280k figure means only the active reserve troops, however military trained personel we have approximately 900.000 men and women ready to go if full scale war would break out.

The reserve does not get money. And is obliged to participate in occasional refresher exercises if called upon. You only get money during the army and a fairly small amount. But the government pays for all the expenses while in the army, like food and rent, so you don't really even need money at that time.

More accurately, no money for being in reserve, but the periods in exercises are compensated because you're not at work.

Conscripts get nominal daily allowance depending on days they have served: 5,90 euros (1-165 days), 9,80 euro (166-255 days) and 13,65 euros (256-347 days). Military also pays their traveling expenses and of course food, health care, clothing and rent is free. Other money worth possibilities include E.g. possibility to get driver's license for free, which in Finland is quite expensive: "Sotilaskuljettajaksi?". One way to keep the costs low is to use voice effects instead of real ammo: "1.PionK kaipr sinko tst-pari". During the exercises reservists get 66,82-73,50 euros per day depending on their rank.

And if you have a rental appartment before you step into the service, the state will cover your rent, so that you'll still have your home for holidays and when the service is over. Plus if you already have children while serving, you'll get extra money to provide for them.

Yah. A cook here. I know how to survive in the forest for long periods a time, shoot a assault rifle, bazooka, set up explosives and mines and hide in the forest so that no enemy knows where I am. And I know how to make damn good meatballs.

YT removed my comment which consisted of several paragraphs from a Reuters article detailing that Finland is aiding the state that begins with the letter "I" that's committing a Jenno cyde. They have no moral high ground. None.

      Who? Finland, Reuters or UA-cam?
...I'm guessing you're referring to first one. And on that I can only say that I'd love a long discussion.

The the sticker price of conscription is laughably low, but there's a hidden cost. That's delaying young men's productive work career for up to a year. There's no good way for accounting for it, but that doesn't mean it's nonexistent. Going to reserve refreshers begins with receiving a registered letter with the sword wielding lion in a castellated tower, any workplace has to respect the call and pay full salary for up to two weeks. Refreshers aren't nice, you'll have to sleep on an army elephant f***ed mattress which you'd have tolerated as a 20 year old, listening 20 years older geezers snoring like an earthquake. In the start you're the junior and with the most recent education you'll have to teach the seniors in the most modern ways of doing the things. What the 40 something people who are pissed off and unwilling to learn anything are doing, and who's responsible, yep you.

That war that America lost, Vietnam, ANZAC’s (Australia New Zealand Army Corp) never lost a single battle. And we are famous for the Battle of Long Tan. We have amazing SAS soldiers and when our allies need help taking out a compound, they call us. We sneak in and take out everyone and hand it over to our allies. Finland has nothing on us lol
    The Battle of Long Tan:
In The Battle of Long Tan, late in the afternoon, for 3.5 hours in the pouring rain, amid the mud and shattered trees of a Rubber Plantation, 108 ANZAC's (Australia and New Zealand Forces) mostly inexperienced and young, held off a force of 2500 Vietcong Soldiers. When the ANZAC's ammo ran out, they called air strikes on their own position to take out the enemy and risked getting taken out by their own Air Strikes. In this battle, 18 ANZAC's were killed and a further 24 were wounded. At least 245 Vietcong were confirmed to be killed in this battle and an estimated 350 were wounded although it is thought that a lot more Vietcong were killed and the bodies were taken away in the dark of night. Vietcong tried to claim this as a victory and tried to claim that they killed 500 ANZAC's. That was later confirmed to be a lie.

1939 Stalin invaded Finland ( 3.6 million inhabitants without allies at the start of the war vs. 146 million Soviets) for years the soviet sent waves of meat one after the other against Finland, finally the soviet losses against Finland were as big as the USA's losses in the entire WWII, but even that was not enough, Finland had to agree to peace and lost territories.
At the time of D-day, the Soviet Union had as many troops against Finland as the Allies had in Normandy, on one day the Soviet Union fired 300,000 artillery shells into Finland etc.
