creatures among others are actually ground into the sheets, so there is actually Sea Life in the sheets, not just being harmed in the production and collection. To me this is a big difference.
      Enjoy all!! :)

    • @katie4916
      @katie4916 10 років тому +1

      Yes yes very true. Wasn't thinking about that when I wrote my comment. We take the bugs off the celery, don't consume them.
      I need to buy a good blender to try this. I have a recipe book, like 30 pages long haha so I need to make them all when I buy equipment. I'm living away from home at the moment, and eating most of my food whole at the moment so Yea. Do you taste the papaya in the nori or more salty taste?

    • @TheRawAdvantage
      @TheRawAdvantage  10 років тому

      Katie Prebble
      a good blender will help but really any blender will do for this recipe. You can use celery to push the greens in, that works pretty well :)
      While you taste a bit of sweet it is for sure more of a savoury taste from all the greens, especially purslane! :)

    • @katie4916
      @katie4916 10 років тому +1

      TheRawAdvantage great tip with using celery. Thanks Chris. Gosh sounds so yum :) also carrot rice is good and more flavorful than cauliflower rice people say. But I guess if you want to add a lot of veg in it, you don't need the rice base to be that flavorful. I'm sure your cauli rice is though :)

      Pleasure! :) MM sounds good too for sure, I at times use sprouts or zucchini noodles that I chop up into little "rice" like bits, or grated Jamima :) so many options! :)

    Hello! I love this idea and want to try it. There is no way I can get papaya. What could I substitute? No mangoes either. Well, maybe I could get some expensive frozen mango, but definitely no papaya. Any idea what would make a good substitute? Thank you!

    • @TheRawAdvantage
      @TheRawAdvantage  2 роки тому +1

      Heya Barbara, I’d say mango / frozen mango would work second best, just be sure to thaw it first. Next could try pineapple but you would want to add something like sundried tomatoes to create the same thickness. Bananas could work too but may taste a little funny in sushi. Let me know how it goes!

      Oh, wow, thanks so much for replying! I saw this, then saw your interview with Gillian Berry. Enjoying your talks and when I realized that nori may not be the best thing to eat (unfortunately, since I live in Japan) I wanted to try your alternative! Ok, will try to remember to get back to you after attempting to make this! Thanks again.

      More than my pleasure. I went for a long time without nori but then found some quality raw vegan organic nori that is routinely tested, rawnori.com. Can even get 5% off with my code “chrik5”. I also get dulse from seaveg.com they test even more and are great. I see value in sea veg, as long as it’s quality and free from heavy metals and radiation 🙌🏼

      I love nori and it certainly is sad that I would get mine from outside of Japan but Japan just does not have the options available in the States. It usually proves prohibitively expensive though, but I'll look into it. And thanks for the code!

      Likely in between the cracks in the sidewalks, not that it is the best spot... also in parks or gardens, it’s a weed. Rare to find it in stores, make sure 1000% that you know what it is before picking and trying

      It actually has turned into a series, the amount of recipes grew and grew and then my computer crashed and I lost them all and had to start from scratch. “TRA Retreat Treats”, “American Classics” and my free “Cravings Busters Classics” in my app are made up of some. I am now deciding the framework as I currently have it divided into 4 books, the first complete minus the pictures and formatting, but... I am thinking of changing it into different cuisines rather than types of dishes as it currently is. So yes some are out and more are coming :) 🙏🏼

    Hilarious intro! :D Hmmm, how vegan can a person be. I'm still gonna eat nori. At least no B12 issues to worry about! Haha! Thinking this way one would have to stop eating plants, because in the process of growing them little creatures in the soil die as well. Chris, so do you no longer eat nori anymore?

    • @TheRawAdvantage
      @TheRawAdvantage  10 років тому

      One thing about nori and other seaweeds is that they contain b12 anolougs, so they actually hinder b12 absorption.. Really for me I always felt a little off after eating nori, so while I wont say "never ever again", I have no plans to eat it and have passed the last few times offered. To me the point that tiny sea creatures are actually ground into the nori sheets makes it a different story compared to growing food in soil and eating that food without the critters. :)

    • @bananalifestylewithandrea2906
      @bananalifestylewithandrea2906 10 років тому +1

      I know that about b12. I totally get you. I have not yet looked into the process of making nori, so I don't know yet how big or microb the creatures in nori actually are. If they compare with bacteria, then I would not mind. I'll look into that. When growing plants the soil also gets worked on with tools, which definitely also kills worms, insects, etc.. And though we don't eat those they still get killed. Pesticides also kill tons of creatures, small ones, snails, porcupines, birds, ... Technically conventional veggies are not vegan either. BUT I just wanna share my thoughts here, not battle over right or wrong. I'm sure you feel the same way. For me, as for others, making the best choices possible is the way to go. :)

    So insects and bugs dont get caught up in produce? How is the nori debate any different? Tiny sea life has more value then tiny Insects that get caught in apples and lettuce and dates, and many other produce

    • @TheRawAdvantage
      @TheRawAdvantage  5 років тому +2

      Indeed they do but you can remove them whereas the nori they are blended in. There is also the potential for heavy metal / radio active contamination. To me it’s more about those aspects, and wanted to share, it’s very near impossible to avoid all harm but we can choose what we ingest. 🙏🏼
